Continuing a Full Assault on the Facts

I'm zonked so I'll keep this one short & sweet...

From the FactHub

Obama Campaign Continues "Full Assault" On The Facts
3/26/2008 1:12:19 PM

The Obama campaign's full assault on Hillary is expanding into a full assault on the truth.

The memo the Obama campaign released today is full of blatantly inaccurate information and false innuendo, intended to denigrate Hillary's critical role in the passage of SCHIP and the Family and Medical Leave Act. Clearly, they believe that the media will overlook the facts and follow another false, trivial story line of their creation.

On SCHIP, Sen. Ted Kennedy said, "The children's health program wouldn't be in existence today if we didn't have Hillary pushing for it from the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue." At the time of passage in 1997, Sen. Kennedy said, "we pay tribute to Mrs. Clinton. Mrs. Clinton has made the issue of children's health and well-being her really first priority in this country, and she was of invaluable help, both in the fashioning and the shaping of the program, and also as a clear advocate, in terms of having an effective outcome, during the discussion and the debate on the children's health issue."

Factcheck.org says "Despite disparagement from political rivals, we find she deserves ample credit for expanding children's health insurance." More facts HERE.

On FMLA, Debra Ness, President of the National Partnership for Women and Families, the organization that worked for years on the issue, said "Hillary was instrumental in getting the Family and Medical Leave Act signed into law...Hillary brought her work and experience on behalf of children and working families to the campaign trail in 1991 and 1992 and knew the importance of getting this legislation passed immediately." More facts HERE.

See above link for hyperlinks to sources.

Ya know... I could work 24/7 trying to counter the BS coming out of BO's camp, but sadly, that wouldn't pay the bills or provide health insurance for my family.  So I'll just have to rely on the Fact Hub for a bit of help here.  Check out the link guys - this stuff is backed up by the facts.  And it's time the press and the media started doing their job by challenging the BS they hear during BO's pressers each day.

Re: Continuing a Full Assault on the Facts (2.00 / 4)

Yeah.

The glitterati and armchair pundits in the media would probably overlook the facts of the situation before running the dog out of the barn .

They already have a story line they want to push and if it doesn't fit their narrative they won't go with it.

OMG - did you catch that interview of Andrea Mitchell's with Jamie Rubin about Hillary's trip to Bosnia?

Talk about already having made up her "mind"!  She was just horrid!  But Rubin set her straight big-time - check it out...

Re: Continuing a Full Assault on the Facts (none / 0)

It would have been nice to include what the Obama memo actually said. I hope all those giving praise to Alegre took the time to read it before concluding it was all "BS".

The Obama memo takes issue specifically with Hillary's claim that she "created" SCHIP. Although the facts clearly support Clinton's involvement and leadership on SCHIP, she was not the author and it did not originate in the White House. That is the thrust of Obama's memo, and it is a fair criticism.

However, the memo also seeks to minimize the real involvement she did have by citing a Boston Globe investigation that concluded Clinton's role was not pivotal, but FactCheck.org's analysis is that Clinton deserves a lot of credit for pushing SCHIP through.

So where does that leave us? Well, Clinton did not "create" SCHIP, but she was responsible for getting it done. A little exaggeration on Clinton's part and some failure to give credit where it's due on Obama's part.

SCHIP is saving our bacon here in FL (2.00 / 5)

i work in public mental health, and believe me when i tell you that SCHIP is making a world of difference in many children's lives down here. the money's just not there i nthese families' budgets, and, sadly, it's not there in the state budget either. getting kids the health care they need is a wonderful investment in the future of our country, and hillary was instrumental in making it happen.

Someone needs to tell Sen. Ted to listen to his constituents.

On SCHIP, Sen. Ted Kennedy said, "The children's health program wouldn't be in existence today if we didn't have Hillary pushing for it from the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue."

I don't know where is old Ted now.  I haven't heard anything from him since the Wright fiasco.

Yes, and Rev. Wright is apparently cancelling his public appearances as well:

Re: Continuing a Full Assault on the Facts (2.00 / 5)

Obama's tactic is getting so predictable. When he's empty on some issue, he will distort Hillary's record.  If he can't match her, he will try to bring her down.  His maneuver is bland and uninspiring.

Re: SCHIP (2.00 / 3)

This is a HUGE issue in Kansas right now. The Kansas House of Representatives just passed a bill calling for $4 million to fund the first year of an insurance subsidy for the poor, a program unanimously approved by lawmakers last year. The bill also includes an insurance subsidy for the poor that was scrapped by the Senate last week. However, the funding is contingent on the FEDERAL SCHIP program.  The ripple down effect of Federal action upon various states is ENORMOUS.

Re: Continuing a Full Assault on the Facts (2.00 / 2)

SCHIP I can believe. Clinton worked on that.

The Family and Medical Leave Act, no. Just no. Bill Clinton signed it into law 13 days after he took office, and the same bill had been passed in the last congressional session. How could either of the Clintons possibly have played anything more than a ceremonial role in it?

P.S. Getting your info from Fact Hub is lame. It is literally by definition a Hillary Clinton spin site. Obama's Fact Check (http://factcheck.barackobama.com/) is no different. There are all sorts links to all the supposedly awesome stuff Obama did in the Senate as well. Do I believe half of it? Of course not. Because it's campaign spin.

Re: Continuing a Full Assault on the Facts (none / 0)

To Alegre, maybe your rhetoric seems harsher than you really meant it. But, anyhow, I'm recommending you because I just wish there were more mellowness about all of this.

Hillary Clinton isn't Satan, but Obama also isn't Satan. They're just a couple of nice, bright lawyers who are working hard to win an election.

Just the Facts, Mam (2.00 / 1)

From Fact Check. Org:

Fact Check

Clinton claims to have "negotiated open borders" in Macedonia to fleeing Kosovar refugees. But the Macedonian border opened a full day before she arrived, and her meetings with Macedonian officials were too brief to allow for much serious negotiating.

Clinton's activities "helped bring peace to Northern Ireland." Irish officials are divided as to how helpful Clinton's actions were, and key players agree that she was not directly involved in any actual negotiations.

Clinton has repeatedly referenced her "dangerous" trip to Bosnia. She fails to mention, however, that the Bosnian war had officially ended three months before her visit - or that she made the trip with her 16-year-old daughter and two entertainers.

Clinton was the one waging a full assault on the facts. Give her a break. She said she's zonked.

some more detail would be nice (none / 0)

maybe next time, you know, you could engage in real journalism--like, taking quotes from the Obama memo and demonstrating exactly why they're wrong with independent verification.

Quoting from Hillary's spin site doesn't make you a diarist.

Day after Day after Day (none / 0)

Having Alegre's diaries is like the Clinton campaign just being able to write to the MyDD rec list whatever they want every day. Straight from the daily talking points to the rec list with very little change.

Hey Alegre, do you have a link or a copy to the actual memo from the Obama camp?  Or do we take your word and Howard Wolfson's word that it was all BS?
