RIP Rep Tom Lantos (D-CA)

California Representative Tom Lantos, who was the only holocaust survivor to serve in the US congress, died today.  He was always a strong advocate for peace, and upholding the constitution, and countless other progressive causes, and will be missed greatly by this community.  Our thoughts should go out to his family and his congressional district, which has lost a great leader.

Wasn't he under a primary challenge, and stepped down?

he decided to forego running for reelection due to his devastating esophageal cancer.  I'm unaware of any primary challenge.

That's sad news.  Condolences to his family.

He was a great representative for his district and for this country and will be remembered for his amazing dignity and courage. Whoever takes his seat in Congress is going to have some pretty big shoes to fill from where I am sitting.

My heart goes out to his family.

I'm so sorry to hear that.  I was raised in his district.  My family was often at odds with his cold war stance, but supportive of his domestic agenda.  He will be missed.
