Edwards will drop out after South Carolina

The early news from the ground is that the two top tier candidates have South Carolina locked up.

It is my opinion that if Edwards cannot even win the state he grew up around, or prevail against his opponents in the heart of the land where he was born - then he will never prevail on super tuesday.

So I will make this simple. After Saturday, Edwards will drop his presidential bid. Just my view. What do you think? Am I chasing parked cars?

My prediction: Trey Rentz will stop posting on MyDD soon.

Isn't this bozo (2.00 / 1)

an old Richardson supporter?

What a jerk.

I predict that Trey Rentz will be seen by many to have no credibility.

Hey, Trey, go read the front page here.  Todd Beeton.

Edwards will run a staing third with an outside chance for second.

Re: Edwards will drop out after South Carolina (2.00 / 1)

No reason for Edwards to quit before Feb. 5th. After Feb. 5th, I think hard realities could set in (like low cash flow) and then he could drop out if his situation hasn't improved.

Re: Edwards will drop out after South Carolina (1.66 / 6)

Except that his campaign reportedly had a high-level meeting this week to plot media and travel for Feb 5 states.  He's also been raising a steady stream of money, almost all of which is doubled by matching funds. Plus unlike Clinton and Obama, he doesn't have a staff of high-priced consultants that he needs to keep paying to continue.

Given that the race will not be over after Feb 5, and that the two front-runners seem dead set on turning this into a tit-for-tat he-said/she-said pissing match, why not keep running on the issues that have set the agenda all year?

Re: Edwards will drop out after South Carolina (none / 0)

Maybe TomP is a high priced consultant working for Edwards?

ROFL.  I am sure it was an misclick by our friend Tom.

I love how there is no link from ANY news organization to bolster this claim.

Re: Edwards will drop out after South Carolina (none / 0)

This is such a shot in the dark BS statement.

I'm in Wisconsin right now and I haven't slept more than a few hours a night this week because I'm preparing a bunch of grassroots campaign activities for next week.  John Edwards is not dropping out, and I know he'll be running hard through Wisconsin, and hopefully beyond.

Re: (none / 0)

If Zogby is a foreshadow of an extremely tight race tomorrow and Obama comes in barely eeking out a win or actually losing SC, the talk will be about Obama's fortunes, nobody elses.

Re: Edwards will drop out after South Carolina (none / 0)

why would Edwards stay in? he's proven he has no appeal in the Dem party....what is he, 1 for 37 in Dem elections now -- what's the point in going for 1 for 77?

no experience. no consistency. etc etc. just ain't no 'there' there.

whether it be the Feingold progressive wing, Af Americans or Latinos, women, young voters, working class voters...he simply speaks to no one. I suppose he does speak to former Naderites with his warmed over class conflict rhetoric that is in obvious and stark contrast to his actual record as a lawyer and hedge fund guy, but that's as good as saying he speaks to virtually no one.

Re: Edwards will drop out after South Carolina (none / 0)

I think I just read from his campaign he would not drop out before Feb. 5th- and I'm sure he won't- as someone has said- they don't dtop out because they lose- they drop off when they have no money- and he has money to go to the 5th.  Plus, he likes the national attention, I'm sure- Who wouldn't?
