The Race and Gender Card is Bull!

Yes, there are ethnic differences, but throughout all of history there have/were slaves to the RICH and Corporations. Go back to the Roman days, The early Religious wars etc.

Most immigrants to America were used and abused by those, mostly RICH people who immigrated here first and those who had the most money and power. The Irish, Italians, Jews, Polish, Asians, Franco-Americans from Canada etc., etc.

That many/most RICH people are white only matters in America. One can go to the middle east and see how the Rich and Powerful in each of those countries treat the poor members of their own ethnicity like slaves and peons. Look at what's going on in many African nations. The RICH blacks controling and killing the poor.
Walk into any large corporations and compare those at the top to those on the bottom and you'll see the same slave-dynamic at work.

I see the race card bait as a tool of the RICH Corporatists who have the money and power to control anyone not in their league. This kind of bad thinking has been engrained in most of us over centuries.

The American society has bought into the skin-color bias over the years, but there are just as many, probably more poor whites as other ethnic groups.

We are all human beings. Nothing else.

So to me this political battle between Hillary and Obama is being severely compromised by the ignorance of us at the lower level as we are mostly puppets of the RICH Corporations.

With that in mind one must choose intelligence and prepared on policies person over the obvious gender and race. Forget who you are looking at and listen to what they are saying.

Don't be guilt-tripped by bogus issues like race or gender. Pick the best Democratic candidate.

Many immigrant groups are better off than native (none / 0)

born Americans and I think this is because...

1.) They don't have the antiintellectual bias that Americans often have. Kids in immigrant communities are ENCOURAGED to excel in school. (not ostracized for it) Parents often ask schools what more they can do to help, or 'if they could pay more taxes' to improve schools! (Contrast that to American born parents who always seem to want to pay less taxes for schools and ludicrously expect no negative changes to come of that.)

2.) They sometimes share much more than native Americans do, for example, loaning money within families and patronizing one another's businesses.

3.) They work hard and have less of a sense of entitlement.

4.) They maintain family ties better and that serves as a bulwhark against stress

Re: The Race and Gender Card is Bull! (none / 0)

Are you comparing what happens in businesses to slavery? Are you comparing what has happened to other ethnic groups or women to slavery? About these other groups? Were they sold as property? Abused and killed legally? Families torn apart? Treated as animals? What the heck are you talking about?

My point is- that we each hold our (2.00 / 1)

own destiny within our own hands. Are there barriers and what seem to be insurmountable problems, Yes, often and many, and one of them is our refusal to investigate and research on our own and allowing others to tell us who we are or what we are. Group-think is generally not a good thing under any guise.

Business is more profitable.. (2.00 / 1)

Slaves are investments, you have to feed and house them, keep them healthy.

It would be too expensive for businesses now. They would not want the burden.

With independent contractors, you don't even need to pay benefits.

Coercive yes, slavery, no.

I think in the future of labor is in prison labor. As there are fewer and fewer jobs, there will be bigger and bigger prisons. People will be expected to pay for their keep by working or organ 'donations'.

It will be big business.

The magic of the marketplace.

Indentured servitude (none / 0)

Actually, I also see a big future in indentured servitude. Again, more profitable than slavery. (as many as one half to one third never finished their seven years)

Many of our ancestors came here as indentured servants.. or slaves..

ndentured Servitude in Colonial America
By Deanna Barker, Frontier Resources

http://www.geocities.com/nai_cilh/servit ude.html

"Criminals convicted of a capital crime in England could be transported in lieu of a death sentance (for the theft of an item with a cost of as little as one shilling). Servitude also could result from indebtedness, where a person, their spouse or parents owed money, and the person was sold into servitude to recover the debt. In other cases, a parish indentured orphans in order to keep them off the poor roles. Plus, the poor sometimes sold themselves into indenture just to survive."

No doubt (2.00 / 2)

John Lennon wrote Woman is the N*** of the World for a reason. Many immigrants were subjected to indentured servitude as well, which is exactly like slavery. So much like it, in fact, that it's also illegal. But it happens to this day in locked in sweat shops on the East and West Coasts in America.

I know Travis from dKos, btw. I wouldn't respond again if I were you Rose. Troll city with zero political acumen.

Re: No doubt (none / 0)

I really can't believe this.

I don't argue that other people have been mistreated here, but do you have a clue what slavery was all about?

I'm totally in shock. Is this what decades of neglecting our education system has brought us to.

Re: All of the above- Read your history (none / 0)

I've read my history. Treatment of women or other ethnicities in the United States, while often not stellar, is NOT comparable to African slavery. To do so, if that is the comparison that it being made, would be plainly ignorant.

Its a matter of historical record that slaves... (none / 0)

in the North, were better treated than indentured servants, with a higher survival rate..

In the South, it was a different story..

I can find references on this if you want.

When an employer only buys someone for seven years, they tend to forgo medical care, food, etc.

Many were already very sick from the sea voyage and the stress of having their family broken up on the docks and seeing them sold off like pigs, alongside pigs and cattle.

How do you think American was populated? It was only later that people came here voluntarily..
