The Peace symbol, which has been not seen enough lately turned fifty on February 21st.

Originally made from the semaphore symbols for N and D for nuclear disarmament the peace symbol has come to represent all those working for, dreaming of, aching for and desperately needing peace.

"Blessed are the peacemakers."

And a reminder part of what is at stake this election.

"There will be more wars."

Another important quote (none / 0)

"we need to prepare for the next war"

Hillary Clinton, in defense of her vote for Kyl-Lieberman

Utter lies and bullshit. I know you can do better than that.

Here's a link to her actual speech which you misquoted and mis-attributed. Who cares about facts when you're sliming Hillary Clinton, right?

Kyl-Lieberman has nothing to do with going to war. If you think it does, why not attack Obama's campaign co-chair Dick Durbin for voting for it? This isn't really about the bill anyway...

Her VFW remarks with respect to the "new war" not the "next war" meant that it had to diverge from the "old war" inherent in Iraq: the ill-conceived, ill-planned for (albeit with tactical successes too little and too late) war of first resort. The new war would be a war of last resort, if such a time came. It was pretty gutsy for her to say these things in front of a crowd that was absolutely dead set on staying in Iraq until we "win."

Re: Another important quote (none / 0)

Thanks for the link. You're right that the quote has a somewhat different connotation.

The fact remains, though, that when it comes to foreign policy, there seem to be Feingold Democrats and Lieberman Democrats. Obama is the former (based on his votes and on Feingold's endorsement) and Clinton is the latter.

I side with the former.

On Dick Durbin... he isn't running for President. And if he were, I would have serious concerns about his foreign policy judgment.

All I'm seeing from you is artifice. You still won't admit to the fact that you just made up a quote and attributed it to her for something that had nothing to do with the speech in which it was uttered.

Re: Another important quote (none / 0)

Fine, fine fine. You want an admission? I misquoted. I picked up a quote I remembered from long ago and made a mistake in the context. Sorry.

The fact remains that foreign policy is one of the areas where there are marked differences between the candidates. And I believe that foreign policy is basically THE most important area for the next prez... certainly more important than healthcare or the economy. And close to a draw with the environment. (Longer analysis here that I'll leave out for the time being.)

So, if we're going to wrestle over who would be the best prez, let's do it on real policy differences. How to handle the middle-east is definitely one.

Re: Another important quote (none / 0)

I have to disagree that foreign policy trumps domestic issues going forward. We've had about 6 years of that and our human and physical infrastructure has been going to pieces. Crucial water projects alone will potentially cost $22 billion over the next ten years, moreover we're going to see a massive restructuring of government whether we like it or not.

I'm happy to advocate for Hillary on foreign policy. She has called for regional and international diplomacy for many, many years; but she is also mindful of the fact that the Iranian people are oppressed by an unrepresentative government that has directly or indirectly led to unnecessary casualties of our troops in Iraq. They're also confirmed to have bombed areas of Northern Iraq. Kyl-Lieberman was a sense of the Senate that said basically that the Iranian government and specifically the Quds force has had a negative influence on an already dire situation, and that we should take non-combat actions to punish them.

It's fair and proper to have an interest in reaching out to bad actors with carrots and sticks while also making certain, as she has on numerous occasions, that the president knows he has no authority whatsoever to attack Iran.
