Democratic Committees Continue Fundraising Dominance

It's the 20th of the month, so it's time to take a look at the campaign finance filings sent to the Federal Election Commission by the party campaign committees, a task that is significantly more difficult than before given the fact that Political Money Line is much less user-friendly and potentially even a pay service since it has been taken over by CQ.

* - Numbers have been updated

Once again, as was the case last month, the Democratic committees have nearly doubled up their Republican counterparts in terms of cash-on-hand when debts and obligations are taken into account. This news comes even as the Republicans have finally brought in almost all of the cash that came in from the President's fundraiser earlier this summer.

Every month that goes by with the Democrats maintaining such a large cash-on-hand lead the Republicans get further and further away from being able to retake either chamber of Congress next fall. In the House, in particular, the Democrats were able to extend their cash-on-hand lead to close to an 11-to-1 margin, or $19,312,421.78. Including debts and obligations, the Democrats' lead is even larger (the NRCC is still well in the red), $19,855,605.52. Numbers like these mean that the Democrats can play ball in many, many more districts than the Republicans. The Democrats' roughly $14,000,000 lead in cash-on-hand for Senate committees has a similar effect as well. But even though the RNC continues to post better numbers than the DNC, both in terms of fundraising and cash-on-hand, Republicans shouldn't get their hopes up too much -- the Democratic presidential candidates are raising money at a significantly faster clip than the Republican candidates, so most, if not all, of the RNC's money is going to have to go to the presidential race rather than congressional ones.

Re: Fundraising (none / 0)

The numbers (overall) are fantastic, but is there a reason why the DNC is being significantly outraised by the RNC?

The RNC (none / 0)

always takes in more than the DNC.

Re: Democratic Committees Continue Fundraising Dom (none / 0)

Very interesting. The Republicans have lesser financial resources and will have to spread them more broadly (to hold on to seats like Hasterts, Pryce's, etc.). My guess is there will be a bunch of races that they will write off very early on as hopeless and concentrate their efforts on only high-priority races. That is good for Democrats, no doubt.

Somewhat Encouraging (none / 0)

Although, it really bothers me that the RNC continues to outraise the DNC. Is it because we have more places to put our resorces like the various PACs and what have you? Like Move On. org and the ACLU and all? Is that why? Is our money spread out more?

RNC won't have to use the money for (none / 0)

the presidential election if Romney is the nominee. He can self-finance the campaign.

Re: RNC won't have to use the money for (none / 0)

The presidential race is likely to cost each candidate $100 million or more. Romney is rich, but I think it's highly unlikely he'd be willing to sink that sort of money into it. He's rich, but not Bloomberg rich.

Re: Stealth Committees? (none / 0)

Last I saw, the Repub Governors Association had outraised the DGA this year. So overall, the four Repubs entities still outraised the Democrats!

This stealth Repub moneypot is a problem because 1) we have a good chance and an outside chance of winning the Gov races in KY and LA this year, and 2) next year the DGA and the RGA can funnel money into the combined campaigns at the state level and thereby pay for mailings etc that support Congressional and other candidates.

Where is that info? The Federal Election Commission puts out a press release that gives figures for the DNC, DSCC, and DCCC and their Repub counterparts. They do not include the Governors figures. Then the Political MoneyLine (right you are about it being significantly less useful under new ownership) reports the figures from the FEC. Then MyDD and Daily Kos report those reports. The Repub success in raising funds through their Governors Association remains hidden from view.

Oh yeah, the Political MoneyLine used to report the DGA and RGA results, but apparently that info is for sale now, and I couldn't find a free source.

Re: Stealth Committees? (none / 0)

Kentucky won't re-elect their horrid governor.  He's corrupt and been polling well under our nominee.  We'll pickup Kentucky and probably lose Louisiana.

Re: Democratic Committees Continue Fundraising Dom (none / 0)

Are there some things that the RNC can do with the money that the other organizations can't? The deviation represented by these numbers is just too great not to be for some deliberate purpose.

Continue Fundraising Dominance (none / 0)

Republicans need the money to perpetuate their scare tactics and lies.  The fact that they are fundraising significantly less is a good sign.  Plus they are supposed to be the party for rich people.
