Re: The Michigan Two-Step (none / 0)

No wonder Clinton can't win, she's using polling data from September and October. Oops!

by carbocation on Sun Mar 16, 2008 at 09:17:48 PM EST

That dog won't bark. (2.00 / 2)

Those WERE the last polls that included Obama, right before he pulled out.  After that, none of the polls include him.  Nice try.

No, I saw a poll reported on Politico --
It was 41-41.

Re: That dog won't bark. (2.00 / 1)

Show me. If it's a current poll, then it doesn't count.  We're talking about the polls BEFORE Obama pulled out, which relates to the subject of this diary and the video.

It relates to a trick to dis-enfranchise Michigan voters, so Obama could bypass a loss.

Re: That dog won't bark. (2.00 / 1)

He is referring to a current poll.

BUT the Free Press and NBC local did a poll right before the primary which put a hypothetical, if all the candidates were on the ballot:
"According to the poll, if the other major contenders were to appear in the ballot, Clinton would receive 46% of the vote, Obama would receive 23%, and Edwards would get 13%."

Re: The Michigan Two-Step (2.00 / 5)

What would you do....

...if at the end of your life, your dream is drifting away?

I started out as a Repug (my parents were in the 1950 so that's expected).  But I morphed.  I grew!

My mother-in-law once (well, more than once) paid me a compliment that I'm not sure she understood...they were NYC doctors and I (a Michigan native) was scared to death of them...but she told me that she had never seen ANYONE change and grow as much as me.

I continued the tradition.  I went to DC and marched for pro-choice.  I raised two wonderful children (with my wonderful liberated husband) who will, I hope, carry on our teachings.  I was NEVER anti-AA, anti-semitic (my husband is Jewish) anti-Catholic or anti-Muslim.  I was only anti-greed, anti-war, anti-theoracy, pro-choice, pro-education, pro-universal health care.

And now, I may never see it come to fruitation.

I am a feminist.  I believe that because we have a really qualified female candidate, we MUST vote for her.  I do not believe, for an instant, that a smart, educated black man will fulfill my dreams.

I'm sorry Obamaphiles.  I can't vote for your guy.  I must try to continue to see my dream come true.

To you I'm old.  Over-the-hill.  Out-of-date.

Well tough luck!  I will do any and everything to see my dreams come true.  And to anyone who stands in my way....watch out.

Re: The Michigan Two-Step (none / 0)

I do understand. I'm a 60 year old woman and would love to see a woman president. But I'm not going to make my decision based on that. I have to look at the whole picture.I just don't want the Clintons back in the White House. They're too screwy.

Please...the Clintons are NOT screwy. (2.00 / 1)

Repugs and Obamaphiles make them seem that way.

Please re-think your decision.

Thank you.

Re: Please...the Clintons are NOT screwy. (none / 0)

When people call fellow Democrats names, that makes me think they don't have good arguments for their candidate.

I'm a middle-aged white woman, mother, life long feminist, union member - for Obama.

I don't vote based on a candidate's chromosomes.

Re: Please...the Clintons are NOT screwy. (2.00 / 1)

Plenty of name calling all around, and it would be good if it stopped. But, respectfully, the fact that someone called someone a name is certainly not a sufficient reason to decide anything. I could show you lots of anti-Clinton name calling. The point is, who can win in the fall? I don't think Obama can win. That's why I'm supporting Clinton. You might say this is non-idealistic. It is.

You apparently don't vote based upon your candidate's sound judgment and moral fiber either.

Re: The Michigan Two-Step (2.00 / 2)

I have no idea why you would say the Clintons are screwy.  Bill Clinton was a very good President and Hillary has worked all of her adult life for the good of this country.  I think you have been brain-washed by the Republicans in the 90s and by Obama's re-tread of Republican talking points.  They seem perfectly easy to understand and to support to me.

Becky (none / 0)

If you're married, do you define who you are by who your husband is?  Does the world judge you ONLY as a couple?  Why look at "The Clintons" as one identity.  I used to do that until I shut one eye, stopped focusing on Bill in the picture, and closely examined Hillary as an individual.  I started to like what she had to say, and what she wants to do for this country.  She's intelligent, and she's strong.  I'd put my money on Hill to win any argument with her husband.  I think he has the charm, but she's got the smarts.  Is she her own woman---She's getting a chance to finally do that.  Becoming senator was her first step, and it's been a damn good one.   She's ready, she's able.  Bill can go on permanent vacation as far as I'm concerned.  She's the one I believe in.  Bill who?

Re: The Michigan Two-Step (none / 0)

Hey, god bless you. Everyone has the right to support whatever candidate they choose for whatever reason they choose.

I have my compelling reasons to support Obama.

All I ask is that we stop the trash talk about non issues. This great country has a lot of work ahead to change the Bush era. And only a Democrat can do that.

she is so obviously superior a candidate (2.00 / 4)

that supporting her because she is a woman is only a side benefit.  You can't tell me that Obama's race baiting hasn't had an effect on AA supporters.  He got that support by lying and calling the Clinton's racist.
Clinton got her support the hard way... because being a woman has NOT been an asset.

As someone replied on another blog: How can an African American even consider disenfranchising the votes of anyone? Talk about your historic campaigns. New politics indeed.

maybe why he agreed (2.00 / 3)

to a re-vote there but not Florida.  But time isn't on his side, he needed to wrap it up sooner, before the Tony trial got underway and someone bought Wrght's DVD's.  The good news is that she's the better candidate, by far and he has time to get his act together and work in the Senate for awhile, get some legislation under his belt.

Re: maybe why he agreed (none / 0)

More time in the Senate doesn't improve a candidate. There hasn't been a Senator elected from there to the White House since 1960 -- 48 years ago.

Re: maybe why he agreed (none / 0)

In the words of Mitt Romney, Michigan is on the verge of/in a "one-state recession."  NAFTA-gate isn't going to play well with voters who've lost their job, just as a "virtually universal" health care plan isn't going to cut it for the families without health care.

Let's have a DEMOCRATIC primary, in which Michigan DEMOCRATS vote.

Re: The Michigan Two-Step (none / 0)

That was hilarious! I've rarely seen such warped reasoning. Obama and Edwards were trying to screw the voters of Michigan by removing their names. Only Hillary cared. So we should ...... what? Let Hillary win the state with only her name on the ballot. Somebody went to a lot of work for a ridiculous cause. Give up - that will never happen in the United States.

Re: The Michigan Two-Step (none / 0)

I spoke to three people this week who were ambivalent about the race until they heard Hillary on NPR talking about Michigan. Each one is now for Obama. One even called her a sociopath.

She's been called everything negative under the sun.

Why should this one be more credible than any of the other slams against her?  Blinders, anyone?
