A Landslide of One

As of this writing, Clinton gained one delegate from last night but is still behind in the total delegate count.

After watching Hillary's speech last night, I found it remarkable that she portrayed it as a landslide night.

Four states, millions of votes and a she gained one delegate overall.

One.

Re: A Landslide of One (none / 0)

It was a landslide because she once again proved herself to be a better candidate to consolidate support from democratic base and possibly to win swing states.

It was a landslide because so many people voted in both Ohio and Texas and sent clear message that the game is not over.

It was a landslide because she won the states where Obama outspent her 4-1 and received favourable local and national coverage for almost 2 months!

Keep counting (pledged) delegates as long as you want. It will sound just like GWB right after his "victory" in 2000. Oh! For your information, it is also mathematically impossible for Obama to win the nomination because there is NO WAY he could win the magic number of delegates before the convention.

Re: A Landslide of One (none / 0)

That's the problem with our election process.  If a candidate can have more delegates by winning caucus states that Democrats have NO SHOT AT winning in the general election (Utah, Idaho, etc)- I would say there's a problem there.  Obama should hope that Florida and Michigan redo their elections, because he needs to win at least one of them to prove to Democrats that he can be competitive in a crucial swing state.  He has a delegate lead, but an electability problem.

Re: A Landslide of One (2.00 / 1)

Right, because Florida, Michigan and Ohio are the only states that will be in play this time around.

Look at 2004, look at how close the election was in Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Colorado.

Re: A Landslide of One (none / 0)

I am also somewhat concerned that our possible nominee will have overwhelmingly won states that will go red in Nov, and small turnout caucus states, while losing many important battleground states.  Are we setting ourselves up for failure?  Is anyone else concerned about the large number of republicans voting for Obama?  Do people really think that will continue in November? Does nobody else recognize that McCain is a very attractive choice for many of our base democrats, not just indys? If I hear Obama talk about that vote 1 more time, I'll scream.  Although it's quite a talking point for his base, and liberal bloggers, in real America they are over it. Why does Obama say we need to look to the future, not the past (except when he is talking about that vote - then it's perfectly fine to look to the past)?  If that is all he has on national security, it's not going to be enough. I am afraid that, once again, regardless of issues, the republican will win on a combination of national security votes and regular guy votes.

Don't dismiss states we're unlikely to win this time around. That's a guarantee we'll NEVER win them, it's the opposite of the 50-state strategy.

Re: A Landslide of One (none / 0)

First Read has her up to 26, likely to be cut to around 10 once TX is finished counting. You're right, though - still no landslide, especially given the expectations of two weeks ago.
