Wright: Pastor at it again!

Update: Let's see if we can drag some more people in with a funny title.

Wright treats a president of the United States.

So it looks like Jeremiah Wright recieved commendation for tending to LBJ while he was a marine medical technician.

I wonder how this can be construed as him hating America.  Let's find out.

Anyway, there's also quite a few videos out there of Wright's sermons that aren't cherry-picked just to the most out-of-context segments, so why don't I throw those in here, too?

The famous ones:
Chickens coming home to roost
God damn America

And here's some normal sermons that let you understand him a little better.

Truth to Power

God has a Solution

Women and God

Audacity to Hope Part 1

Audacity to Hope Part 2

AIDS ministry

Here's the new pastor talking about his church and his predecessor:

The truth about TUCC

I'm writing this diary so that people can see for themselves that Wright, however controvercial, is not a bad person or truly anti-American.

Jeremiah and 9/11: What he actually said. (2.00 / 2)

Visitors, I often give little faith footnotes, so that our members don't lose sight of the big picture, let me give you a faith footnote. Turn to your neighbor and say, "Faith footnote."  [Voices: "Faith footnote"]

[Begin faith footnote]

I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday.  Did anybody else see him or hear him, he was on Fox News. This is a white man, and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end.   He pointed out, (Did you see him, John?) --a white man-- he pointed out-- an ambassador-- that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Mohammad was in fact true, America's chickens are coming home to roost.

We took this country, by terror, away from the Sioux, the Apache, the Arrowak (phonetic) the Comanche, the Arapajo, the Navajo.  Terrorism--we took Africans from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear.  Terrorism.  We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians -- babies, non-military personnel.  We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with Stealth Bombers and killed unarmed teenagers, and toddlers, pregnant mothers  and hard working father.  [fullest voice]  We bombed Khadafi, his home and killed his child.  Blessed be they who bash your children's head agains the rocks.

[fullest voice]  We bombed Iraq, we killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living.  We bombed the plant in Sudan to payback for the attack on our embassy -- killed hundreds of hard working people --mothers and fathers, who left home to go that day, not knowing they'd never get back home.  [Even fuller voice] We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye.  Kids playing in the playground, mothers picking up children after school -- civilians not soldiers.  People just trying to make it day by day.  We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and South Africa and now we are indignant?  Because the stuff we have done overseas is brought back into our own front yard.

America's chickens are coming home, to roost.  Violence begets violence.  Hatred begets hatred, and terrorism begets terrorism.

[lower voice] A White ambassador said that, y'all, not a black militant.  Not a Reverend who preaches about racism, an ambassador whose eyes are wide open, and whose trying to get us to wake up, and move away from this dangerous precipice upon which we are now poised.  The ambassador said that the people we have wounded don't have the military capability we have, but they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them, and we need to come to grips with that.

Let me stop my faith footnote right there, and ask you to think about that over the next few weeks if God grants us that many days.  Turn back to your neighbor, and say, "Footnote is over."  [Voices:  "Footnote is over."]

[End Faith Footnote]

[Gentle voice]  Now, now.  C'mon back to my question to the Lord, "What should our response be right now. In light of such an unthinkable act.  I asked the Lord that question Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

We're not the ones you need to convince of that. Get it?

We who? This blog is full of knee-jerk (2.00 / 2)

patriots who claim Wright is the devil.

Re: Jeremiah and Lyndon (2.00 / 1)

I guess I hope you're right.  But they haven't given me much faith that they'll remember him fairly.

No offense to anyone (2.00 / 0)

but good on you for assisting in the swiftboating of Jeremiah Wright, I hope your proud. I knew he was a marine. But LBJ? That's a full circle of WTF! I guess the title for a great hit diary would be "Jeremial Wright prolonged the vietnam war," or something dumb like that.

The hell? (2.00 / 1)

You're saying that he should have... what?  Let a man die?  A president no less?

Wright disagreed fervently with the atrocities of Vietnam, but he was a patriot and he served his president, both as a soldier and as a medical technician.

Anyone who uses this information to Swift Boat Wright is sub-human.

Re: Wright: Pastor at it again! (none / 0)

Anyone have a link to the one where he claims Bill Clinton has been dirty riding the AA community just like he did ML?  Is that the same one where he claims Hillary has never had to work hard for anything or never been called a really bad name I won't say?

Are they the same sermon? Is there any way this or these sermons do not constitute electioneering in the Church?

Re: Wright: Pastor at it again! (none / 0)

This one is part of the "Hillary ain't never been called a n****r" sermon:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iPjVp3PLnV s

It's not the full sermon, as far as I can tell, but there's nothing identifiably racist about it.  He's telling a church with white and black people in it that there are still differences between whites and blacks, and that they're proud of Obama and think that he can do a lot of good with regards to race relations because he's been on the recieving end.

Would you rather that they not support a presidential candidate that happens to be a member of their church?  It sounds like this was recorded around the end of last year, when people were complaining that Obama wasn't "black enough."

Well, he's half black, but he speaks from experience about problems black folk have.  This is a good thing for important community members like pastors to speak about, yes?

If you go to the videos I have in the diary, then click on the "TRINITYCHGO" user name, you can see all the online videos from the non-attack source.

Re: Wright: Pastor at it again! (none / 0)

Thank you for the link.

It is anti-Hilary political advocacy - whipping up racial hatred and  placing Hillary as a typical example of the hated group. It is vile. Of course, this is just my opinion.

I'm reminded of MO's comment of taking 'tone' into account when she makes her decision on whether she would support Hillary as the nominee.

I'm disgusted by the tone of Wright's advocacy for Obama.

I'll go looking now for a link where Obama specifically condemns that particular sermon. I hope I like it's tone, if not, I'm contemplating Nader for the GE should Obama maintain his status as the anointed one.

I have no problem with any of the other Wright sermons and do not need to go see them. I'm sure there is lots of good stuff there and I do not take offense to the 9/11, KKK, or the God Damn America ones. They are, you must admit, rather controversial but if Barack Obama is not going to defend Wright for those sermons, why should I?

You make a good point (none / 0)

I think he went overboard a bit on the Clinton issue, but he's largely not preaching hate, he's preaching similarity.  What he's saying about Clinton isn't necessarally about her, it's about Obama and what he can offer that's unique.

You have a point that he wasn't being sensitive, but I don't see a reason to condemn a man's presidential bid be cause you can't find an instance of him refuting a particular thing another person said.

Obama already said that the publicized bits of the sermons were wrongheaded, right?

I'm glad Wright retired.  It was time.  I think that all this will have brought Jeremiah himself some perspective on the perpetuity of hate and how it can affect one's loved ones.

Re: Wright: Pastor at it again! (none / 0)

Can you add the Hope sermon?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFZROa0rl MU

The content doesn't match BHO's book.  But, the content isn't nutty.

And this sermon shows that Wright isn't always talking about AIDS as Tuskegee Part II.

Sure, thanks. (none / 0)

I'll add both parts of the Hope sermon.  Feel free to link to this page to spread the understanding.
