Mad as Hell Protest today at Today - With Pic

Wish I could have made it.  Here is the report from HillaryClintonForum.net

We had about 150 people there. Some got there at 6:30a.m.

Women, men, people of all color. People drove from Philly. Woman took the night bus down
from Boston. People from Texas, some foreigners, the NC contingent and two lovely African
Americans who made the trip in from Connecticut. Eyedoc, front and center. Les33 with the
Bullhorn!!! Freethinker and Murray were interviewed by O'Reilly's producer. The papers were
there taking lots of pics. Hillary speaks for me was there interviewing as well.

Everyone was so thrilled to be there and so enthusiastic. Yelled all during the Today show.
Lots of police to keep us away and then they wouldn't let us use the bullhorn b/c Today show
was still going on. Funny how they moved their stuff way down to the other end and kept the
Singers on well past the TV time. Trying to shut us up I think.

Are you kidding???  I was there...it was the SMALLEST demonstration I have ever seen!  A bunch of Hillary signs, a few Obama-Rezko ones (??) and the blast NBC, MSNBC blurbs.  No one was even paying attention to this little group corralled into a fenced in area.  Totally drowned out by Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera.

Or, maybe I was in the wrong place???

Well if they attacked Obama at the rally then that won't have been fair.

I haven't heard that at all .

I am not really a fan of such protest but I don't fault citizens who are activists for a cause.

And MSNBC is the poster child for what is wrong with the media coverage of this election.

A few of us on this blog had been complaining about that channel since about April last year before anyone was really paying attention , I remember raising hell for the ambush by Russert at the philly debate , some obama supporters were arguing that there was nothing there , but looking back now I don't know how many would disagree now .

Russert is a godawful debate moderator. What you see on display with him isn't a bias against this candidate or that, it is showboating. He has a big ego as a Serious Political Journalist Who Hosts MEET THE PRESS. As such, he's always casting about for that question, that moment, that will be replayed and analyzed for weeks on end and etch itself into the minds of his peers: "Ah, that Russert, he sure got a zinger in!" It doesn't matter who the target is -- provided they are newsworthy otherwise what's the point? That's all fine and well when Russert is in the his role as Serious Political Journalist Who Hosts MEET THE PRESS but is a complete failure in other formats like a debate. What Russert and most of these clowns fail to realize is that a debate isn't about the moderator. That's why it feels like they are constantly and inappropriately injecting themselves into the discourse.

From the pictures, I only saw one person that had a "Problematic White Woman" sign.  To be fair, you can't discredit the entire protest because one bad apple wanted to take a dig at Obama.

I'd saint she was a golden apple.  What Obama said was highly offensive.  What do you think you all would say if Hillary described someone as a typical black person.  What is worse, he was throwing his grandmother under the bus and comparing her to a man who blames whitey for AIDS.

I thought msnbc was part of the media but what do I know   anyway ... I agree Chris Matthews and Keith O are anti Hillary/pro obama  but to say the whole media is Biased against Hillary because she is a woman is a stretch overall I think  its fair its just that one candidate has more bad news that is reported on ? I mean do you really think playing the rev wright clip all day for an entire news cycle is the media's way of telling Obama he is their guy ?  IMO I think that actually made more of a buzz in the MSM than the Tuzla flap if it were Bias you would never had seen the wright sermon clips

I think you are wrong to compare apples with oranges. Tuzla vs. Wright? I don't think so. The media made a huge deal about Hillary's misstatement. Gave it far more play than it deserved. Mr. BO has made numerous misstatments that are virtually ignored. BO's Rev. Wright affiliation is a very serious matter. It should be mentioned daily. There is more coming to light about this affiliation, and it is ignored by the MSM. You're right. There's no comparison. Wright was something his Rev. said years ago. Tuzla was NOT a "misstatement" it was a LIE told recently. If anything the Wright story got more airplay than it deserved.

Why can't Clinton supporters grasp the basic difference between a mistake and a lie? Or the difference between what someone other than the candidate said years ago, and something the candidate herself said weeks ago?

meaningful without the nonsense about Dean, Michigan and Florida, frankly. I strongly believe that Democrats need to speak out about unfavorable media narratives - that's absolutely key, in fact.

But the lumping together of various subjects tied together only by the fact that they present a grievance to some Hillary supporters dilutes the impact of this. Perhaps that's why only 150 people showed up in Midtown Manhattan, Hillary's home base.

And of course, this only got picked up by Fox Noise AFAIK, and we all know how deeply they care about Democratic and Progressive agendas.

And before folks go all ballistic, a friend of mine went to this protest.

I'm from NYC.  I've demonstrated in NY many times, for many causes.  This seemed too small a number for any demonstration.  I've been following the threads on this on MyDD for the last week and wondering how many people would go; it seemed there was quite a bit of enthusiasm for it.  I was surprised.  It is a good thing to be demonstrating for and I'm not sure why it wasn't larger.  Obviously something was lacking in how the word was spread.

Was a feeble attempt at humor I guess.  It feels like silly season to me today, politically.  Like when you are at the end of a big project and have been working overnight for  a few days, and everything suddenly just seems funny and out of whack.  It was not meant to be catty.  This all has been going on for sooooo long and sometimes, with the serious stuff happening in one's own life, it just has a Gilbert and Sullivan feel to it.  I did not mean to offend.  If I did I apologize.

I'm sorry, I thought you were responding to my post below, which WAS a stupid attempt at humor.  No, as I said I am from the city and was just surprised at the small number of people given the support for this on this web site.  I think we NYers and former NYers forget there is a whole country out there and this is not simply going to our city.  Still, media protests like this are good and I would have expected more.  I am an Obama supporter but that does not mean I think the media is does not need to be called out when they act and speak irresponsibly.

150 from a city of millions is pretty underwhelming, especially if some of these folks were bussed in.

Last summer a bunch of us got over 200 people on the lawn of the county courthouse at 9 a.m. to protest the siting of a factory hog farm.  This was in a conservative town of about 4,000 people.

And by the way, the Clinton campaigns decision to appoint Joy Philipi, former president of the National Pork Producers Council - one of the most corrupt industrial agriculture lobbying organizations, as chair of her rural campaign, was one reason this family farmer throw his support to Edwards, and now Obama.

It was a protest about bias. Olberman has been sexist and no evidence would persuade you so why should anyone waste their time? But the protest is about bias too and he has certainly been that.
Olberman is the biggest disappointment because we expect more of him.

Yes... he has had very strong opinions about Hillary and her tactics in the last month.  To his credit, his bias has been overt.  He has made no attempt to disguise his strong opinions regarding Hillary, or Bush for that matter.  What's wrong with that? Is he not allowed his views?  

As for sexism, your unwillingness to provide a single example probably means what I think it does: Olbermann is sexist because you say he is and therefore that somehow makes it true.

Like if someone said that Chelsea was campaigning for her mother, going here, talking to this group.  She's quite the little campaigner.  It just seems that the Clintons are pimping her out.

Oh come on.  Given that all the people invested in this protest (which makes a perfectly valid point) have jobs, no one telecomutes, works evenings, can take a few hours off, and so on and so on?  Is really time for this silliness of which candidates supporters are the most down to earth, whose supporters are employed, whose are just lazy n'er-do-wells, etc., to go away, although maybe we could get the polls to be a more amusing read if they broke it down to the n'er-do-well vote, the industrious citizen vote, the latte slacker vote and so on.

   You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
    And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

It is bigoted shallow patronizing, insulting and just plain dumb.  Seems to me Obama just doesn't like white people unless they are elitists who fall all over him.  
This is not going to play well when I spread it all over every PA blog I can find plus send it to hundreds of PA residents on my email list.

Yeah, all of us who don't live in Philly cling to our guns and religion and are racists.  Is there no end of ways this guy can play the race card?

Just got the full quote. He's saying the opposite of what the race-baiting comment from Teresa suggests. He's saying they *aren't* racist in PA. Here's the context, sans McCain and Clinton propaganda talking points. This "disenfranchisement" nonsense has got to stop.

When someone says FL & MI were "disenfranchised", I just can't take anything from that person seriously after that.  The claim is contemptible.  It's an effort to change the rules, after those rules were agreed to months in advance, and to count votes in a bogus election in which one of the candidates wasn't even listed on the ballot.

Do supporters of the "disenfranchised" meme also try to move pawns sideways in chess, then claim discrimination when their opponent calls foul?

I liked Hillary before this.  She was never my first choice, but six months ago I'd have been happy to have her as president.  But I have no respect whatsoever who tries to change the rules after the fact.

The presence of one of those D-word fools in the photos renders the protest completely ineffective, in my opinion.

They will not count because Obama will control the convention rules committee. They will be seated,  but they will not make a difference in the outcome.

And Obama didn't stop the re-vote. Clinton doesn't want a re-vote since having FL and MI "undecided" is the only thing she can argue to the SD's. Team Clinton put forth such a ridiculous proposal for re-voting Michigan that it sank any chance of compromise. I would think that counting FL would be fair as long as there was a real re-vote in Michigan, not some charade open only to those that voted before. Clinton has been posturing regarding FL and MI.

In my world, integrity is more important than voters.

Hillary didn't have a problem with those rules in January; but now, when they're the only way to keep her campaign alive, she suddenly has concern for people who voted in a sham election being "disenfranchised".

I don't like what happened to Michigan and Florida.  I'm no fan of a system that was designed to give New Hampshire and Iowa disproportionate influence - but it's what the candidates all agreed to.  Going back on one's word is a far more grievous error than refusing to treat a bogus election as if it was real, even if the feelings of those who "voted" are hurt.

Anyone?  Anyone?  Can anyone explain why before Iowa Hillary was content with DNC rules regarding MI and FL, and only started talking 'disenfranchisement' around the NV caucus?  Can anyone explain why Hillary was OK with the campaign being over by Feb. 5, but not tells Indiana that she thinks their votes should count?  Why the new religion? Is it a newfound love of democracy or is it changing the rules of the game when you're losing?  Who can explain the contradiction between her quotes before Jan and after?  Linc?  Alegre? Teresa? Thank you from those of us who could not be there. It feels so weird to hear Democrats be dismissive of a protest because there was not thousands of people. Regardless of the cause sometimes one person can make a difference. As an AA female Rosa Parks came to mind when she refused to give up her seat.
