Pledge to Support the Democratic Nominee

I would like to put forward a personal plea and a personal pledge.  The tenor on this site has been severely acrimonious over the last several months.

Regardless of my own support for my candidate and the animosity generated:

I hereby pledge to support either Democratic nominee, no matter which one it is.  I also pledge to not post any disparaging articles about my non-favored candidate on this site.

Also, in the hopes of crafting unity in the general election and fostering constructive debate on this site:

I hereby call on everyone here to support the democratic nominee, whoever it might be.

I also call on this site to ban any member that posts any disparaging posts about the democratic nominee.

Please vote your pledge below...

Re: Pledge to Support the Democratic Nominee (none / 0)

Only if the person who wins the most pledged delegates is the nominee.

Anything else is unacceptable to me and I will take it as a sign that I am free to go my own way. Loyalty will be meaningless should the process eb overturned.

Re: Pledge to Support the Democratic Nominee (none / 0)

Only if the winner of the popular vote from all 50 states is the nominee. If not, and if any state's voters are tossed out, I will be free to go my own way.

You would ban discourse (none / 0)

even though it might be unfavorable to your candidate?!?!?!?!?!?! Think democracy much?

Re: You would ban discourse (none / 0)

This is a Democratic site for Progressive Change.  We will have ample opportunity to bash Bush.  This site should not be a place for our own party to tear down the Democratic nominee.

Re: Pledge to Support the Democratic Nominee (2.00 / 1)

What would we talk about if we made your pledges???

I will not honor the nomination of any candidate until all the votes  are counted. Until we count all the votes (or revotes of FL and MI) the nomination is not legitimate, and I will not honor nor vote for a nominee from a stolen election.

Parentheses (2.00 / 1)

Everyone seems to have a nice little parenthetical snipe at why they will support the Dem candidate except if..............

Kind of makes this an exercise in futilty and a lost election opportunity.

I pledge to support Hillary all the way (none / 0)

Your diary is a simply provocation and extremely divisive.
If she is not a nominee than 20% or more of her supporters (I think more than 30%) will vote for McCain. I pledge I will not vote for Obama.
And I predict McCain will beat Obama badly, if Dems are stupid enough to nominate Obama.

Re: I pledge to support Hillary all the way (none / 0)

Then go and post on FoxNews.com.  This is a site for Democrats.  We need a Democrat in office.  Not a Republican.  If you are truly considering supporting McCain, you should not be here.

Re: I pledge to support Hillary all the way (2.00 / 1)

I vividly disagree: Hillary is only Democrat here.
If you wish to support Obama you go to Dailykos and post there. I do not consider Obama as a real Democrat after all we learn about him. So my place is here and yours is not. And YES I agreed with one of your statements: "We need a Democrat in office" it is why I support Hillary and you should too if you want THE DEMOCRAT.

Voting for the nominee (none / 0)

I'm an Obama supporter and increasingly disenchanted with Clinton, but I will vote for Clinton even if she were to override the will of the voters over my strenuous objection and take the nomination with an overwhelming superdelegate swing.  I do that because as a Democrat I care about things like an economy which serves the middle class, the opportunity for every child to pursue their dreams, progressive foreign policy, weaning our country off of oil, and a woman's right to choose.  Even if by the end of August I end up hating Hillary Clinton like the plague I will vote for her in November.

It's amazing how many whining children hang out here at myDD.  I hope people remember why they are Democrats and that the issues which face America are so much more important than the emotional battle Democrats are having with each other right now.

Re: Voting for the nominee (none / 0)

Thanks for agreeing to support the nominee.  I too have my biases but above all do not want a Republican in office.

B.S. (none / 0)

You are an Obama supporter becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the messes he's just now starting to be held responsible for. I will never vote for him and will continue to fight his nomination every step of the way. If you don't want to read the discourse, try going to his Web site for an echo chamber.

Are you a Democrat?  If so, why?

Re: B.S. (none / 0)

Who are you to question my alliegience? I am a registered Dem. and have never voted Repub. in my life but I will never vote for anyone I don't really want to be President again. Starting with Oprahma. If BO gets the nod, I'll be writing Clinton's name in anyway, so I'll still be voting for a Democrat. There will also be plenty of wonderful Dems I can vote for down ticket.

Re: B.S. (none / 0)

That's fine, write in Hillary.  I pledged above, and I continue to pledge that I will not disparage Hillary on this site if she is the nominee.  I hope you Hillary supporters will join me in this pledge.

Re: B.S. (none / 0)

I asked because there must be a reason you are a Democrat - some direction in which you would like to see your country go and/or some issues you care about.  To suddenly forfeit your opportunity to direct your country's future after being so heavily invested is pretty sad.
