Hillary 'hearts' John McCain

Hillary Clinton has officially jumped the shark by declaring that only she and her good friend John McCain have crossed the Joe Leiberman threshold of valuing their own political careers over the country and their party...

Today Hillary declared: "I think that since we now know Sen. (John) McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. And I think it's imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold," the New York senator told reporters crowded into an infant's bedroom-sized hotel conference room in Washington.

"I believe that I've done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you'll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy," she said.

Calling McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee a good friend and a "distinguished man with a great history of service to our country," Clinton said, "Both of us will be on that stage having crossed that threshold. That is a critical criterion for the next Democratic nominee to deal with."

So the question is how long will the Democratic Leadership allow Hillary to trash her own party's chances at winning in November by making political love with the noble warrior "100 years of war" John McCain?  I can hardly wait for them to invite Joe in for a threesome...Must see TV.

Where was the grace in Susan Huannity's diary, using a terrorist attack to make a claim(without any substance, basis, or evidence) that Obama "isn't ready for prime time?"

After tonight, I may regain my usual temperance.  It's out the window tonight.  Sorry.  Thank Hillary and her most dubious of supporters.

It's smart politics... (none / 0)

We already have several diaries and a front page on this exact same issue. Here is a repost of my comment to Setrack's diary:

What she is trying to do is to get under Obama's skin, and get him to respond something along the lines of: "Oh yeah, I have to crossed the Commander In Chief Threshold." And see, he took the bait.

By binding herself to McCain a little at this stage, she is attempting to diminish Obama, since he's not part of the club. Let's see how he responds. Acting petulant is not going to work.

John McCain is the nominee. He is generally perceived as stong on national security, even though I personally think he is really scary. Tying her to the other nominee using national security is tantamount to ceding the issue. He should find a better way to deflect this one, but again he won't because he let her get under his skin. All of which gets back to the point of the attack. People with the CIC Theshold credential don't let their opponents get under their skin.

Which, come to think of it, is why it is ridiculous to think of John McCain as qualifying for anything more than dogcatcher, but again thats just rhetorical at this point. These won't be the issues in the general. There is just so much really substantive that seperates either Obama or Clinton from McCain. They won't be dancing around these kinds of nuanced attacks.

If she's too smart to let people get under her skin.. then what was going on when she said, "SHAME ON YOUR, BARACK OBAMA!  Meet me in Ohio!"?   I mean, really.. she flipped out over mail that was out since Super Tuesday.

I think the campaign and Sen. Obama have gotten under Sen. Clinton's skin more than once, on the trail and in debates.

By your own standard she is not "CIC material".

She likes McCain; that's not news (2.00 / 1)

Even Bill Clinton remarked earlier in the campaign about their mutual respect and even liking for each other.  And I can't blame her if she likes McCain more than Obama.  I feel the same way.

She's worked to shore up her national security credentials.  That is a good bit of what she devoted her time to in the Senate.  She can't match McCain but she can come much closer than Obama can.  Obama doesn't seem like he cared much for doing Senate business and learning about a substantive area.  To him it was just a stepping stone to a promotion.

You've denigrated HRC, and she denigrated Obama (none / 0)

Your comments at DKos about Hillary were real nasty many times (you got banned because of it, IIRC). That makes clear that you don't support her, unless you had some sort of epiphany since then. Then, why are acting like you support Hillary. It seems that you're driven by pure vengeance towards Obama and Obama supporters with comments like this (probably because Obama survived and Edwards decided to drop out; I never could figure out why he dropped out before 2/5, BTW). If you'd like to explain what's going on with you, I'm all ears.

Had Edwards been in Obama's place you know very well that HRC would be attacking him just as hard as she is attacking Obama, if not far worse (do you recall that National Inquirer that carried JRE affair stories is owned by a Clintonite, don't you). In fact, IIRC, you were theorizing that media spinning JRE haircuts stories had Clinton's hand in it. Didn't you?

Since Edwards dropped out, why not focus on some key issues (of interest to you) and post non-candidate diaries and commentary? That's my friendly suggestion.

This is what matters (2.00 / 2)

Supreme Court Justices.

3 or 4 will most likely be appointed in the next prez term.

Hillary is NOT a neo-con, not even close!

They are both more corporate friendly then I would like.

She did NOT say that she and mccain had the same experiences. She did NOT promote mccains experiences as a good thing. She is simply stating the facts and how they will be used.

Pretend it is a Clinton and mccain race. Who's experience would you rather have? It is not even a close call, it would be Hillary!

Right now BOTH campaigns are playing a little politics with their statements and words. This does not mean lies, just politics.

To ALL of you that say you will not vote, vote mcain or some other nonsense ... you are fools! I know that most of you (except the freeping repubs) want positive changes, liberal changes, progressive changes for this country and We The People.

So... think of my first words at the top. Supreme Court Justices! Do you know what this means?

Hillary as Joe Lieberman??? is this the new tac???

Everything Hillary said is 100% true, McCain will label Obama a terrorist loving coward who wants to cut and run and Obama won't know what to do except say "i opposed this war from the start"

That literally is Obama's only answer to every national security question. McCain will eat him alive. We need someone who knows their stuff, I for one am tired of having a President who picks up the phone and calls their VP asking what they should do

I can now see Hillary's slash and burn tactics very clearly.  You see, she now sees this primary as a "lose-win" situation.
