AP obtains Obama/NAFTA/Canada Memo

Of course the Obama people are denying it.  But then, they and their candidate aren't exactly known for rushing to take responsibility for anything.  

From the memo summarizing conversation with Goolsbee, which was circulated widely within the Canadian government:

"Noting anxiety among many U.S. domestic audiences about the U.S. economic outlook, Goolsbee candidly acknowledged the protectionist sentiment that has emerged, particularly in the Midwest, during the primary campaign. He cautioned that this messaging should not be taken out of context and should be viewed as more about political positioning than a clear articulation of policy plans."

Very, very, interesting.

So the official story has now gone from

"No such meeting ever happened"

to

"Well, they called me just to say hello"

to

"So we had a 40-minute discussion, and the Canadians wrote this 1300 word memo on it, but they're completely wrong. And furthermore, Goolsbee wasn't acting on behalf of our campaign. He was talking about Obama's point of view as a private citizen."

It also appears that Joesph DeMora, a consulate official, is the latest person to be unavailable for comment.

Whatever Goolsbee said, the Obama campaign does not appear to have handled this whole thing in the most forthright manner.

This proves absolutely nothing! If anything...this demonstrates the level of desperation by the Clinton campaign and its supporters.

Just admit your guy stepped in it and move on. It happens during the course of every campaign. High moments and low moments. It reminds us we are electing a president, not a saint. He'll take his well-deserved hits on this and get credit elsewhere.

It won't. One day to go. Obama will do great in Ohio and they will split the delegates pretty much 50-50.

This is basically a he-said, she-said. The guy wrote a memo in his own words, giving his own interpretations. His words are disputed and there is no way to prove who is being truthful (or simply misunderstood). It would gain traction only if there were a tape or someone else who reported remembering the same words spoken. This will go nowhere as the story is written now.

Plus, the Ohio election is tomorrow. No time for any damage to be done.  You're talking about the soon to be Democratic nominee so I suggest you let the Republicans trash our candidate and try to act like you want to win the GE.
