Florida voters New Poll /Count the results!

A new poll commissioned by the Miami Herald and the St. Petersburg Times clearly shows the peril to Democrats in November should the Florida delegation not be seat at the convention and the votes cast by 1.7 million Floridians not count.
The survey results:
More than three out of four Florida Democrats say it's "very important" that Florida's delegates count toward the nomination, and one in four said they would be less likely to support the ultimate Democratic nominee if Florida's delegates don't count.

The telephone survey of 600 registered Democrats and frequent Florida voters was conducted March 15-17 for the St. Petersburg Times, Bay News 9 and the Miami Herald. The poll was done by Schroth, Eldon & Associates, whose clients primarily are Democrats. The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Supporters of Clinton and Obama were as expected divided as follows:
Twice as many Clinton supporters -- 56 percent -- want the Florida primary to count as do Obama supporters -- 27 percent. Still, even among Obama supporters, the idea of counting that primary is slightly more popular than holding a new election or dividing Florida's delegates evenly between the two candidates.

Clearly Democrats proceed at their own peril in a key state.

That poll says count the DELEGATES. Not the votes. Even Obama would seat FL's delegates in some fashion.

Re: Florida voters New Poll /Count the results! (none / 0)

Seating the delegates and counting them are two very different things. Florida voters know that the poll was questioning whether or not they want the delegates COUNTED at the Convention. The distinction is that delegates are earned for each candidate on the basis of the votes in the primary.

If the DNC does not rescind this illegitimate ruling, and count Florida's delegates, then Florida may well be lost to Democrats in November. We cannot afford to lose Florida; and if we do, that will be Howard Dean's enduring legacy of shame.

i'd stop the whining, the votes won't be counted. Better to focus on other states. Florida will most likely be lost by both Obama and Clinton.

Re: Florida voters New Poll /Count the results! (2.00 / 1)

Howard Dean and Donna Brazil have lost FL for the DEM party.  Donna Brazil was the first DNC member to push for a 100% stripping of delegates and forced it up at the DNC/RBC (Rules and ByLaws Committee) to a vote.

The republicans have by manipulation of the DNC, secured FL once again for themselves.  And this time ONLY Democrats have themselves to blame.

It will ALL be counted...TRUST Me... (none / 0)

The delegates will be counted and seated in some fashion.  It WILL HAPPEN.  The DNC will have no choice but to do so.

I suggest we stop worrying about THIS, and focus on McCain.

The delagates will be seated.

the moment hillary drops out, all the delegates will be seated.  it will happen, but perhaps not before she does...

Re: indeed... (none / 0)

Forget winning Florida how many votes did you want to piss away? Are you thinking this is going to be a Democratic landslide?

florida won't go democrat... (none / 0)

anyone who argues that dems need florida to win the white house is deluding themselves.  there is simply too much work for democrats to do in the state, the (southern progressive) democratic party of askew, chiles and mckay was systematically destroyed and there remains a lot of internecine conflict that prevents democrats from winning statewide (unless you're bill nelson).

the cost of winning florida in this cycle is simply too high for any democratic nominee.  florida is a big state, with a very expensive media market, a popular republican governor, and a demoralized and disorganized democratic party in the deciding region -- the i-4 corridor.  let's stop fooling ourselves (and each other) and worry about states that we can actually win.

Re: florida won't go democrat... (none / 0)

I find this argument completely false.  In 2000, the DEM's lost (had the election stolen) by 537 votes, with mediocure turn-out.

With the turn-out we have witnessed in this election cycle, FL is well within the realm of being in play and being able to be taken.  However, with the actions being taken right now by the DNC, FL is out of play and they are just giving FL to the Republicans.

it's grounded in facts... (none / 0)

while your speculation about 2000 is not.  just what about the turnout of 1.7M democrats (a primary record for dems) as opposed to 1.9M republicans gives you hope?

i'm more than willing to concede that barack's nomination will drive up ge turnout, but he'd have to boost it significantly to give himself a chance.  unlike 2000, the governor's machine is fully behind the gop nominee, the democratic party is in more disrepair, and it is still an expensive media market.

democrats have a better chance of winning the state of texas than they do the state of florida in the electoral college...

Lying in the bed one makes for oneself (none / 0)

It's a shame that Florida's elected officials on both sides of the aisle were so negligent with the responsibility of shepherding their primary voters' rights to be heard.

Luckily, democracy provides a convenient method of correcting this problem, come election time.

If Floridans want to make sure that their voices are heard in the next primaries, they need look no further than Governor Crist and their own legislature.

floridians do blame the republican legislature... (none / 0)

for their primary woes.  the attempt by the clinton campaign to lay blame at the feet of obama is thoroughly rejected in the state.  florida democrats have a lot of problems and this doesn't even make the top 10 (i wouldn't even put it in a list of the top 25)...

If the legislature pays dearly for their mismanagement, I will be happy.

Thanks for the info. :)
