What's better than two ads, one each hitting Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for his ties to special interests and his steadfast support for staying the course in Iraq? One ad hitting him on both lines, of course. Check out this new gem from Public Campaign Action Fund:
Wow. They don't pull any punches with the ad, exposing the fact that McConnell helped a supporter land a multi-million dollar contract to provide music players to Afghan tribesmen even as he voted against body armor for American troops. It's ads like these that I'd like to see almost constantly between now and election day in Kentucky (or at least between the day after election day 2007, when Kentuckians are going to replace their Republican Governor with a Democrat, and election day 2008, when they will have the opportunity to do so with McConnell, too).
It's not yet clear who the Democratic Senate nominee is going to be in Kentucky. Attorney General Greg Stumbo is thinking about a race, and there are a few other names currently floating around in the mix (including Iraq War vet and 2006 candidate for the Democratic congressional nomination in district 3 Andrew Horne). If the Democrats indeed are able to field a strong candidate in the race, as I think they should be able to, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, George W. Bush's best ally in the Senate, would be in a bit of danger and Kentucky would be among the 10 or 11 best pickup opportunities for the Democrats.
