Why is MYDD misrepresenting the primary results?

Now, I'm a simple man, with a simple question.
Why is Jerome counting Michigan's delegates in the Democrat's flash counter to the left, when Michigan has no delegates, and won't get their delegates back?

This has the effect of making it seem like Clinton is winning by a huge margin, when in fact she is losing by two delegates.

Now, I could imagine possibly noting her victory, had she not been the only real contender on the ballot, and therefore, the automatic victor.

In fact, her victory in Michigan is entirely meaningless, so why is Jerome even noting it? and doing so in a way that artificially  pumps up Clinton, despite the actual case of events.
Smells of bias to me.

It's even more bizarre, since he could just pump her up by adding the super-delegates.

No way.  If you think she will play will in the I-4 corridor, you are nuts.  This is the fastest growing part of the state and it is where Bush beat Kerry in 2004.

'08 will be a different year but Obama has some fatal drawbacks among key groups in Florida.    He also performs poorly among latinos which I did not metion.

But his problem with some Jewish voters, and with Cuban votters, and older voters is a recipe for a total Obama disaster.

Re: You think Hillary will win it? (none / 0)

She will definitely beat Obama in the I-4 corridor.  I live in Tampa.  I barely see Obama bumper stickers, he has no mindshare at all.  Democrats I generally talk to are between Clinton and Edwards, and with Edwards in a bit of a pickle I think Hillary picks up more.   I don't know about the panhandle, but here (and certainly in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale areas with the huge Hispanic contingent) Obama has no chance.

Florida will go double-digit for Hillary, IMHO.

A lot of site are (none / 0)

Many assume (correctly) that unless there is a highly contentious brokered convention - and even if there is - these delegates will get seated and counted.

You can't throw Michigan and Florida under the bus ahead of a general.

The DNC should have done what the Republicans did.  It would have been a decent compromise.

disenfranchisement (none / 0)

Remember the uproar that Obama generated yesterday over the possible disenfranchisement of shift workers in at large caucus sites? That was concern for the voting rights of a few thousand people, imagine the uproar if the votes of six hundred thousand Democrats in Michigan were not counted at a Democratic nominating convention.

by souvarine on Sun Jan 20, 2008 at 07:35:59 PM EST

Re: disenfranchisement (none / 0)

Yes that would be terrible. I think states should be able to have their primaries whenever they want. The Democratic party should have no control over the process to elect a democratic party representative for the general election. Also, ideally states would get to vote a couple of times. That would give people more of a say.

Re: Why is MYDD misrepresenting the primary result (none / 0)

Well its great to know that the canidate for change is telling ME that I don't matter to him. Which is all to common in the Washington area, that Mr. Obama says he isnt part of!

Tell me something, why should i vote for Obama when he told me I DONT COUNT? Well maybe my happy ass will sit home when he comes to Florida and trys to tell me that now it matters. Now my vote matters to him, but when he didnt need me he didnt want me!

You see how that works? As a matter of fact if Obama is the nominee come Nov I will make it my main goal to ask him:

WHY DIDNT I MATTER TO HIM WHEN HE DIDNT NEED MY VOTE? WHY SHOULD I VOTE FOR HIM NOW?

I will have that opportunity indeed because I am from Florida and from the all important I-4 corridor, and I can garrentee that both nominees will come!

So all you Obama people and  supporters be prepared to work yourself out of the hole you have put yourselves in, that is IF you win!

Re: Why is MYDD misrepresenting the primary result (none / 0)

Uhhhhhhh... I'm sure Hillary or Obama can tell you when they drop by your all important corridor but maybe because the reason is Florida disregarded the democratic party and moved the date of their primary? DId you hear about that or where you out of the country? What part of that don't you understand? Should there be no rules??? States should have primaries whenever they feel like it??? The party has no say in the process to select the party's candidate?

Do not insult me Boxer ok? Thats not the way it works here. We don't call each other names ok?

You asked why and I told you. YOu dont seem to understand that the party - which includes you- makes the rules and then those that don't follow them are operating outside the rules and therefore the party takes actions. Now you'd have to take up with Howard Dean and ask him about it because I dont know anything about it. I was just pointing out that FLorida state democratic party disenfranchised itself by moving its date without the national party's authorization. Or should every state move its primary to whatever date they feel like it??? If that happeened the first primary would probably have been in 2005!!!!!!!!!!

I suggest you call the Florida state democratic party and ask them why they moved the date when the national party told them they'd be stripped.

Re: Why is MYDD misrepresenting (none / 0)

Well maybe you should start saying something about that issue with dc....I DONT AGREE WITH THAT POSITION EITHER! But it is the gop who is stopping that from happening!

it wasnt the florida dems who moved it up it was the gop of florida!  the dems had to go alone by state law! so please now your facts and before you even say it i have already called and complained MANY TIMES  to the dnc about this!

I would think that someone who is being disenfranchised too, by living in DC you would understand! but maybe i was wrong!

So i stand by my statement prevously that i will make it agoal to ask Mr. Obama why he did this. I will also, if the delegates are not seated, I will go straight to the dnc and fight this!

IT IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR THAT I AM BEING DISENFRANCHISED BECAUSE OF WHAT THE REPUBLICANS DID IN MY STATE!

Are you telling the same thing to IA and NH voters?  They also moved from their sanctioned DNC date to an unsanctioned one.

Re: Why is MYDD misrepresenting the primary result (2.00 / 0)

note that the counter lists Hillary Clinton with AND without Michigan. I'd rather the counter erred on the side of more information rather than less, especially if the MI delegates will indeed be counted in the end.

by Todd Beeton on Sun Jan 20, 2008 at 08:07:41 PM EST

Re: Why is MYDD misrepresenting the primary result (none / 0)

Excellent point, Todd.  BOTH results are showing, so what's the beef?  Also, in the end the delegates WILL count (as will the FL delegates,) regardless whether Hillary or Obama wins (unless there is a highly unlikely brokered convention,) so technically counting them already makes sense.

Hey.  Do you have a favorite hangout?  If you are a girl, I may get in trouble with my wife.  :-)

I like the idea of getting together and canvassing for Hillary here in FL, to participate in a full-throttle GOTV effort here and get her over 50% in Florida as well.  I assume, since the candidates aren't allowed to campaign here, the effort would be organized from one of the unions or groups (AFSMCE, Emily's List, etc.)

Maybe one of us can set up a free yahoo or gmail account and list it here just to exchange phone numbers for the initial contact?

I wish I could help our for Hillary in Florida. I live in the I-4 corridor but since I am currently living in Canada, British Columbia to be exact, I am voting absentee. If I had not gone home for my mom's funeral last year I would be there now, canvassing my brains out. AS it stands, I plan to be home in Tampa for the GE so I can volunteer and vote for my girl in my state.
