"I'm Dennis Kucinich, B*tch!"

I had already made plans to skip the presumed Bud vs. Bud Light vitriol on tonight's MSNBC debate.  Time can be better spent, don't you think?  What living room pursuit can beat a bottle of merlot and an entire season of "The Wire" on DVD?  And on a weeknight, even?

Well those plans are possibly going to change, and for good reason.

Though he's easy to dismiss as an oddity, distraction or product of the "viewpoint neutral" media (as NBC phrases it), how ironic is it that Dennis Kucinich tends to gravitate toward the top-tier ranks during debates?  Look, I already have my candidate selected and I have no plans (unless something drastic happens) to switch alliances.  But if you claim to be a Democrat, you have to admire Kucinich for his sheer chutzpah and altruistic motivation.

Before you scoff, answer this.  Who's the last member of Congress you've heard of who has introduced a measure to impeach Cheney, called for (and obtained) a recount of the New Hampshire primary votes and filed a lawsuit against NBC to appear in a debate that he was disinvited from?  This guy does a longer patriot march for democracy in one day than most do in a full term.  You can tell that he has no fear of presumed repercussions as a result of anything he says or does.  He really walks like he talks, and shamelessly.  Yes, he may lack the x-factor that draws sexy media attention to the top three, but look past the artifice for a moment.  All the other candidates have glitches on their Iraq war records, except Kucinich.  His bravado may make him an easy target for a snicker or two, but it shows that he's more connected to Democratic principles than anyone else at the moment.

So I'm game for viewing this debate if Kucinich prevails despite NBC's appeal attempt.  It would send a strong message to the MSM: that you can't arbitrarily select debate participants on our behalf.  Dennis, I'm raising a tall glass of vino to you if you make it on the air tonight.  Godspeed, sir!

Update [2008-1-15 23:13:6 by nafamabo]: Democracy lost tonight, it seems. The wine was good, and so was "The Wire".

Kucinich pays for partial recount (none / 0)

I posted a diary earlier doubting that Kucinich would pay for a recount of the NH Democratic primary, but he has in fact paid $27k for a partial recount. I've updated my diary. NH will recount Manchester precincts, the machine counted precincts where Clinton got most of her vote. Good for him.

Re: "I'm Dennis Kucinich, B*tch!" (none / 0)

I have mixed feelings about adding Dennis to the debate. If he would just talk issues I would be happy and in fairness he should be included but then should Gravel and I am sure there are other minor candidates who are running as democrats who we have never heard of. Maybe they should be there too?

My main problem with DK is that he tends to start with the "I am the only pure and perfect democratic candidate...." and it gets on my nerves.  He has a lot to say on the issues and since he and we all know damn well he is not going to get the nomination and few if any delegates, he really should stick to promoting issues and not himself.  When I take those tests to see who my perfect candidate is he comes up first, Gravel second, Clinton third and Edwards forth.  I am supporting Clinton.  But I don't vote until may and if it is all tied up at that time I may vote for Dennis if he can avoid being a purity troll in the debates from now on.
Another option is writing in Gore (who NEVER comes up as my top candidate in those tests but who I would rather vote for than anyone) or voting for Clinton anyway just so I can tell my grandchildren I voted to get the first female president the nomination.

ABO... Anybody but Obama. I LIKE the democratic party.
