Hillary and Chuck Todd's Embelleshing, or MISLEADING?

Much to my suprise, I had on NBC and the Today Show this morning.  Hubby forgot to change the channel, it wasn't my fault!

It was so embarrasing listening to Matt Lauer trying to make a story out of the talking points being shoved at them from the Obama campaign.  Coloring words, emphasis of excitement on words that have little meaning, indignance on possible embelleshing of a scenerio of the First Lady going in to a War Zone in Bosnia.

Citing it must have been embelleshing on the recount of her trip to Bosnia, because Mrs. Clinton was greeted by a young girl on the tarmac.  [oh my heavens!](snark).  Of course trying to gloss over the fact that Mrs. Clinton DID go in to a WAR ZONE, BOSNIA, and was met with a surrounding of troops upon her arrival.

But, lets get back to the story NBC is trying to make out of this.  Andrea Mitchell discusses that they don't recall any sniper fire when arriving as Mrs. Clinton mentioned in a speech.  Yes, there was no ceremony on the tarmac and yes, the plane they were on did have a "corkscrew landing", used in WAR ZONES.  But Matt Lauer in his dramatic recount of this asks, Chuck Todd, but won't this make people go back and question everything she says.  OH my, you mean the Press might actually start doing their job?  Reporting facts and issues?  You mean they might actually start investigating claims of politicians and presidential candidatess?  They will start reporting on what Journalists claim?  They will actually look in to all the false claims from Senator Obama?  Or do they mean, they will just keep trying to dig up and make up stories on Mrs. Clinton?

Are they going to look in to stories of untruths on Senator Obama's 20 year frienship with indicted Slum Lord, on a host of corruption charges including fraud and influence pedding?  Or they might look in to the serious contraversy surrounding Pastor Wright, and their 20 year relationship as Senator Obama refers to hiim also as his Spritual Advisor and Lead Advisor on his presidential campaign, instead of only covering the story after it was being discussed outside mainstream media for a year, and reached epic proportions on the net?  Or they might actually report on the false claims Senator Obama continues on his Iraq War votes for his entire 2 years in the US Senate, before running for president?

But wait, they want to get back to embellishing and Hillary.  Chuck Todd recounts, indeed, embelleshing on a Presidential Election, when every thing you say is so important. Then Matt Lauer asks to look at upcoming elections and if Hillary can win still, with everyone talking about not getting the delegages.  Forgetting the other half of this conversation, that Obama looks unlikely to win and he cannot get the delegates either.  OOPS, minor oversight. (no embelleshing here).

So Chuck Todd now points to the Obama future sights of North Carolina and Indiana (and making further Hillarys case that this is far from over, many important states have yet to be heard), because they no longer want to talk about the important state of Pennsylvania.  And Chuck Todd raises a new fire wall for Obama by saying only if Hillary wins in May, North Carolina or Indiana can she then say she stands the best chance of winning the General Election with her broad cross appeal and winning small and LARGE states that are so important for the General Election.  He then goes on to say, North Carolina is Obama turf (oh really), because "Obama has won every state that touches the Atlantic".  WHAT?  No, he didn't say that, did he?

[rewind dvd recorder]Chuck Todd says, "Obama has won every state that touches the Atlantic, from Delaware to Georgia".  Oh, come on!  TALK ABOUT EMBELLESHING?  HELLO? Obama has won every state that touches the Atlantic (except all those important states like Massachusettes, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Florida?)  He means ALL THOSE OTHER 3 STATES that touch the Atlantic.  You know, from (Deleware to Georgia)  ALL OF THOSE STATES, Maryland, Virginia and South Carolina.  Oh well, is this even categorized as EMBELLESHING by our reporters and journalists, or is out right MISLEADING?  ANd using our airwaves to do it?

Mr. Todd, don't you think you should have your Mea Culpa and be a little honest with that careless statement?  Maybe you should just try some honesty and say, North Carolina has now become important.  An Atlantic state that Obama has won to the south with South Carolina and Georgia and north with Virginia, Maryland and Delaware, but Hillary has won all the other states and larger states like Massachusettes, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey and Florida, but is now surging with momentum raising her numbers even higher in Pennsylvania and is now polling above Obama in North Carolina, which now she stands the chance of overtaking that too?

I'll keep waiting for our media and reporters to start questioning and reporting truths, but in the mean time, can you at least correct this latest EMBELLESHMENT by our our respected Press?

Wow. De-caf tomorrow, methinks.

Silly Clinton supporters. When you try to support an unsupportable position, it makes your candidate look weaker. If you admit she is fallible and move on, people go "Huh... I guess they are pretty even-minded..." and makes you and your candidate look more appealing.

When will the madness end?!?

Hooray for John McCain!

Re: Hillary and Chuck Todd's Embelleshing, or MISL (none / 0)

I just watched it - he did attack/belittle/lie, what he said was true.  Obama has won every state touching the Atlantic from DE to GA.  The states you mention are either north of DE, or south of GA.
Friendly advice, Clinton supporters - not everyone is out to get you or your candidate, nor are they sexist and hate the Clintons if they support Obama.   Chuck Todd is ALL about the math, nothing more nothing less.  He has done an excellent job - better than the campaigns themselves - on keeping the delegate math straight.
Please keep this is perspective, our job is to win in November, not tear down the eventual nominee.

I guess when all your guy does is lying, you expect it from everyone.

hmmm does that make it ok?

Great diary Linda (none / 0)

The press is so corrupt and in the tank for Obama.

by karajan72 on Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 12:28:07 PM EST

media can't stand... (none / 0)

when Hillary surges. So they try and stop it. But the calendar and end game doesn't favor Obama.

Don't you think, if the supers really believed in BHO, they would have all swung to him by now?

HRC will win PA, KY, WV, IN, PR

tossups in NC, SD

I have no idea about Guam and MT.

they are trying to put a stop to this now before the PA win drives her to wins in May.

Re: media can't stand... (none / 0)

The press didn't do anything.  Hillary lied herself-not the press.  The only thing the press did was their job and record the actual events in Bosnia and then report on them.

Hillary is Done (none / 0)

It's over Hillary. HRC supporters need to start behaving like Huckabee & Romney supporters -- support the nominee Obama.

Re: Hillary is Done (2.00 / 1)

LOL  It is over.  For Obama.

Deal with it.  He has had more help than anyone can imagine, but the truth is leaking out and he is falling.

He tried.  He painted a tale.  Voters are biting anymore.  He's young enought to fix and actually have a record that matches what he claims.

I know they are desperately trying to make a new firewall, but it's done.  It's best to deal with it and put your efforts to good use and help the Dem's win in November with Hillary.

Re: Hillary is Done (none / 0)

Um, have you forgot that he's still far, far ahead of Hillary?  And that during his supposed worst week of the campaign, she didn't catch up - at all?

Lol

Re: Hillary is Done (none / 0)

Oh, I see, you want to close your eyes to reality.

It's ok, just do the healing thing offline, oK?

Hillary has over taken her lead as the polls show.  Hillary has grown her lead in PA.

Hillary is now 1 pt up on Obama in North Carolina.  And looking very good for Indiana and South Carolina.

So, again, facts paint a different picture.

Re: Hillary is Done (none / 0)

Jeez, you're behind.

That '1 pt lead' in NC was based on a PPP poll, the latest version of which was released today; and which showed Obama leading by 21 points over Clinton.

Ras. shows her up by 10 in PA, which is a few points LESS then before.  Now, that's not a huge move.  But she sure didn't increase her lead.

Not that it matters anyways, as she cannot catch up - or even come close - with these contests.  She won't win by enough to do so, anywhere.

SOS Media Matters, (2.00 / 1)

This statement by Chuck Todd is too egregious to let slide.  Linda, I hope you will send it in to Media Matters.  Good job!

Re: Hillary and Chuck Todd's Embelleshing? (none / 0)

You mean, Hillary was greeted by a young girl on the tarmac while under sniper fire!  Wow what a brave young girl! She should have won a metal.  And Hillary, when she bent down to hug her was "ducking", right!

There is an opposite to your favorite word, "embellishing".  It is "denying."  If Hillary's account of being under sniper fire as she landed in Bosnia seems to you basically consistent with greeting a young girl there with a hug, then I guess you are all about denying and denial.

All it takes is a few good people who are willing to examine each story objectively, instead of with the denial of their own mental bias.

by Fichetail on Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 12:39:56 PM EST

Re: Hillary and Chuck Todd's Embelleshing, (none / 0)

The only person who mislead on Hillary's landing in Bosnia is Hillary herself.  You would think that the Clinton supporters would understand that is what the Clintons do.  They embellish and tell falsehoods so much that you cannot tell the truths from the lies.

Tanked (none / 0)

The "in the tankness" of the MSM is stupendous. It is a 24/7 Obama fan club. The problem for Obama, even with the media as his campaign surrogate, is that he still cannot beat Hillary.

Acutally, no--- (none / 0)

Several news organizations have reported that it wasn't, in fact, a "corkscrew landing".

It was a "rapid descent" -- quite different from SAM evading 'corkscrew landings'.

This, of course, is the classic Clinton problem with truth telling... it's not good enough to simply toss out an 'oopsie, I misremembered!' --- it's gotta become Rovian spinning and revisionist history.

Perhaps Bill can provide some pointers on how to get all red in the face and wag one's finger at the pressitutes... that always seemed to be a really effective method for emphasizing the lie.

Re: Acutally, no--- (none / 0)

roflmao.......you're going to actually sit there and try to twist that.  LMAO

Oh, thank you.  I haven't laughted that hard in a long time.  LOL

I can't stop laughing.....oh geez.....well, why don't you go call everyone else a liar to.  The habit grows from what I see.  I guess that's what happens when you support a candidate that lies about EVERYTHING.

Re: Acutally, no--- (none / 0)

There's nothing to twist.

Like John McCain, Hillary Clinton has now been found to have lied several times on an issue and with an intent that helps their respective campaigns.

How about if I call it "Intentional strategic misspeaking"?

That work?

Re: Hillary and Chuck Todd's Embelleshing, or MISL (none / 0)

Wait. What is incorrect about this statement?

"Obama has won every state that touches the Atlantic, from Delaware to Georgia".

Looking at my map, every state that touches the Atlantic from Delaware to Georgia that they have had a contest in, he has won....

If you are not voting Obama, please let me know so I can replace your sorry ass with another new voter.
