Clinton challenges Obama to a " Bowl Off "

Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton walked somberly into a press conference Tuesday and stood before microphones. Reporters tensed, sensing something big might be afoot.

"This has been a very hard fought race," she said. "We clearly need to do something so that our party and our people can make the right decision. So, I have a proposal."

The tension grew. Reporters shifted in their seats. Was she dropping out of the race? Offering to join rival Barack Obama as his running mate?

April Fools!

"Today, I am challenging Senator Obama to a bowl-off," Clinton said, provoking relieved laughs from the assembled scribes.

Clinton carried on, making reference to Obama's disastrous outing at a Pennsylvania bowling alley Saturday.

"A bowling night. Right here in Pennsylvania. The winner take all," she went on. "I'll even spot him two frames."

"It is time for his campaign to get out of the gutter and allow all the pins to be counted. I'm prepared to play this game all the way to the tenth frame. When this game is over, the American people will know that when that phone rings at 3 a.m., they'll have a president ready to bowl on day one."

"Let's strike a deal and go bowling for delegates. We don't have a moment to spare, because it's already April Fool's Day. Happy April Fool's Day."

I would actually like to see that , I know Obama would have his butt handed to him .

Come on people who bowls a 37 in the lane on all 10 frames .

Even my kid sister who is 8 ran up the score to 70 on her first day .

Thats surely not what you want to do in Altoona , PA on a Saturday , lol.

However we shall give him a pass if he takes up Clinton's challenge .

If not for the sake of party unity , at least to reedeem himself.

Come on Barack you can't bowl a 37 on the lane on all 10 frames and walk away .

Anyone else care to share bowling experiences.

" Bowl Off " (none / 0)

Funny.  I'm a crappy bowler - I usually score between 40 and 80.

No, but his bowling score from yesterday is.

Lori, he'll agree to the bowling challenge, but only if she'll accept a basketball challenge.

And if they end up splitting the two sports, the tie-breaker will be dog-sled racing. That should even the playing field.

Oh, didn't realize that. Nonetheless, I'd be happy with a game of 1-on-1 hoops for the nomination.

Re: Clinton challenges Obama to a " (2.00 / 2)

i bet i can kick his butt in a 1 on 1 pick up game , i was on the basketball team in high school and i still play it occassionally .

i am eagerly waiting for the playoffs and for the spurs to kick ass.

obama's form was good but he has to work on his swing to bowl more than a 37

Well, I'm a Heat fan, so I'm waiting for 2011 for them to kick ass.

And Obama's a lefty. It's well-known that we lefties have a difficult time bowling.

That's my excuse, anyway.

37 is horrible (2.00 / 2)

and you're right, his form did look good (from the pictures I saw). Tough to roll a 37 if you're older than 5. And yes I am an Obama supporter.

Anyway, good job by HRC today on the ribbing about the bowling. It was good natured and we could use a whole bunch more of that. And really an excellent way to mend the fences would be a bowling match after this is over. Couple beers a couple frames before Denver.

With regards to your basketball prowess - I think your best shot against Obama would be to work the perimeter. Seems to me like he is pretty tall and lanky and would give most people problems in the paint. Then again he is 46 - so maybe you could tire him out and then dominate.

Re: Clinton challenges Obama to a " (none / 0)

Here's what the Hotline reported:

NBC/NJ's Athena Jones reports that Hillary Clinton began her Philly presser a few moments ago by challenging Barack Obama to a winner-take-all bowl off.

She told reporters that this has been a hard-fought race and that something must to be done. She said, however, that the Obama campaign needed to "get out of the gutter and allow all the pins to be counted."

"We don't have a moment to spare, because it's already April Fool's Day," she said.

I don't know if that was made up or not, but it's pretty funny.

Re: Clinton challenges Obama to a " (none / 0)

Here's more, from Halperin:

She continues, to guffaws from the press:

"It's time for his campaign to get out of the gutter. For all the pins to be counted... And when this game is over the American people will know they'll have a president who's ready to bowl on day one."

That is really funny.

Bradley's system for deciding (2.00 / 2)

When Bill Bradley was asked how the Dem nomination should be decided he offered that Gore and Bradley should shoot baskets from the top of the key for the right to be the Dem nominee.

This is funny! If this isn't real, she should certainly say something like this.

... and now it has me wondering, what sporting event would be the best way to choose the Leader of the Free World?

Personally I'm going for Curling. ;)

Golf (2.00 / 2)

No real intrinsic advantage based on size or age. But a real course could be unbelievably tough on neophytes to the sport - so perhaps a chip-and-putt one would be best.

Speaking of golf - man I love this time of year. Nothing gets me psyched for Spring (I'm in the northeast) more than watching Amen-Corner on Sunday afternoon at the Masters.

37!?

Ive been bowling at the WH.(long ago when the grown ups were out of town )  Its a bitchin 2 lane setup...we turned off all the lights , except those where the pins were and had one hell of a time!

Maybe when he is Hillary's VP, she will let him practice up...

37!? - 7 frames (none / 0)

Obama only bowled 7 frames and guttered the first few. He did end up with a spare so he was catching on.

This would be hysterical to watch - more entertaining then another debate!!!  I hope someone in PA takes her up on this....

Wouldn't it be funny if the 60 yr old woman beat the 47 yr old guy at this???

She should play for a winner-takes-all delegate race!!

Obama's Bowling Solution (none / 0)

Obama needs one of those beginner lanes where the gutters are blocked by railings...that would raise his score to at least the 60's
