Down to McCain and Huckabee

So now there are two.  Strange as that sounds Romney is done.  You will probably look at national polls and say that Romney is doing well, but the truth is that he is no Natural Constituency on Super Tuesday, none at all.

I will explain:  For the Republicans, there are two regions, McCainworld and Huckabeeland.  McCainworld consists of New York, California, other NE states and probably all of the Southwest.  Huckabeeland consists of the southern Atlantic and deep south, with pockets of the middle of the nation thrown in.

This race is not over, but the edge has to go towards McCain.  However, Huckabee will win as many as eight states, maybe more, and collect many delegates, ensuring McCain will have to keep fighting, and if it becomes a one on one with Huckabee, The Governor's personality has a chance, a small one, to put him over the top.  On the whole though,  I am sticking with my prediction that I made that caused many of you to chuckle at me, John McCain will win the Republican nomination.

This makes what the Democrats do even more pivotal, for we Democrats have to decide who can beat this man, and carry us to big majorities in Congress.  I will not use this diary to "electioneer", as my Grandma puts it, rather to put forth the idea that we Democrats/Progressives must come to a point where we put down our swords of division and light our candles of hope.  To that end, here are the websites of the top three contenders for our nomination:  http://www.johnedwards.com/splash/ http://hillaryclinton.com/ and http://www.barackobama.com/  Look, learn, and unite.  Get all of the information you need and do what is in your heart.  And of course, thank you for participating in bettering our country.

hmmmmnnn interesting theory.  You might be right, but doesn't Huck need some money?

ABO... Anybody but Obama. I LIKE the democratic party.

Re: Down to McCain and Huckabee (none / 0)

Actually Tim Russert pointed out Huckabee is just staying in to split the religious vote with Romney by "dangling the VP spot in front of him"

Looks like McCain/Huckabee is going to be the ticket.

And might I add, yet another reason for, despite everything, a Clinton/Obama ticket.

Re: Down to McCain and Huckabee (none / 0)

just wanted to add my 2 cents in on obama as vp.  newbie urge i guess.  ha.

part of me says that it would be wise for obama to accept a vp if hillary won the nomination and offered it.  simply put, he wouldn't have to be the usual attack dog, because bill can fill that role.  he can continue with the keep shining, keep smiling routine (i say this in jest ... it's a good campaign tactic, i just think it's the wrong time and wrong place for it).

the other part of me says it would be dumb for him to accept vp.  if hillary goes two terms, can he really overcome 16 years of clintons?  i mean, that'll be hard to do.  say what you want about the clintons, but if hillary goes two terms, then the clinton legacy will be long and cast huge shadows.  he might be better off going back, running for governor, improving his weakness right now, and looking down the line.

the last parts of me want to focus on the hillary side.

part of me says she can't look left.  she'll already engender enough anger from the conservative base.  giving them an extra reason, extra motivation to come out would be poor.  i think john edwards makes a fine vp candidate in general, but i don't think it works here.  thus part of me thinks she needs to look to the middle.  she already runs a progressive campaign.  it's not edwards, for sure, but it's not the middle ground some claim.  but i don't think she can look obama.  webb sounds nice, mark warner would be nice.

the other part of me says she has to look left.  this is about the future of our country, and more importantly, the future of the democratic party. we need something to stake onto, and years of going towards the middle only muddies the picture.  staking a strong progressive flag would be risky, but would give a rallying point.

so, this was much ado about nothing, just me putting my 2 cents in.

Re: Down to McCain and Huckabee (none / 0)

It's the silver medal strategy for Romney.  If he can come in 2nd in both McCainworld AND Huckabeeland, he could end up with enough delegates to win.  Seems like a long shot, though.  I think he really needed these from FL.

There are too many winner-take-all states in the GOP primaries for that to happen.
