Once upon a time, there was a candidate for President named George W. Bush. He looked good on TV, and he had a wonderful tag-line: Compassionate Conservatism.
The tag-line said "Jesus and low taxes" to the voters, and that was all they wanted to know.
George W. Bush looked much better on TV than the awkward, detail-oriented Clintonian candidate who ran against him. The awkward, detail-oriented Clintonian candidate was obviously worried about all sorts of problems, and worried-looking people look bad on TV.
George W. Bush wasn't worried about anything.
On TV, problems just go away. Problems go away because someone who looks good on TV makes them go away.
Taxes are a problem. George W. Bush looks good on TV. He will make the taxes go away.
The details didn't matter. Details don't even exist on TV.
And now...
Barack Obama looks good on TV. He looks much better on TV than the awkward, detail-oriented Clintonian candidate who is running against him. Barack has a wonderful tag-line: Yes We Can!
The tag-line says "hope" to the voters. That's all they want to know. The details don't matter. Our problems will go away.
Barack Obama isn't worried about anything.
