Al Wynn resigning from Congress! GOOD RIDDANCE

Rep. Albert Wynn, D-Md., whose backing of the war in Iraq led to his defeat in the primary, will announce his resignation from Congress this afternoon, Democratic Party sources said. Wynn, who lost in the primary to Donna Edwards, has scheduled an announcement for 2 p.m. He is expected to leave in June.

This is from nationaljournal.com. I do not have an exact link yet.

As far as I'm concerned, this was #1) a cowardly decision from the pro-corporate DINO Republican wannabe, since he's basically told his constituents that they don't deserve representation for the rest of the year.

But #2, it's good we don't have to deal with his crap anymore.

Kudos to that district in Maryland who elected Donna Edwards, and threw out this sore loser.

Sad day for the corporate anti-middle class lobbyists!!! BOOHOO!

HILLARY IN 08!

Actually (none / 0)

Sen Obama hasn't lost one yet, but he will in June, unless there is a special election before the convention.

Still it shows what kind of dem Wynn is, which is one that should be replaced by a better democrat, especially in this kind of district which is a solid D district.

Re: erm (none / 0)

I think that it depends on each state's rules.  Marylnad alread had their primary, so the special may not occur until November.

When will Pro-war Clinton resign from the Senate ? (1.00 / 6)

by LibDem on Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 02:42:31 PM EST

Senator Clinton has done good things in the Senate (2.00 / 1)

Senator Clinton has done some very good things in the Senate, such as opposing Bush's tax cuts, against Alito and Roberts, opposing the surge, and called for a plan to get out of Iraq.  She isn't perfect and I prefer Obama but she has done some good.

Re: Al Wynn resigning from Congress! GOOD RIDDANCE (none / 0)

wait...does that mean Donna Edwards has to run in a special primary election or does her nomination for November automatically qualify her for one?

Good question.  It'll probably be like TX-22 after Delay resigned, and Sekula-Gibbs won the special.

O'Malley may decided to hold the special and general simoutaniously in November and Donna goes to Congress early?

It's certainly possible.  Swingstateproject would probably have the most accurate info, or maybe a local Maryland political blog.

Re: Al Wynn resigning from Congress! GOOD RIDDANCE (none / 0)

If there's a special election, Obama doesn't lose a superdelegate--especially if Edwards runs, if not, then he does, because Donna Edwards won't be in Congress until 2009.

So, let's just call it a wash between the Spitzer-Paterson loss for Hillary, and now the corporate Wynn loss for Obama.

Did Obama just lose the Governor of Puerto Rico too?
