Acting Erratically Is The One Thing John McCain Does Consistently

So, call me crazy but if the number one criticism about you is that you act erratically and it's sticking because, well, you're undeniably acting erratically, wouldn't it be wise to stop? To start acting with purpose, with some modicum of discipline? Wouldn't that just be Politics 101?

Not so much for the McCain campaign. Here's TPM's rundown over the past couple days:

Despite a top surrogate's suggestion over the weekend that McCain would be unveiling new economic proposals, we  learned this morning  that in fact John McCain wasn't planning to announce anything of this kind today.

Now it turns out the whole plan all along was for McCain to offer new proposals. Tomorrow, that is.

That's what the McCain campaign just announced on a conference call with reporters moments ago, a few hours -- coincidentally, we're sure -- after Obama made headlines with proposals of his own.

It was just yesterday, mind you, that McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds insisted that no new plans were forthcoming.

No wonder then that the right wing is in full meltdown mode over the inept handling of John McCain's campaign.

This is your schadenfreude break for the day:

Man, I want to read the book inside this campaign (2.00 / 1)

It must be just unbelievable inside this campaign...they can't stay on course for more then about 6 hours?

Who is in charge? McCain? Schmidt? Davis?

It's like a tape loop of a car wreck!

Can you imagine this crew actually TRYING to run the country like this?

an erratic candidate, a VP candidate (none / 0)

that creates a bunch of stories that take the campaign off message and the GOP had a tough hand to play.

The McCain campaign tried to stay on message.

When this didn't work they tweaked and changed the message. This resulted in taking hits for changing the message.

inevitable (2.00 / 1)

The Cause is never wrong. On November 5, the GOP talking heads will savage the fallen candidate, different factions proclaiming that the message was wrong, or that the delivery was faulty, or that it was the wrong messenger.

And in the next breath they will all bellow: WE WUZ ROBBED!

Re: Acting Erratically Is The One Thing John McCai (none / 0)

Man, did Obama gazump McCain on domestic economic policy today or what?  Talk about perfect timing.  By taking the risk of putting concrete policy into the public debate at this juncture Obama's campaign is demonstrating confidence and willingness to move into post-electoral policy with a strong mandate for these proposals.  And with Pelosi hinting at a lame-duck session to implement them, even with a narrow Democratic majority in the Senate, I am increasingly convinced that a sizable amount of Obama's 'brain trust' is already turning to issues of governance.  And Democrats, bless 'em, don't seem inclined to wait for the inauguration to get down to business.

This is not a candidate who is willing to just run out the clock, he already has one eye on his responsibilities as a leader and the verdict of history.

schadenfreude or pity? (2.00 / 2)

Research has shown that feelings of schadenfreude are more common in those with low self esteem compared to those with high self esteem:

Having said that, it's good to see the bastards going down in flames and eating their own.
