Liar Liar Pantsuit on Fire!

It is a generally accepted rule of thumb, when you are in a hole you stop digging.

Wolfson: "Clinton 'Misspoke' In Her Tuzla Account"

Howard Wolfson, in a conference call that's still going on, just said Hillary Clinton misspoke in part of her account of her visit to Bosnia in 1996. Clinton had said she ran from the helicopter with her head down. (Fellow passengers included her daughter and the comedian Sinbad.) Photos, video footage and news accounts show her greeting a child at a welcoming ceremony.

"She misspoke about the exit from the plane," said Wolfson.

But what if that is also a lie? Follow me to the other side....

What does "Misspoke" mean exactly?

mis·speak (ms-spk)
v. mis·spoke (-spk), mis·spo·ken (-spkn), mis·speak·ing, mis·speaks
v.tr.
To speak or pronounce incorrectly: The lead actor misspoke his lines.
v.intr.
To speak mistakenly, inappropriately, or rashly.

"The lead actor misspoke his lines"

Actor's work from a memorized script. When you think one thing but say another, it can be said that you "Misspoke".

But if that same Actor is READING his lines from a page and gets them wrong what do you call it? It can no longer be said that you "Misspoke". You can claim that you "Misread" the page but cannot be said that you "Misspoke".

This hole is not deep enough .... let's dig some more:

Clinton acknowledges a "misstatement" on Bosnia sniper fire

This afternoon, in the session with Daily News editorial writers and reporters (and some Inquirer staffers as well) in a conference room at the Daily News and Inquirer Building, I asked the presidential candidate about these discrepancies and also showed her a copy of the photo -- at the top of this post -- of her on the tarmac that day.

She was quick to answer, jumping in before I was fully finished with the question. Here's here response in its entirety:

"Now let me tell you what I can remember, OK -- because what I was told was that we had to land a certain way and move quickly because of the threat of sniper fire. So I misspoke -- I didn't say that in my book or other times but if I said something that made it seem as though there was actual fire -- that's not what I was told. I was told we had to land a certain way, we had to have our bulletproof stuff on because of the threat of sniper fire. I was also told that the greeting ceremony had been moved away from the tarmac but that there was this 8-year-old girl and, I can't, I can't rush by her, I've got to at least greet her -- so I greeted her, I took her stuff and then I left, Now that's my memory of it.
I followed-up, noting that the episode has raised questions about her credibility on foreign policy. She responded:

"No, I went to 80 countries, you know. I gave contemporaneous accounts, I wrote about a lot of this in my book. you know, I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things -- millions of words a day -- so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement."

Opps! Now right there is the biggest lie of them all:

"so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement"

But! It turns out that Hillary was reading from her prepared speech when she said:

IRAQ: Hillary's Remarks at The George Washingon University

Good morning. I want to thank Secretary West for his years of service, not only as Secretary of the Army, but also to the Veteran's Administration, to our men and women in uniform, to our country. I certainly do remember that trip to Bosnia, and as Togo said, there was a saying around the White House that if a place was too small, too poor, or too dangerous, the president couldn't go, so send the First Lady. That's where we went.

I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base. But it was a moment of great pride for me to visit our troops, not only in our main base as Tuzla, but also at two outposts where they were serving in so many capacities to deactivate and remove landmines, to hunt and seek out those who had not complied with the Dayton Accords and put down their arms, and to build relationships with the people that might lead to a peace for them and their children.

I ask you the humble reader, did you MISREAD that or was what she said WRITTEN on the page?

Somebody who should have been fired long ago knowingly put this lie in her prepared text. She had to have read the speech at least once or twice before actually giving it so to say that she "Misspoke" is a bigger lie than the one it is meant to cover up.

Liar Liar Pantsuit on Fire!

Hat Tip to Chuck Todd for his mention that this was in her prepared statements for that day.

If Hillary is "Misspoke" does that make Bill "Mr Poke?"

Re: Liar Liar Pantsuit on Fire! (2.00 / 3)

When Michelle Obama revealed this was the first time in her adult life that she was proud of America, at first the Obama camp said she misspoke. Later, we discovered she "misspoke" the same line several times that day in multiple venues.

So Glad SHE won't be President! (none / 0)

She said once:

"First time I am REALLY proud"

and once again

"First time I am proud"

I think that was the "Misspoke" that they referred to. That is in essense the definition of misspeaking.

Not reading lines EXACTLY as they are written and then claiming you Misspoke. That is not misspeaking by any stretch of the truth.

Re: So Glad SHE won't be President! (2.00 / 1)

OK then BO and his campaign are being hypocrites for parsing what HRC says and not MO?????  BO supporters can not have it both ways.  Either we can parse every word by everyone or you all need to be consistant.

And that is why BO apporval numbers and match up numbers against McCain are going down.

And why does Mark Penn, Hillarys hit man, also work for Mc Cain??  It's odd isn't it??

So this flap is about whether or not... (2.00 / 2)

Hillary Clinton actually traveled into Bosnia which was not a particularly safe place at the time; or whether her memory is good; or whether she can read?

Hmmmmmm.

Just Hmmmmmm.

Well, since she wasn't reading that comment, your poll needs another choice.

Time to finish off Hillarie Antoinette. (1.50 / 2)

Bring in the guillotine.

Here's HRC's "experience" torn down in a 9 minute video:

Duck, cover, stop, drop & roll Hillary, SNIPERS EVERYWHERE ... LOL!!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/ 23601329#23785397

Everything's debunked in the above linked segment, HRC's GREATEST HITS (well, "misses" actually... just like the snipers in post-war Bosnia narrowly missed her... whew!):

- Tuzla, Bosnia (ALL lies, war was over months in advance and MANY other "high profile" Americans - including Bill Clinton - had been there before her) - Iraq Vote (she's a tool, 'nuff said), - Opened borders in Macedonia (they opened the day before she got there, she had nothing to do with it), - Ireland Peace process (she did nothing more than arrange lunches and be CHEERLEADER), - SCHIP (she didn't do squat to get that passed, she joined in AFTER it's passage), - Family Medical Leave Act (again, she jumped on the bandwagon AFTER the work was done), - Important legislation passage (2, tied with Obama - the "junior" Senator from Illinois).

Where's the 35 years of experience HRC? Get it through your thick head(s) HRC (and her supporters: Experience means NOTHING if it was all mostly BAD experience. just like the fact that Bush being the "Decider" is NOT a good thing, if his decisions were all bad (and the worst one, Iraq, was supported by HRC to boot).

Oh great another Bosnia diary! (none / 0)

We don't have enough of these.

Maybe she was thinking about this day at Camp Bedrock when she misspoke about something that happened 10 years ago:

It's sad that the best you can do is make fun of someone who put themselves on the line for this nation to help end a war.

by MediaFreeze on Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 11:15:18 AM EST

Hahahahahahhahaah (none / 0)

MediaFreeze - that is the best you got?

It is sad indeed. Sad. Indeed.

Poor Hillary, she can't wipe off the egg fast enough.

Even Hillary's biggest Shill, Taylor Marsh, knows this has hurt her badly.

Perhaps that Kitchen Sink was made of Rubber?

Am I the only one that finds this title offensive? (none / 0)

This is a clear case of Obama supporters feeling perfectly vindicated in the most nasty sex based attacks. Clearly a pantsuit has a negative connection to the way women dress. I don't know what the similar AA race baiting comment would be, but it simply would not be tolerated.

The substance of this diary is one thing.  The nasty juvenial sexist title and language is just offensive.

My question to the diarist is, what makes you feel comfortable invoking such language?

by MediaFreeze on Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 11:23:06 AM EST

I feel good about it (none / 0)

Even David Letterman mentioned Pantsuits when Hillary was on his show for the "Top 10"

Whiner.

Hillary gets caught in a bold-faced lie and you don't like that I said "pantsuit?"

How do you feel about her fairy-tale?

Re: Liar Liar Pantsuit on Fire! (none / 0)

You guys crack me up with this Bosnia trip. She actually didn't go at all. It was her body double.

BTW, keep your hat tip cuz Chucky T is wrong. The remarks where not part of her prepared statement. Her misstatement was included in the transcript of all her remarks as delivered at the press conference. The Bosnia misstatement was not in her "prepared remarks".

by grlpatriot on Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 01:50:38 PM EST

Yes they were - Chuck T has the advance copy (none / 0)
