Barack Obama Gets Another Endorsement

Not an outright endorsement, but controversial Nation of Islam head Louis Farrakhan just heaped lavish praise upon Barack Obama while addressing a crowd of about 20,000.  Most of his two hour speech focused on Barack Obama:

"This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better," he said. "This young man is capturing audiences of black and brown and red and yellow. If you look at Barack Obama's audiences and look at the effect of his words, those people are being transformed."

Farrakhan also compared Obama to the Nation of Islam's founder, Fard Muhammad who is believed by some to have also had a white mother and black father:

"A black man with a white mother became a savior to us ... A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall."

Does it matter? (2.00 / 3)

I believe that Ann Coulter has endorsed Clinton (as being supposedly more conservative than McCain), and Rudolph Murdoch has held a fundraiser for Clinton.

John McCain

Re: Does it matter? (none / 0)

Heh. Yes, and that was very upsetting for us Clinton supporters to hear. Coulter's pseudo-endorsement probably did more damage to Hillary's campaign than Mark Penn.
Even John McCain lusts after teh engels.

I think many are thinking similar thoughts (2.00 / 0)

I'm not sure why somebody deserves such good will and support simply because he had parents of different races.  People have no control over their parentage.

Hey Nancy, can you tell me how you think Hillary's defense of a pedophilic child-rapist will play, especially the part where she attacked the honesty and character of the 12 year old victim: (see the Newsday story)

Re: Barack Obama Gets Another Endorsement (none / 0)

How will this play for King Obama in middle america?

Questioning his patriotism:

1.his church has a "non-negotiable commitment to africa"

2.he chose not to wear the american flag pin

3. he doesn't cover his heart during the national anthem

4. his wife's comments about not being proud of american in her adult life.

at face value, this doesn't look like a very patriotic nominee.  to run for president, you have to prove you would die for this country.  this is why the american public has always loved war heros as presidents.

now each of these can be explained, but obama is gonna have to do it soon because when the GOP/press bring these issues to middle america, it will scare them into voting mccain.

It is too late for him to 'explain' it. This is just the beginning of the end for him, especially with the MSM now questioning his patriotism.

you hope. This smears have been around for a long time, making them public is the best way to debunk them. Some stuff just doesn't survive the sunlight.

BS (none / 0)

You're full of crap and I'm sick of watching Hillary supporters throw discredited right-wing talking points as concern troll posts. You know damn well that Obama has no "patriotism problem" and that these crap stories about the pledge of allegiance and flag pins were ginned up by the child molester wing of the GOP. Obama is not going to sit and have these McCarthyites throw this pond scum at him. Hell, Hillary supporters have already seen - to their disma - that Obama is no lamb.

And what the hell does this mean:

"At face value, this doesn't look like a very patriotic nominee."  It sounds damn near the sort of crypto-racism that Rethuglicans will certainly throw at Obama in the general election.  Cut this crap out. I live in East Tennessee - as Middle America as you can get. And while I know many people are too racist or just too outright Republican to vote for Obama I also know that once he campaigns down here he'll convince a lot of middle America that he's as American as you can get.

Re: Barack Obama Gets Another Endorsement (1.50 / 2)

Its hard to believe that this is true.  Talk about being damned by praise.  If Farrakhan did actually lavish him with compliments and near-endorsement, in addition to some general concerns, the practical story may have to do with another longtime segment of Democratic support.  Check with the Jewish community and their various reactions to Farrakhan.

Re: Barack Obama Gets Another Endorsement (none / 0)

"Its hard to believe that this is true."

Unfortunately it is true, and there is a long history of association with Farrakhan through Obama's church. It has certainly turned off a number of Obama's supporters who have come over to the Clinton camp. They have spoken about that being their reason for their switch, Farrakhan is simply unacceptable to them. All of the people who spoke of this to me (independently of each other, so it appeared to be more than isolated gossip) have been people of color, who found his racism unacceptable, and they did not want to be associated with a group that tolerated that kind of ugliness.

There is a real problem with the documented anti semitism that Farrakhan has spewed in the past, and this could threaten a real division in the Democratic Party.

Politicians cannot control whether they are praised or damned by others, be they Ann Coulter or Louis Farrakhan, so I am loathe to make any judgments about such events, but I do need to worry when there may be a more substantial association with questionable players, and I would really like to know more about this relationship, since others I have met seem to know far more about it than I do, and fled the scene.

I believe it would be well worth Obama's time to clarify his relationship with Louis Farrakhan and his brand of hate speech. If he can unequivocally reassure people about this he should. It is the kind of thing that could follow him for a very long time if he does not put it to rest. I am concerned that the rumblings about it are getting louder, not dissipating. It could provide some very virulent fodder for the Republicans, who will jump on anything they can find about this. They will do "guilt by association" to scare voters off.

While I do not support Obama, and have extremely strong objections to his stand on health care, my main issue, I do not want to see him unfairly and viciously harmed, the way the Clintons have been, by the right wing.

Re: Barack Obama Gets Another Endorsement (none / 0)

Excuse me.  I looked at the link to Yahoo news.  It is entitled "Farrakhan Sings Obama's Praises." There are some endorsements and near-endorsements --and this is one--that would play very much into the theme the Republicans are trying to create.

The Democratic Party is delivering this election right in to the Republican's arms.  Obama '88!
