An email from RedState

I am a Redstate subscriber, although I have never posted there.  I get your occasional email, which lend joy to my humdrum and workaday existence.

Here's an example of why:

Dear RedState Reader:

I have, as they say, some good news and some bad news.

Hmmmm..... they are polite, one of those conservative values.

(Short version:  We need you to open your wallet and give what you can to build RedState 3.0.  Go here to help.  We need the money ASAP.)

The good news first: RedState.com is about to embark on a major upgrade of our website that will make it easier, more informative, and just plain more fun for you to visit.

The bad news: our liberal "friends" - you know, the ones who believe so strongly in free speech and open debate - have done what they can to prevent us from making these improvements, so that our influence will be minimized just as we head into the 2008 presidential primary season.

OH MY GOD!!! We are powerful, beyond our wildest dreams....

No, our Blue State buddies haven't succeeded in stopping us from improving our website. But they've made it more difficult and more expensive - which is why I'm coming to you for help.

Ah, shoot....

You see, when we started RedState in May of 2004, we used a website program called Scoop -- the same program a lot of similar sites on the left used. But, as the number of visitors to our site grew, Scoop kept crashing on us.

No doubt a liberal conspiracy....

If we'd been a liberal website, we would have been able to fix the problem quickly and relatively cheaply.  The online left loves Scoop. Unfortunately, there weren't really any conservative Scoop developers out there to help us.  We kept crashing and were out of money.  We had to close down or take drastic action.

Wow.  Simply WOW.  WOW !!!! DOUBLE-SCOOP WOW.

They are admitting that they are too stupid to run their own site.  I've always believed that conservatives are too stupid to go potty without making a mess, but never expected them to admit this AND beg for money at the same time.

"Open-source" means that you need to be clever, resourceful and figger it out for yourself.  That's what LaTeX is, and anyone who uses that writes various programs to do stuff with it.

The right-wing is too stupid to maintain their own site without leftist code monkeys.

I hope that you find this as hysterically amazing as do I.

No problemo, Eric the editor - consider it DONE

That's pretty funny.  In related news, the Left is trying to stop me from owning a car by virtue of the fact that no one on the Left has given me a car - therefore, it is the duty of all good conservatives to pitch in and buy me a car.

They seem to be unaware of the ad model (none / 0)

Odd, indeed.  I give some money to sites I like but not because they admit to fundamental incompetence.

You left out the best part, where they blame scoop. So do I!

Yeah, but I left in the good part, where they blame "weren't really any conservative Scoop developers".

Can't they figger stuff out?

Re: An email from RedState (none / 0)

The final call to action:

I'll be blunt: I hate asking you for money. But I hate even more to imagine what America will be like if someone like Hillary Clinton or Barack Hussein Obama wins the presidency in November. RedState can help prevent that nightmare from coming true - but only if we're offering the best possible web experience to the widest possible audience.

the right thing to do would be (none / 0)

I don't either, but opensource (none / 0)

means that you are responsible for doing more than running an installshield.  You have to read manuals, and actually do stuff.  I work with 1 opensource product (latex) and do things, and have to figger stuff out.

Re: An email from RedState (none / 0)

kos offered to help, Erick the Redstate refused. A programmer familiar with Erick's website told him he was stoopid to run it in "debug" mode, and since it hadn't been updated in some time it was vulnerable to hackers. The programmer was promtly banned.

The $$ thread is actually quite amusing. Oh and after 2 days he's raised $5500 of the requested $25,000. That alone is humorous.

Classic Republican Fiscal Conservatism at RedState (none / 0)

Spend it even when ya ain't got it:

"So we've decided to move ahead with our upgrades without delay, and despite not having the cash on hand - hoping and praying that RedState.com readers like you will help us make up the shortfall with a generous donation."

Just like their puppet masters in the GOP.

And never mind the fact that they are owned by Eagle and Regenry, raking in a little over 8 million in sales in 2006... Corporations expecting to be subsidized by Joe and Suzy Sixpack? The Ultimate in wingnut welfare! And they are lying about Liberals trying to stop them if Kos was telling the truth.

adsf (none / 0)

also man, they can use Drupal they just have to customize it to handle the load.

There are many, many conservative geeks out there.  I know because H-1B is a bi-partisan issue and lord help us if we move into other issue territory when trying to build up bi-partisan support.

So clearly conservative geeks just think Redstate is a bunch of hooey or they would help out.
