Hillary picks the Constitution, and other news.

This week Bill Moyers reports what books the presidential candidates say they would bring with them to the White House.  I love Hillary's answer, the Constitution.  Not only is it a thoughtful response, but I get the sense she means it.

Here are the candidate answers:

SEN. JOHN MCCAIN: WEALTH OF NATIONS by Adam Smith because we may be entering some pretty shaky economic times.

SEN. BARACK OBAMA: Doris Kearns Goodwin's book TEAM OF RIVALS. It was a biography of Lincoln, and he was confident enough to be willing to have these dissenting voices.

MIKE HUCKABEE: There's a great book by Francis Schaeffer that had a real influence on me, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE? And it talks about the dignity and worth of each individual.

SEN. HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON: I would certainly bring a--my copy of the Constitution because there apparently was not a copy in the Bush White House the best I can determine. So I would bring THE FEDERALIST PAPERS.

MITT ROMNEY: JOHN ADAMS by David McCullough. A truly great leader who made a difference for America, and his example is one I'd want to follow.

Also, Obama supporter and progressive radio personality, Cenk Unger offers some surprising praise of Hillary's campaigning.  I disagree with Uygur on two points, lobbyist(whom also work on the Obama campaign), and inspiration(Hillary inspires me, and I know lot's of people who feel the same way), but this is pretty nice commentary.

Finally, Hillary spoke with Tavis Smiley this week about the challenges of running as the first female front runner in a presidential primary. I really like what she has to say. She talks about how a female candidate doesn't fit the male model we are accustomed to and everyone is still sort of figuring out this new model.

I love that she takes it to the Repugs every chance she gets.  :-)

Did you see the head line of the washington post , it says obama/clinton tied but when you read the piece she is leading him 47 - 43 by 4 points and the headline says they are tied lol.

Re: Hillary picks the Constitution, and other news (2.00 / 1)

She actually picked up support from their last poll which was 41 - 39 in her favor.

These guys are really comedians.

Re: Hillary picks the Constitution, and other news (none / 0)

That is a statistical tie, within the margin of eror

But okay, maybe you would have preferred a headline that "Clinton ahead by statistically insignificant margin"?

Re: Hillary picks the Constitution, and other news (none / 0)

Oh please, there were plenty of statistical ties reported as Obama leads in early states the last few months.

Good point. But that would require integrity and we are talking about WaPo.

Re: Hillary picks the Constitution, and other news (none / 0)

"Actually reality" requires knowing how polls work and what a tie means in terms of polling, which is something you clearly don't understand.

Re: Hillary picks the Constitution, and other news (2.00 / 3)

So now Obama has likened himself to JFK, MLK, Reagan and Lincoln??!! Man, he certainly does think a great deal of himself.

Also, RFK, FDR, and Jesus.  Oh wait, that last one was just his supporters.  ;)  Kidding.

Re: Hillary picks the Constitution, and other news (2.00 / 1)

Have you noticed that the Kennedy family is comparing Obama to JKF and RFK?   But I guess they really don't know what they are talking about.

YES WE CAN.

Who cares? (2.00 / 1)

JFK, quite frankly, was nothing like Obama.  And RFK Jr compares Hill to his dad.  But really who cares?

Re: Who cares? (2.00 / 1)

Obama is like JFK with his people-powered politics. Compare "Ask what you can do for your country" to "Yes we can."

RFK's widow says Obama reminds her of RFK, do you think anyone gets more of a say than that?

Re: Who cares? (2.00 / 1)

I'd say the son because he's so much like his father.  But, really, JKF ran as a strong Democrat because he knew there were more Dem's than Repub's in the country.  He was immersed in politics his entire life, and he loved politics.  He was a tough politician who knew how to broker deals in smoke filled rooms.  Further, he was in Congress 14 years before he became President.  Obama is no JFK, and I dont care what past the Kennedy's want to relive.

Re: Who cares? (none / 0)

You're seriously suggesting that a son knows a man better than his wife does? You're welcome to justify it to yourself any way you want, it's just that it doesn't sound very convincing to someone like me.

Kennedy ran saying that we had run behind the Soviet Union and that he would get us moving again. Nixon was claiming at the time that Kennedy was too young and inexperienced for the job.

Kennedy was a member of the House for 6 years and the Senate for 6, vs Obama who was a member of the state senate for 8 years and the national senate for 4 now.

If you could give me some examples of his "smoke-filled room deals" -- before he he became president, to make it a fair comparison -- then go ahead.

Oh, and please read more about the 1960 election, it wasn't exactly a rosy, landslide year for the democrats like it seems that you think it is. His presidency wasn't exactly flawless either, and you seem to be thinking of him in an uneven light.

Re: Who cares? (none / 0)

I don't give a crap.  I think Obama is nothing like JFK, as any reading of history will tell you, and he is even less like RFK.  Are you seriosuly comparing Hillary to Nixon?  LOL.

Re: Who cares? (none / 0)

Well, I'll give you that Obama has JFK's speech writer, because he does. So, to the degree that words make a man, Obama is made in the likeness of JFK. But, we've had 7 years of a talker who does nothing that he says...I'll go with someone who gets more good done than she even says she will.

Hillary has been making positive change for children , minorities, and the poor for decades -- quietly, and with determination.
