Arlen Specter's Cancer Returns

Sen. Arlen Specter has just announced that his cancer, an advanced form of Hodgkin's lymphoma, has returned.

I think I speak for all of myDD when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with him.

He's always been one of my favourite senators, even though he's batting for the wrong team.

Get well soon, Arlen.

Arlen is a good respectable republican. With his health and age I wonder if he'll step down from the senate before 2010 though.

Isn't Chris Matthews angling for the Dem nomination for that seat?

Tweety will run in 2010, he practically announced on the Colbert Report.

Re: Arlen Specter's Cancer Returns (none / 0)

Yeah he is running I think. If Specter does retire due his health and age I think Tweety would more or less have the state locked down, if only because Ed Rendell is very close to Matthews and would ensure Tweety has no competition in the primary.

Please, no (none / 0)

Not Tweety.

Re: Please, no (none / 0)

Not really a choice. If PA 2010 is an open election then Tweety will 100% run and due to the Rendell machine will have the primary handed to him.

To be fair Matthews DOES have a political background  working for Carter and Tip O'Neil.

I believe Allyson Schwartz and Dan Onorato, among others, might dispute your analysis.

I will never tolerate (none / 0)

that hateful Clinton-slandering mean spirited a-hole Chris Matthews. He is part of the problem, and he helped George W. Bush get elected in 2000 by endorsing him, not to mention slandering Al Gore. I bet its part of the Jimmy Carter jealousy complex. I will not have that in my Senate. If he runs, I will give money to his opponent.

Re: Arlen Specter's Cancer Returns (none / 0)

Chris seems far too honest to be a politician. He often just blurts out what's on his mind without really thinking it through.

I'd imagine his campaign would have several "macaca" moments.

Still...I'd love to hear his trademark "HA!" echoing through the congress during a state of the union address.

That's a real shame.  He's beaten cancer twice already.

Get well Senator Specter (2.00 / 1)

You can beat this!!!

Not good (none / 0)

I'm not a doctor, but it seems that when cancer returns like this, it is a lot more aggressive and usually terminal. If that is the case, I wish him a swift and painless passing.

It was caught earlier than (none / 0)

was the case the last time.

He worked throughout his chemo (2.00 / 1)

and showed a lot of courage.  I wish him and his family the best as he moves through this next challenge.

Re: Arlen Specter's Cancer Returns (2.00 / 1)

That is a shame.  I have seen him on alot of shows lately talking about his book "Never Give In" in which he talks about his battle with cancer.  Hopefully he can get through it again.

Re: Arlen Specter's Cancer Returns (2.00 / 1)

This is shocking news to me. I just watched him this morning on C-SPAN-he was optimistic and positive. Even though I'm a Dem, I really like him. I hope it turns out good.

I hope he and his family some peace and I (none / 0)

send them a prayer.

Re: Arlen Specter's Cancer Returns (none / 0)

I hope he retires so Rendell can appoint a Democrat, but then gets completely better and lives his life out well. He isn't that bad a guy, so he doesn't deserve misery.
