The Shape of Things to Come

Sometimes things are so obvious that they pass us by without notice. Perhaps it is because they are so blatantly true that we choose not to acknowledge them. Or maybe it is that because they challenge our preheld conceptions so strongly that we choose to ignore their reality. Because otherwise we would feel bewildered, alone and helpless.

I know that many who once supported Senator Obama are in complete shock over the revelations of his 20 year intimate association with a bigot and a racist. It doesn't fit into the mold of who we think Barack Obama is. His pastor surely doesn't preach the "message" of hope that Obama is associated with. In fact his pastor preaches what one could only define as hate. But just why is it that we so strongly believe that Senator Obama has a message of hope and a new kind of politics? In the preface of his book The Audacity of Hope which he patterned after a sermon of his spiritual mentor, Jeremiah Wright, Obama gives us a glimmer of an answer.

Audacity of Hype

"I am new enough on the national political scene that I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views. As such, I am bound to disappoint some, if not all, of them."

You see, Senator Obama believes that if enough people project their views of what he should be onto him then he will be able to take advantage of their ignorance and become elected to the highest office of the most powerful nation on earth. That is the more subtle message to what Obama states plainly. But he won't tell you that because doing so would cause you to wake up and realize that he is just taking advantage of your hope and your faith in him to hoodwink you into giving him the reigns to power.

How else do you explain his oft cited ability to bring people together? Does he have any experience whatsoever of doing this in a legislative body? Has he used his supposedly remarkable skills to bring an end to the partisan bickering and stalemate on Capitol Hill? Has he been able to work across the aisle and bring people together to end the Iraq war? Has he been able to work across the aisle to do anything other than water down regulatory legislation so much that it becomes unnecessary while taking money from the CEO of an industry he was supposed to be regulating?

Unfortunately the answer to all these questions is a simple word: NO!

And yet still we hear from pundits and political hacks how Obama has the ability to do this and that without a shred of evidence that he has ever demonstrated the slightest capacity to do so. Not a shred of evidence. In fact many of his supporters when asked what his legislative achievements seem bewildered and begin to stutter just like he is so famous for. Because quite simply they cannot answer the question. Truthfully.

So we are to take his word that he has these abilities because why? Because he tells us he can? Because people say that he can? Because his opponent and/or her husband are such terrible people? Because we may never again have the chance? It seems there are no easy or substantial answers. Because to answer the questions based on the evidence requires not only a willing suspension of disbelief, it requires a huge leap of faith. And faith is an article of religion not politics.

So to form our judgments we are left with the truth. And the truth is that Senator Obama has a pattern of associations with unsavory characters. And I am being generous and polite. What follows is one of the most recent videos making it's way around the internet. It includes clips I have not seen before and I find them revolting and entirely offensive. And I am a Democrat.

America is the same as Al Qaeda?

What this type of information in the hands of the Republican machine and their money will do is beyond anyone's comprehension. Mark my words, if we are so unfortunate to have this man as our candidate we will need to redefine the term swiftboating for an entire generation.

One of the few things I remember Obama (2.00 / 3)

saying in his own words is how disorganized he was-that he had trouble keeping track of his pens.. Lord help us if people don't wake up. He is so not ready to be a president.

Hillary would be child's play for the GOP to smear.

FOXNews and every right winger out there agrees with you...does that make you feel good?

You have become a Sean Hannity clone.. are you comfortable in his skin?

Please stop distorting and using this story like an O'Reilly and Buchanan. You cannot be a democrat if you are pushing this.

Re: The Shape of Things to Come (1.87 / 8)

The problem with the Democratic party is people like you that refuse to see beyond the present. I didn't create this video. And I am not the first one to have mentioned it. This is clearly something the Republicans will use during the general election should Obama become our nominee. People like me should be thanked for bringing this information to the forefront so that hopefully some of the bamboozled can awake from their dream and see what this man Obama is doing and will do to our Democratic party.

If you are so blind or hoodwinked that you can't see how information like this will galvanize the Republicans behind even a weak candidate then there is nothing I can do to help you. Because clearly you are naive. But for those that honestly care about the fate of the Democratic party I will continue to point out the fatal flaws of nominating Barack Obama. If God Damn America, US KKK A and saying we deserved 9/11 wasn't enough to rile up the Republicans, comparing Al Qaeda and the USA surely will.

Step AWAY from the Koolaid!

Re: The Shape of Things to Come (none / 0)

Excuse me, Fleaflicker, but if anyone's drinking the kool aide, it's hardline Clinton folks like you.

I'm more than willing to concede points on mistakes Obama has made, or discuss building a coalition towards November if he doesn't get the nomination. You, on the other hand, seem to be caught up in a personality cult with the idea of a Clinton presidency. You ignore all her shortcomings and failings; anytime they're brought up you just segway into an attack on Obama.

Luckily for me, with the folks I've met around here, I know most Clinton supporters are level-headed and think you're nuts, too.

Re: Speaking of "segway" (none / 0)

Perhaps, but now we're into circular logic. Fleaflicker is claiming the moral high ground when he has no standing to- I never claimed it; and if I saw an Obama supporter doing that, I would gladly slap them down in the interest of party cohesion. Neither side will benefit if this continues; we'll decide, as a county, our personal "take my ball and go home" attitude will allow another four years of Bush administration policies.

Re: Speaking of "segway" (2.00 / 1)

I have as much "standing" as anyone else. Party cohesion is nominating the best candidate for the job. If we don't do our own vetting we leave it to the Republicans. Because the media sure as hell isn't doing it's job.

And while you are so proudly taking the high road here where are your comments toward Obama supporters that trash Hillary every single chance they get. And where is your outrage at Obama himself for saying and standing by while others say such horrible things about Hillary?

Re: Speaking of "segway" (2.00 / 1)

My thoughts EXACTLY, Fleaflicker...It seems to me that now Obama supporters are trying to turn the tables...when it was beneficial to slam Hillary at every opportunity, they did it with glee and apparently with his approval (as he never said a damn thing to stop them)...now that they realize Obama can't do anything without Hillary supporters, they are trying to take the high road and say "come together." I, for one, haven't decided what I'll do if Hillary isn't the nominee. AND, my indecision doesn't make me anything other than the DieHard Democrat I have been my entire activitist life (35+ years). I care about my party and am just so mad that Obama wasn't vetted early on.

Any dem supporting a flat out race baiter is nuts; and it's not clinton supporters.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/01/12 /obama-camps-memo-on-clin_n_81205.html

http://mediamatters.org/items/2008011300 04

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/ did_clinton_darken_obamas_skin.html

Feb 4th:
"New York State Senator Bill Perkins used quite explicit racial stereotyping in a speech aimed at discouraging his constituents from voting for Clinton by saying, Harlem "is not Bill Clinton's backyard or his plantation. Underscore, plantation."
Does Bill Clinton own slaves? Cuz I fail to see the connection between him and a plantation?

''But, I'm not privy to Senate intelligence reports,'' Mr. Obama said. ''What would I have done? I don't know. What I know is that from my vantage point the case was not mad

"So it's not clear to me what differences we've had since I've been in the Senate. I think what people might point to is our different assessments of the war in Iraq, although I'm always careful to say that I was not in the Senate, so perhaps the reason I thought it was such a bad idea was that I didn't have the benefit of U.S. intelligence. And, for those who did, it might have led to a different set of choices. So that might be something that sort of is obvious. But, again, we were in different circumstances at that time: I was running for the U.S. Senate, she had to take a vote, and casting votes is always a difficult test." [The New Yorker, 10/30/06]
"Not only was the idea of an invasion increasingly popular, but on the merits I didn't consider the case against war to be cut-and- dried." ["Audacity of Hope," 2006, p. 294]

And Geraldine is a racist even though Obama said it first:
" In winning the Democratic Senate primary in Illinois, Obama drew as many as two white votes for every black one, showing nearly unprecedented crossover appeal for a black candidate in a statewide race.
Obama acknowledges, with no small irony, that he benefits from his race.
If he were white, he once bluntly noted, he would simply be one of nine freshmen senators, almost certainly without a multimillion-dollar book deal and a shred of celebrity. Or would he have been elected at all?"

You cannot be a democrat and turn your head while Obama denies Michigan and Florida American citizens' votes to count in this democracy.

Re: The Shape of Things to Come (2.00 / 4)

Too true! Like it or not the Republicans ARE going to use this to thier advantage.
Wright is a sickening, racial fanatic. The Republicans will rightly question Obama's judgement given that he was mentored by this man for twenty years.
Obama, with the complicity of the media, has fooled a multitude of voters. It makes me sick to think some in the Good Ole Boy network in the DNC are still supporting him.
God help us all

Pieces of the Barack puzzle (2.00 / 2)

All of us do this.  On someone we don't know, we watch and listen.

One piece of a puzzle of a person's makeup and character is his church attendance or not.  So, plop there's goes a piece of picture of the person.  Then we learn that he's married - plop with another piece.  Then we learn that he has kids, another piece.  Attends PTA meetings, another piece.  Attends a certain church - piece.  The person has attended the same church for many years where the Pastor preaches X - another piece.

People have pieced together a puzzle of Hillary.  Piece after piece, we each make our own judgment as to her veracity, her character, her ability.

For some, they have enough of the picture of a candidate to make a decision.  Some go by their "gut feeling" entirely - like the people that said that Dubya was someone they'd like to have a beer with (strange to want to have a beer with a person who admits to a drinking problem), but there you have it!  Some don't care about the puzzle at all because they've long ago come to believe that "All politicians" are liars and crooks, so one is no different than the other.

For others, they are like Johnny 5 and "need input" and that is what some are missing from Obama.

Yea, the numbers are the IP address to Wright's videos on YouTube.

Apparently you're not smart or brave enough to admit Obama's downfall.

hillary has a "misspoke," Obama has 20 years of wrong from Wright.

You people know the writing is on the wall because of Hillary's voting amounts in Florida and Michigan would award her the popular vote.

So you chose to be like republicans; therefore obama's not a democrat, he's an imposter.

Re: The Shape of Things to Come (2.00 / 3)

America is ready to elect an African American president but not a man who has spent 20 years as a member of a black liberation church which practices racist, Anti-American, anti-semitic theology.

If the Democratic party is foolish enough to hand over the nomination to him he will lose the general election by a landslide -- many hillary supporters won't support him because of how abusive his supporters have been to us, MI and FL won't support him, and many Americans who are uncomfortable with his close relationship with a racist won't vote for him.

If Dems really want to get out of Iraq, and restore the economy they'll make Hillary the nominee.

Re: The Shape of Things to Come (2.00 / 3)

If you have taken the time to listen to Hillary's speeches she has the knowledge and wisdom to get the job done. She realizes she may not be able to get troops home as soon as she wants but will defer to the knowledge of the military. She had the cajones to ask hard questions of General Petraeus when he spoke in fron t of Congress.

She has time and time again stood up for the rights of women and children everywhere. Now she is standing up for the families who may soon be losing their homes. She is questioning why we can bail out Bears Stearns when we are not bailing out the American families who may lose the family farm. As one who got hit by the subprime mess, I know that many mortgage companies were doing the old talking out of both sides of the mouth thingy.

Hillary Clinton has the foreign affairs experience. Read the following paper. It is insightful as well as full of facts that cannot be disputed. http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p_mla_ap a_research_citation/0/8/9/0/7/p89072_ind ex.html.
