Obama Not the Only One Taking Hits Five Weeks Out

Jerome is correct in writing that we are not far off from seeing some pretty tough hits on Barack Obama, whether from right wing groups or the McCain campaign/RNC, but it looks like Obama won't be the only one sustaining some shots between now and election day. Take a look at these spots now going up on air:

Planned Parenthood

Campaign Money Watch

California Nurses Association

Looking at these advertisements -- the fact that they are hitting the McCain-Palin ticket from multiple angles, and aren't pulling punches -- it would be difficult to say that groups on the left aren't taking this race seriously. And with indications that the favorable ratings of both John McCain and Sarah Palin have slipped noticeably in the past two weeks, it's probably not a bad idea to keep the pressure on over the next 34 days so that even as the McCain campaign tries to drag down Obama's numbers through tough negative hits the Republicans' numbers won't have much chance of moving up at the same time.

Planned Parenthood ad is excellent (2.00 / 1)

I think the majority of Americans find the idea of billing women for their rape kit exam to be a form of abuse. It is simply horrific. Yet McCain and Palin both did just that. This ad is very effective and will cost that ticket plenty of votes from outraged men and women.

They chose this battle field (none / 0)

Now, we fight on it, and win.

Great ad, the Palin Rape Kit one IS as you say, simply Horrifying to woman.

Its the RR thing, that a man can't be blamed for it, it's all about the temptress evil women.

James Dobson is on record saying a husband can't rape a wife, it's not possible, from a biblical sense.

We need to drive those people back into the 17th century from whence they came.

And, they thought  Palin was a substitute for Senator Hillary Clinton!  Insane....

Agreed. Music is insipid, the voiceover doesn't make the ad's point, and the real point of the ad is in texts which flash by too quickly to read. Amateurish in the extreme. Why do Democrats in my state suck so badly?

The Planned Parenthood ad could be the most effective ad in a long time if it gets widely circulated.

Hopefully, Planned Parenthood gets wise to presidential politics. They don't need a huge ad buy. Just get cheap 2AM air time in small-town stations in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida where it is cheap. Then release a statement to the press saying "We're running this ad in the battleground states of..."

If the trend holds, the news media will cover the story and show the ad (almost in its entirety) while asking the surrogates of McCain and Obama about it.

CA Nurses ad (none / 0)

That CA Nurses ad is the worst ad I have ever seen.
Dumb music, message spread by text and horrible pictures.

These are the big money spots (none / 0)

But there are some great spots bubbling up on the web from indie filmmakers and activists too.

It started with ObamaGirl but there's been so many others since then.

Like this dumb/brilliant little spot which I loved:

All power to Planned Parenthood and the Nurses Association for doing what they're doing, but it's the independent voices -- not just the filmmakers but the musicians, and the door-to-door canvassers, and the bloggers (and the blog commenters!) -- that have me excited about this election.

Shum;

If you had anything to do with that CaNA ad, please call Dan and Kelli and ask them to kick you in the nuts.

Thanks;
