Join Glenn Greenwald For A Constitution Day Conference Call!

From the diaries, this is an extremely exciting and important campaign - Todd

As defenders of the U.S. Constitution, we can't remain silent these days and hope for the best. Join the ACLU-SC this Monday 9/17 from 4-5pm PST on an important conference call.

People like us are alarmed and angry about the way our elected officials have dismantled so many American freedoms. We have been stunned not only by the willful intent by this administration to undermine civil liberties but the fear and complicity shown by our Congress in failing to stand up for our Constitutional values.

We've had enough.

Constitutional changes (none / 0)

Congress should introduce an amendment to do away with the Electoral College. Included should be a provision to provide for a popular vote of the president.

There should also be a recall amendment that would allow for a recall petition of the president similar to California's recall petition of the governor.

These amendment are needed to stop this march to an imperial presidency, which had degenerated into an almost divine right of kings presidency.

Congress should set term limits on itself. Senators should be allowed to serve two terms, much like the president.

House members should be allowed to serve four terms.

There should also be a recall petition for members of Congress similar to California's recall petition for governor.

The Supreme Court should be allowed to serve five years, at which time they would come up for another confirmation hearing. If confirmed they can serve another five years. If not, the president would have to nominate someone else.

Justices can only be confirmed four times, allowing them to serve up to 20 years.

These changes would do more to put government back into the hands of the people.
