Is the Huffington Post Biased?

Is it just me or does the Huffington Post seem awfully skewed lately towards Obama? One quick look through their politics page mentions 2 Clinton and 1 Edwards new pieces.  At the same time there are 9 headlines concerning Obama, mostly effusing with praise. For instance...look at the main page of the Huffington Post and the politics page of the Post and you see these two headlines.

JFK........RFK........BARACK OBAMA
Teddy Echoes JFK: "The World Is Changing...The Old Ways Will Not Do"

The rest of the Politics Page has this to say:

Read Obama Camp Memo On State Of The Race
Sharpton On Bill Clinton: "It's Time For Him To Just Be Quiet"
Obama Takes Big Risk On Driver's Licenses For Illegals
Obama Takes Lead In Hispanic-Heavy Colorado
Kurtz: Media's Got A (Huge) Crush On Obama
Off The Bus >> Obama Campaign Pursues California Delegates
Obama's Stump Lines Echo Malcolm X
Highest-Ranking Latino In US House Endorses Obama

Memo to the Huffington Post:

...there are still 3 candidates in the race. I know you've been enamoured with Obama for some time, but your Politics page used to be saved for the most momentous items in politics that day. Your main page used to feature the biggest news story of the day. Obama endorsements and a Senator calling Obama `Kennedyesque', isn't the biggest news.  In fact, it's barely news considering all that's going on out there. Where is one mention of the FISA fight?  And if you don't want to feature news, where are the articles for the other candidates? Oh Huffington Post, you used to be such a great site......and then you blew it on your love for Obama.

Are you kidding me, they've been carrying a torch of Obama and attacking Clinton for months. Arianna probably thinks she's more likely to have a salon if Obama wins.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (2.00 / 2)

They used to be for Edwards but it seems they switched to Obama.  They are pretty much anti-Hillary- Arianna has pretty much said she doesn't like her- but they do feature a pro-Clinton piece now and then.

Look, this is what we are up against, Clinton folks.  Obama has had all these media stories willing and waiting to push today- stories about the grannies who heard Caroline's speech and decided to vote for him to "pass the torch"- the ones about the women in Clinton's campaign, angry about the racist remarks, deciding to go for Obama (which is a re-tread of the pre-Iowa one of the woman tired of Hillary's 'negative attacks' and going for Obama- hey, it worked once, why not again?)  It's probably all bullcrap but people will buy it- Hillary really needs to make a splash tomorrow to blunt him but he's heading to Florida too and I have a feeling he's got a scheme of his own up his sleeves for tomorrow night.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (none / 0)

Why is he heading there. It is an interesting conundrum since a bunch of pro Obama hacks were claiming she was breaking the rules this morning by going tomorrow night. If she has a blowout it's actually going to assist her I would have thought by giving it incrased visibility.

Arianna Huffington is a well known Clinton hater. She was a right winger during the 90s and swung to the left during the Bush years, but her animosity towards the Clintons has persisted.

That's what I thought. At least though they used to give the perception that they had some balance. I can't look over at the site anymore. I usually only click on it out of bad habit.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (2.00 / 0)

Agree - very anti-Hillary.  Sometimes if you look real hard you can find a pro-Hillary opinion piece, but not very often.  I always psych myself up when I click to that pag bcasue I know I'm going to see something like the headline today.

By the way, I hope that headline has a backlash.  My first thought was 'What has Obama actually done that puts him in the same league with JFK and RFK?'  Puh-lease.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (2.00 / 1)

LOL. Exactly, nothing. It's kind of amazing to me that people think he's Kennedyesque.

But I always hope that like when I used to read the Huffington Post, waaaaaaay back when they started, that I would get some interesting news pieces or some political news I hadn't ehard about yet. It's developed into a rag though as of late.

Is the sky blue?  Is water wet?  Does hell not freeze over and do pigs not fly?

Heck, yes, Huffpo is biased.  But, they are not the only ones in Obama's pocket.  We could discuss scores of rags, pundits and outlets.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (none / 0)

It has really become a pathetic shill for the Obama campaign. I remember going to the site just after Hillary's win in New Hampshire just to see what a pro-Obama, anti Hillary site would look like. They actually had a headline saying something like: Hillary won women, Obama won Men. This is the biggest political upset in some time and that's how they spin it. Pathetic.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (none / 0)

Absolutely.  In fact, the mood seems not merely pro-Obama but anti-Hillary.  I hate women who hate other women.

i completely agree. in numbers most women support Hillary, but among upper class liberal women there is a visceral, sexist dislike of Hillary. I don't know if they see her as the peer who succeeded or what...but...it's very nasty.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (2.00 / 1)

In a word: YES. They have been blatantly pushing Obama all along. I'm glad you noticed. Another shill for Obama is now Talking Points Memo, which is beginning to look just like HuffPo in style AND substance. Josh Marshall has been sucked into the vortex of corporate media shilling.

He recently EVEN USED THAT OLD CANARD in response to criticism by readers: We must be doing something right because 50% of our readers think we're biased against Hillary; and 50% think we're biased against Obama.

A CLASSIC corporate media argument, folks.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (none / 0)

I think you're right about Arianna and the general flavor over there, but at least one of the columnists that I'm familiar with, Earl Ofari Hutchinson, has been very anti-Obama, pro-Hillary.

But on balance, I'd say that Huff Post is about the mirror image of this place in terms of the Obama/Hillary split. DKos has been much more Edwards traditionally, though now shifting more to Obama also.

Huff Po (none / 0)

Assuredly, Huff Po is very biased in favor of Obama, and has been for a looooong time.

Huff Po's editors/handlers hate Edwards and Clinton about equally.

And sure, they do allow Edwards and Clinton supporters about 10% of the content...then they use the remaining 90% to just thrash Edwards and Clinton.

The unfortunate result is that the Huff Po audience gets overly hopped up on Obama...to the point of irrational apoplexy against Edwards and Clinton.

Why Do You Ask? (none / 0)

I do not take meds, but I do visit the Huff Po whenever I want to get the "Obama take" on events.

It can be useful to understand what the Obama spin on things is every day, and Huff Po also helps me to understand the more irrational strains of Obamamania.

And, FWIW, I actually like Obama. He is my second choice after Edwards.

I might ask you whether you take meds, but I think that would be an inappropriate ad hominem attack on a member of the MyDD community masquerading as a clever comment.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (none / 0)

This is almost laughable as I have stopped reading posts here much for the simple fact that this site has really gone batso for Clinton --so there you go--and let me say that this site is really crappy now as there is no real discretion or decent posts other than tearing others down if they are not supporters of the Clinton-so yeah will stay with Huffpost-and Openleft and the rest which have a semblance of decency.

If you know about Arianna's personal story, you understand why she hates Hillary so much. Hillary has the life Arianna wanted, spent years trying to obtain, and will never, ever have.

Re: Is the Huffington Post Biased? (none / 0)

I've been amused lately by her part-time indignation against polls and pollsters. My first diary here was to show why, on top of being a Hill-hater, she's one of the most audacious hypocrites out there.
