Kucinich tells supporters to back OBAMA

Funny there's been no diary about this...what a surprise...

Kucinich urges supporters to back Obama...Posted: Tuesday, January 01, 2008 3:58 PM by Mark Murray

...if he doesn't meet the 15% threshold in Thursday's Iowa caucuses. Kucinich made a similar endorsement of Edwards back in 2004, and that (among many other things) helped Edwards finish second in Iowa that year. "This is obviously an 'Iowa-only' recommendation, as Sen. Obama and I are competing in the New Hampshire primary next Tuesday where I want to be the first choice of New Hampshire voters," Kucinich said in a statement."

"I hope Iowans will caucus for me as their first choice this Thursday, because of my singular positions on the war, on health care, and trade. This is an opportunity for people to stand up for themselves. But in those caucus locations where my support doesn't reach the necessary threshold, I strongly encourage all of my supporters to make Barack Obama their second choice. Sen. Obama and I have one thing in common: Change."

I am sure his 15 supporters in IA will really help Obama.

Hope Hillary makes a deal with someone who actually has some supporters.

Well, HRC better pack up now and leave IA quick, fast in a hurry. Kucinich told his supporters to support BO, it's 'ova' now.

Re: Kucinich tells supporters to back OBAMA (2.00 / 1)

Although Dennis wants to make this Iowa-only it could have a much larger impact on some of the States on Feb. 5th.

Re: Kucinich tells supporters to back OBAMA (2.00 / 1)

Funny...how can Kucinich...perhaps one of the most liberal in the party...supporter Obama who according to the Hill-humpers here is in love with Republicans?

Maybe Obama really is the most liberal candidate we can believe in?

Just like he made him "look bad" in '04...oh...wait...

Anyone who argues Kucinich is not the most progressive candidate is dreaming.

Re: Kucinich tells supporters to back OBAMA (2.00 / 1)

Only in blogoland is Obama in love with Republicans.  Kucinich opposed the war.  Obama opposed the war.  No wonder Kucinich endorsed him as a 2nd choice.

Re: Kucinich tells supporters to back OBAMA (none / 0)

What it could do is prolong the fight. If Hillary wins Iowa it's over. Media attention shifts to the Republican fight. Kucinich maintains what little impact he has on the race and the ability to raise progressive concerns only until the nomination is locked up. With Edwards trailing, it makes sense for him to do this at this point even if he prefers Edwards.

Re: Kucinich tells supporters to back OBAMA (none / 0)

There's a far more interesting aspect of this which is the debates coming up between Iowa and NH.  ABC is looking to limit participation to the top 4 finishers in Iowa plus anyone who polling over 5% in NH or Nationally.  That would cut Kucinich out of the debate and Obama has already issued a release calling for the station to include all candidates.  The Washington Post has an article about a possible deal with Biden and the focus of it is how important a 4th place finish is for all these 2nd tier guys.
