Clinton Picks Armisen to Replace Obama on Dream Team

Reliable as always, Hillary Clinton has come up with a Solution to the crisis of finding another running mate after Barack Obama turned down the job.  Rumor has it that Fred Armisen of Saturday Night Live has agreed to play Clinton's proposed Vice President at the Democratic Convention in Denver this August.

The crisis arose yesterday when Barack Obama reminded the Clintons that, notwithstanding last week's results in Ohio, he is still the front-runner by a long distance as calculated in states won, votes cast or delegates pledged.  Furthermore, he informed his opponent that he was not available to be her running mate in 2008, as he had made  plans to star in his own series this Fall.  It is not clear how Clinton intends to overcome the vote and delegate hurdles, but at least she has a running mate if she succeeds.

What a difference a day makes.

Just last week Hillary Clinton confidently implied she would be the Democratic nominee for President and pick Barack Obama as her VP running mate.  Bill Clinton even described the pairing as "unstoppable".  The Clintons had good reasons to be optimistic.  Hillary had just won the popular vote in the Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island primaries.  And in a victory for feminists everywhere, she also demanded and received the head of Samantha Power, Barack Obama's most prominent female supporter, on a platter for calling her the M word.

That was then, and this is now.  First, Hillary's crisis management creds took a hit when Lord Trimble, who earned a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in Northern Ireland, described Hillary as a "cheerleader" to Bill Clinton.  He also said her claim to an intsrumental role in the peace process there "a wee bit silly."  But the most shocking revelation came from Sinbad, the comedian, who spilled the beans on Hillary's 1996 peace mission to Bosnia.  Turns out they, along with Sheryl Crow, were on a USO tour, and the most important challenge they faced was finding a place to eat.  Sinbad did not reveal how well the First Lady entertained the troops, but some of the soldiers in the audience have said off-the-record that she definitively should not, repeat, not try out for Dancing With the Stars.

When asked if Fred Armisen was ready to become VP, Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said that while he had not yet met the national security threshold, it may be possible for him to do so by August.  Furthermore, he expects there is little danger that Fred will upstage the former First Lady, having seen his impersonation of Barack Obama Who Never Smiles on SNL.

Unnamed Clinton supporters on SNL were elated with the choice of Fred Armisen and are hoping he will actually be elected.  They believe it will be far easier to find someone to impersonate Fred than it has been to find a credible Obama-impersonator.  In the meantime, it looks like this Saturday Seth Myers and Kristen Wig will be playing Client 9 and Kristen in the first SNL episode of "Superdelegates Gone Wild".

I tried pills and they did help. This feeble (none / 0)

attempt at humor is my only relief from the depression brought on by the Mutually Assured Destruction strategy of the Democrats.

Re: I tried pills and they did help. This feeble (none / 0)

LOL, you mean if I take enough pills this diary will be funny?

...Just kidding. Hey, if writing this made you feel better, it was worth it. This primary season is definitely getting depressing -- for most of us. I'm becoming increasingly concerned that the Dems won't win the GE this time around. Maybe I'm just being a downer, but I have a bad feeling about it.

Everyone who's depressed should probably stay away from blogs. They make the tensions seem so much worse. Surely Obama supporters and Hillary supporters don't despise each other (and the other candidate) this much in real life... At least, I certainly hope not. I need to take a hiatus, but my Internet habit is compulsive.
