First donation ever

This is my first diary ever. I've been reading the likes of dailykos, mydd and etc for the last few years but I never reached a point at which I felt I had to write something. I have never made a donation to a political campaign in my entire life. This is despite my being involved in politics, especially in Europe where I am from, for at least 25 years. To avoid misinterpretations, let me say that I am a permanent resident and I will be voting in 2012. So, today I started donating to the Obama campaign. My donation was $10. Although, I could afford donating more I decided against it. Instead, I decided that I will be donating $10 every single day until this nomination is determined (hopefully, when Obama becomes the party's nominee). So, one might ask why today and why this type of decision?

Today, because Hillary Clinton crossed a line yesterday. She stated that John McCain would bring a lifetime of experience to the White House and also that John McCain crossed the commander-in-chief threshold . This is the John McCain that enthousiastically voted for the Iraq war and doesn't mind staying there for whatever (you pick) number of years. I do not care that Hillary Clinton's plan is - whether she wants to win the primary at any cost or to damage Obama enough so that McCain wins and she can run again in 2012. I do not care. These statements are just inexcusable.

I chose this type of arrangement so that I will stay involved till the end. Until Barack Obama wins the nomination and then goes on to become the president of the United States. Barack Obama will unite the country and, more importantly, will decisively stop the short-sighted stupid cowboy-style US foreign policy that will make America safer and more respected around the world.

PEACE.

These statements are just inexcusable.
I couldn't agree more. Very disappointing for me.

Re: First donation ever (none / 0)

Peace, because Obama has trashed the most successful president in my lifetime, trashed democratic principles, and because Hillary has fought the right wing on our behalf for 15 years and brings real solutions to our problems - I support Hillary Rodham Clinton for President.

Re: First donation ever (none / 0)

By what metric was Bill Clinton massively succuessful, I mean I liked the guy a lot (and the economy was great), but looking back not much substantive was accomplished, and the real story of his presidency appears to be a lot center-right things (Welfare Reform, DOMA, Don't Ask-Don't tell).

Re: First donation ever (none / 0)

I recall a presidency during which the progressive community was constantly disappointed by the triangulating, DLC style centrist and small bore policies.

Re: First donation ever (none / 0)

Well stated and thank you.

Let me add that John McCain is not the only candidate in this race who voted enthusiastically for the Iraq war.

Re: First donation ever (none / 0)

Good For You!

While I am on the other side, this is the first presidential election that I have donated in, too.  Even though I really can't afford it, between $10 here and $25 there, I have given a total of $100, with another $100 from others through my HillRaiser's account.

It is important that everyone participate in anyway they can.

This has been an amazing cycle because of it...

Re: First donation ever (none / 0)

I like you're thinking. I just donated $50 to Obama.

Do you only (2.00 / 1)

see what you want?

She NEVER endorsed mccain, his positions, his ideas, or anything.

She is simply stating the contrast that she has with Obama on experience and that rove and mccain will use the experience thing on Obama.

Stop twisting the truth.

Re: Do you only (none / 0)

You are twisting it right now. Look up the quotes again, maybe?

Do you agree with this statement (none / 0)

A man who sings "bombs Iran", and says troop can stay in Iraq for a hundred years is fit to be Commander in Chief.
If you say "yes", then you are a McCain surrogate.
Hillary think McCain is fit to be Commander in Chief.
I don't, and I will consider Clinton my enemy until she denounces her supportive comments of McCain.

Re: Do you agree with this statement (none / 0)

Once again...

She did NOT support or endorse mccain. You are twisting words.

The fact IS that mccain and rove WILL push his creds, no matter if we think they are legit, wrong, stupid or whatever. It will happen. This is what Hillary is pointing out.

Re: Do you only (none / 0)

You don't contrast yourself against the other Democrat by complimenting the Republican.

If she had said, "I think I'm ready to be CIC. I don't think he's made that case, and you can be sure McCain will ask him that."

I would have no problem.

But you don't say "McCain is ready to be CIC", because it glosses over the fact that McCain wants to be Bush's third term - with all the war, and imbalanced tax cuts, and corporate welfare that entails. He's NOT ready to be CIC - not until he can articulate policies which are good for the country, including one that doesn't involve selling the whole country to pay for 100 years of war.

Glad to hear this (none / 0)

Because a donation for Clinton is an indirect donation for McCain.
Clinton is now a McCain surrogate, and the McCain supporters will never let the country forget that she endorsed him.
McCain, the man who sang about bombing Iran and said  troops could stay in Iraq for a hundred years, is unfit to be Commander in Chief, and he should be denounced by all Democrats.

Re: First donation ever (none / 0)

Thanks for being a donor. I kicked in $100 this morning.
