Anbar Province Success Isn't Due to U.S. Surge

The Bush administration is claiming SUCCESS in Iraq and that the success is attributed to the additional troops they sent over earlier this year.

This is once again - a lie

It wasn't the U.S. surge that calmed things down in Anbar province, it was the Sunni surge, according to Michael Ware of CNN.  This clip of news given during the Anderson Cooper 360 Show last night (Sept. 3, 2007) should be REPLAYED by Democrats.

The Bush administration is once again claiming "Mission Accomplished" - when it didn't have anything to do with OUR surge of 30,000 additional troops.

CNN: Anderson Cooper interview of Michael Ware in Iraq http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0709/03/acd.01.html CNN: Anderson Cooper COOPER: The president flew to Al Anbar Province. We have talked about it a lot. He touted the security progress that has been made there, undeniable. Things are getting better. What is working in Al Anbar? And how -- and -- and, really, quite frankly, can it translate into the rest of Iraq? WARE: Well, certainly one of the -- one of the president's war council -- I believe it was Secretary Gates himself -- said that, really, the success of Al Anbar Province predates the surge. It is really an Iraqi initiative. And what that is, is that the Sunni Baathist insurgency turned on al Qaeda and it offered America the same terms of negotiation that it first offered four years ago, in 2003, in that it was willing to work with America, but not with the Iraqi government. And America, after four years of bloodshed, was finally ready to accept those terms. So, it is the Sunni insurgency that has turned all Anbar around and made it safe. And, having just returned from that province ourselves, having been with those insurgents, we watched with our own eyes as the insurgents go in one door of a training camp and emerge as the so-called Iraqi police that are keeping those streets safe that President Bush referred to -- Anderson. COOPER: A lot of people probably didn't cover this today, but a really important event did happen in Iraq elsewhere where President Bush was, and British forces handed over control of Basra, which is Iraq's second largest city. It's down in the south. They handed over control to the Iraqi forces. It is a big test.

Well, at least something is going right over there. Do we have to criticize each and very move and word the President makes and say?

Anbar Province Success (none / 0)

What is being termed a success in Anbar is largely the result of the Sunnis being bought off by Shrub. Just as they did in Afghanistan Shrub Co. paid the warlords to switch sides. It's a good thing that the Sunnis are fighting Al Qaeda but once the money dries up it's anyone's guess.

Re: Anbar Province Success (none / 0)

So would you criticize each and every word a President Clinton, or President Obama, or President Edwards or President Richardson says?

Re: Anbar Province Success (2.00 / 1)

Yes and I did when I felt the need.

This trip was a PR stunt - why else would he pick one week before the BIG tell all about how Iraq surge is doing?

You apparently see no wrong in this action.  As long as it promotes more war it's OK by you?
