The Media's Reluctant Coverage Of Barack Obama

I'm tired of all the Obama supporters getting their underwear in a twist when the media does them dirty. You know what? The likes of MSNBC, CNN, and other outlets been doing Hillary Clinton dirty since the Iowa caucus. So go cry a river of bitterness somewhere else. The Dailykos, say.

It's a crime. An absolute crime that the media operates which such reluctant coverage of Barack Obama. I don't know if they're afraid of the blow back from his supporters or if they're rooting for him and intentionally overlook important issues about him. What I do know is that no one should be crying over Barack's debate performance because you all know that whenever Tim Russert and his MSNBC knock around guys put the pool sticks to Hillary's legs in those debates the media looked the other way like the guy standing outside the store while his buddies burglarized it.

Bill Clinton could fart and it would be front page news, yet Michele Obama saying "America in 2008 is a down right mean country" wouldn't even make the back page of the Providence Times. So don't play this blame game because ABC decided to do it's job. Both candidates faced the fire and Obama got burned. Hillary didn't, end of story. If Hillary Clinton had been associated with Jeremiah Wright for the past 20 years the media would persecute her to high noon. Yet with Barack Obama it's just guilt by association. I'm growing weary of the media drubbing this election in favor of Barack Obama and his supporters. You don't want to upset them but if the truth upsets people then oh well.

Ya'll know I'm right here. This is the most corrupt and troubling display by the media and the Obama campaign. It's an absolute shame the media wants to turn it around on us Hillary supporters like we're so wrong because we were glad to see Obama finally, well attempt accountability for his words and his associations. He's friendly with a known terrorist. Why isn't that on the front pages? I would assume that a friendly relationship with a radical is much more important than someone lieing about a trip 15 years ago. But hey thats just me. The Obama campaign admitted the friendship. When asked the campaign responded "Yes. He and Senator Obama have a friendly relationship"

It's better for him to get this out now so right-wing mouthpieces like Sean Hannity can't use these shady dealings and misstatements as GOP talking points. So wise up Obama. If anything Charlie Gibson George Stephenoupolus did you a favor.

Re: The Media's Reluctant Coverage Of Barack Obama (2.00 / 2)

It is unfortunate because the longer we take to vet out Dem candidates, the more at risk we are of the right-wing media creating a too-late firestorm over some 60's association. I've been in the Army, they are still fighting Vietnam.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/17/us/pol itics/17truth.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

I was originally kicked off of myDD for peeping this story about Obama back when he declared. FU Matt Stoller. The problem with this Ayers thread for Obama is this will eventually lead to Ayers link to FALN operatives who are STILL under investigation by the FBI.

Obama (and Hillary's link) to Weather Underground figures is

Just remember, 68% percent of NPR listeners are registered, conservative Republicans and poll after poll shows conservatives read more than Republicans.

Because most progressives are esentially complacent Whole Foods shoppers, they do not diligently read the right wing media to find out what stories the be cooking up about the Dems.

This Ayers story is going to lead to Obama's assocations to FALN folks in Chicago.

I got e-mails all day from friends about Ayers saying, 'see you told us so.'

You can get angry you stupid Obama people but I'm going to laugh when he gets the nomination then gets trashed so bad by the right wing McCain wins the election.

Obama has more than closets of stuff for them, he has a whole warehouse. I'm from the South Side, Mark my words. Don't vote for him. It is dangerous.

Unless, of course, he finally comes clean on everything so WE as DEMS know how to respond.

I will vote for Barack, I will vote for Hillary, I will vote for Obaminton or Clintobama, how about you? Thanks to AnyDem for the signature.

Hey do you still think Michelle Obama has won PA for Obama after the debate last night ?

I remember I told you this debate would be more important than a colbert report appearance.

I am just curious not trying to call you out .

Re: The Media's Reluctant Coverage Of Barack Obama (2.00 / 1)

Well, okay, us Obama supporters will give ABC a pass if you'll agree they get a pass for Bosnia and can bring it up at will.

This isn't about coverage, (2.00 / 0)

you right wing asshat.

It's not about hard questions. It's not about "ganging up" on a candidate.

It's about trivial, trite, meaningless, smarmy foci that distract from the real issues and undermine the Democratic brand.

Now go back to the freeper rock you crawled out from under.

Re: This isn't about coverage, (2.00 / 1)

So when Obama's on the receiving end it's a pile on? When it's Hillary she deserves it? That's essentially what Obama and his supporters think. I don't think you feel any different. Am I wrong?

Did you even read what I said? (none / 0)

"Rhetoricus, please defend everything any random supposed Obama supporter has said in the blogosphere." Did you get your question from ABC?

I actually think there's nothing wrong with a pile-on of the frontrunner, if it has to do with the issues. It's fairly expected. Hillary handled it fine when she was the front runner.

What I do mind is when an entire debate is shaped by cheap, trivial, substanceless swiftboating right wing talking points that have already been overworked in the media and that actually keep the voters from learning about the candidates' stances on issues.

It damages the Democratic brand, whoever this is done to. The fact that Hillary has been gleefully participating in these lines of attack doesn't really hurt Obama, but it does show how willing SHE is to damage the Democratic brand.

Re: The Media's Reluctant Coverage Of Barack Obama (2.00 / 1)

Does it take someone from outside, namely this diarist, to point this out to Obama supporters?  Apparently.  The media has been doing this to Hillary from day one of this campgaign.  No, I take that back.  Since she first appeared on the national stage in 1991.

How's it feel, guys?  This is what unfair, immaterial, baseless media trashing feels like.  Get used to it.

Barack and Ayers serve(d) on a frickin' charity
board together for chrissakes.

Now this Ayers
person is a professor at the University of
Illinois.

Are you saying Barack should be responsible for the actions of a person during the civil rights era 40 years ago when Barack was in elementary school?

AND THIS ON HIS LIES
Obama Shaken, Rattled, and Rolled
if he still harbors any hopes of driving Hillary Clinton from the Democratic race by scoring an upset victory in Pennsylvania, he might be wise to get real. It's hard to imagine that he won over the working-class, culturally-conservative Democrats who constitute the swing vote; if anything, his performance during the first 45 minutes of the debate may well have cemented their suspicions.

Obama's devotees will no doubt complain today that the ABC News inquisitors were grossly unfair, that they focused their fire on Obama while leaving Hillary Clinton relatively unscathed, and that they asked too many dirtball questions at Obama's expense. (George Stephanopoulos to Obama: "Do you think Rev. Wright loves America as much as you do?") Whatever. Whining about the media is the last resort of losers. The bottom line is that Obama didn't successfully adapt to the environment.

Riiight (none / 0)

The MSM is so very "reluctant" to cover negative stories on Obama.

After all, it took them about a millisecond to engage on the oh-so-important "bittergate" issue, devoting hours and hours of Obama-is-doomed punditry to the question.

And the Wright controversy -- that was hardly mentioned at all in the media!

As for Hillary Clinton, how long did the big-time media wait before reporting on her Bosnia "misstatements"?  No "reluctance" there.....

And how long will it take (if ever) before the big-time networks report at all, much less give wall to wall coverage, regarding Hillary's "Screw 'em" comment about poor southern white voters?  (A comment confirmed, by the way, not only by the author of a book but by a current Hillary supporter and donor who was in the room.)  Your guess is as good as mine, but given the extensive "bittergate" coverage, it sure seems relevant.  I'm waiting for their "reluctance" to lift, but every minute, hour and day that passes is one that they didn't wait to pounce on the "bittergate" story.

Look, it is true that the media sometimes ignores things like Ayers for a period of time.  It also sometimes ignores things like the Bosnia "misstatements," or the devastating "Screw 'em" comment by Hillary.

It's not about protecting Obama -- look at Wright and "bittergate," for crying out loud!  Sometimes hard-hitting stories come out with blazing speed -- for both candidates.  Sometimes they are delayed -- for both candidates.  Get some perspective.
