NEWS MAX Story

Obama present during during hate america sermon

http://newsmax.com/kessler/Obama_hate_Am erica_sermon/2008/03/16/80870.html

Other interesting points

Oprah quit the church but Obama not...

Obama's most famous celebrity backer, Oprah Winfrey began attending Wright's church in 1984. Last year, Newsmax magazine reported that Winfrey abruptly stopped attending years ago, and suggested that she did so to distance herself from Wright's inflammatory rhetoric. She soon found herself a target of Wright, who excoriated her for having broken with "traditional faith."

This is more Interesting...

Having considered Wright a friend and mentor for two decades, Obama now often mentions that his pastor recently retired. Wright suggested to the New York Times last year that he and Obama might have to do something of a distancing act in the run up to the election.

"If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me," Wright was quoted by The New York Times. "I said it to Barack personally, and he said, `Yeah, that might have to happen.'"

Politics of change I guess....

Re: yeah (none / 0)

That's just foolish.

All week the question has been: "Did Obama lie, when he said that he did not hear these things when he was in church?"

So, now the answer seems to be: Yes.

Indeed, via NewsMax.

Is it true? That's the question. Not who broke the story.

Re: yeah (none / 0)

Not exactly.

Obama has said that he was not in the pews for any of Writght's inflammatory sermons. He stated this without qualification.

So, if it turns out that he was there, he is a liar.

He was a liar about Goolsbee's talk with the Canadians. This would be another instance where he chose a quick lie that could later be proven false. That is a very bad characteristic. Someone so glib with the truth that they get tripped up a few days later. That's what we are dealing with here...

Like I said, we will see. This may be bogus. The media will continue to search. Obama made a big mistake when he said that he had never heard Wright say anything like those comments.  People wonder how that can be true and if that is not true, it will be smoked out.

That wasn't the question I was asking.  I meant what were the horrible hateful comments made by Wright at this sermon?

And now that I read them, I can see why the rightwing nutjobs over at Newsmax might think they were hateful, but personally I agree with them.  Most Democrats and progressives do.  Don't you?

Oh, and Obama said "The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation."  There are all kinds of qualifiers there.

Re: yeah (none / 0)

Oh yes. I do. But then why is Obama "throwing him under the bus." It is a tough one. Truth is, he was made by the media. They puffed him up, infused all their ideals into him, and sold him to America. Now someting comes along that calls for reason and intelligence, but he's already made his deal with the devil. Since he's got no real character except the media superman "hope and change" nonsense, he's got no choice but to throw his long time mentor "under the bus." It's sad, but it is the way it will go from here on out. If they make you they can break you.

Re: yeah (none / 0)

He isn't throwing him under the bus, and the Rev. made that quite clear.  He understand why Obama had to distance himself from him.

And Obama was not a media creation.  He's been his own man his whole life.  There's a consistency in his beliefs, politics, character, and practice that whole time that makes those kind of 'empty suit' smears absolutely pathetic.  Obama was talking about those things and doing them since long before the MSM had any idea he existed.

MediaFreeze:

Here's a link to showing that he was in Miami giving a speech that day.

I also want to tell you that I think you've done a very good job of staying cool during these kinds of frenzies.

In regards to the NewsMax-as-a-source question. I believe that it is appropriate to respond with a great deal of skepticism when confronted by stories sourced (I believe, at this point) only by NewsMax.

The general tone at MyDD in response to "pastor-gate" has been one of a feeding frenzy. This tone has continued in terms of speculation regarding this newer information. Considering the source and the sketchy information, I think the snarky comments about NewsMax are coming from a belief that we should, in general, suspend judgement instead of jumping to the conclusion that Obama must be and always is lying.

Thanks.
