2. Never before, for a folksy little straw poll event, has Diebold machines, or any other type of machine, been brought in to control the counting of votes.

These fairs had always been counted by simple hand counts.  But with 5 months to go before the formal primaries & caucuses, they did not want to have anti-status-quo, anti-establishment candidate, Ron Paul, be seen or perceived as "a winner", and getting the large Media coverage and momentum that would have followed -- had he been announced as the winner.  What we saw is that at least one (or more) Diebold machines failed and, instead of reverting to a simple hand count for that station(s), they held up the Election for around an hour, while they re-programmed the Diebold machines to ensure that all the counting was done through the machine and none by hand (where the true voting trends would have been detected).

I smell a rat here!

Ron Paul won Iowa.
They took it away from him, like they took Ohio away from John Kerry

We have to stop Diebold and these other E-voting machines!

This is not about Ron Paul, this is about Election tranparency.

John Kerry should be President today!

Re: Evidence of DIEBOLD Rigged Iowa Straw Poll rev (3.00 / 1)

I work for the Paul campaign, I was in Ames on Saturday and watched the vote and the voters throughout.  This exit poll is not realistic.  The people conducting it were Paul supporters, which I appreciate, but they had to have been very selective about who they interviewed to come to this result.

I saw the Romney army on the ground, there were many more of them then us.  I monitored the vote as well as ticket distribution and I, as well as the campaign, are confident that the vote count was reasonably accurate.

Romney bussed in 1000's, we did not.  Huckabee had the Fair Tax people, of whom there were hundreds, Brownback also bussed in 100's of supporters and Tancredo brought out 100's of anti-immigration supporters.

We did well, in a hostile environment, with little resources and only 8 days of actual time with Dr. Paul in the state.  Let's look at the positive, move forward with conviction, and win this thing rather then trying to create imaginary controversies.

Re: Evidence of DIEBOLD Rigged Iowa Straw Poll rev (none / 0)

Thanks for the feedback.
But how do you explain Ron Paul getting less than 2000 votes?

It was clear from the TV images and Internet photos, that the place was swamped with Paul supporters.  There was a whole lot of energy there. Now, I know that there were out-of-State-ers that came in to help support the campaign. But, I can't really see how Paul only just broke 1000 votes that day and no more, with that type of body count and energy.

Second point is that they also had used a clicker to keep track of how many people voted. 15,000 clicks were reported, but the tabulation only showed 14,300.  There was also malfunctioning Diebold machine(s) and a 90-minute delay while they re-programmed it (at which point we have a big leap of faith).

It would be more credible for me if they either had counted some stations by hand or Paul got at least 2000 votes.

Of course, this all speaks to the issue of how can we ever be confident when we no longer have an open, transparent, end-to-end verifiable voting process anymore?

We need to get rid of the machines!

Re: Evidence of DIEBOLD Rigged Iowa Straw Poll rev (none / 0)

Well, the campaign bought 800 tickets and gave out 600 of them.  An independent group had $28,000 to spend on tickets but only bought about 380 and had some of those left as well.  So in total, there were about 900 tickets given to Paul supporters.  So about 400 people who we did not give tickets to also voted for Dr. Paul.

We probably lost a few to Huckabee who is running increasingly as Ron Paul light.  The turnout for the event was terrible, it was a miserably hot day and the GOP base is really unmotivated anyway.  We had observers watching the credentialing and our attorney was present every time there was an issue.  He reported back that they were correctly handled including the re-feeding of the malfunctioning machine.

Based on RSVP's, phone bank reports, and considerations of what we could and could not accomplish in the weeks leading up to the poll, and my own observations based on arriving in Iowa 2 weeks in advance and overseeing our efforts there (along with Joe Seehusen, the no BS former head of the LP), we concluded that we would get between 6 and 12% of the vote and we did.

This is a great accomplishment for us and I hope by putting some facts out there I can help us all move on and refocus on what is important...winning the Republican nomination.

Re: Evidence of DIEBOLD Rigged Iowa Straw Poll rev (none / 0)

The August 16, Illinois Straw Poll results are now in, and the results are as follows:

.

  1.  Mitt Romney   40.4%
  2.  Fred Thompson 20.0%
  3.  Ron Paul   18.9%
  4.  Rudy Guiliani  11.6%
  5.  John McCain   4.1%
  6.  Mike Huckabee   3.0%
  7.  Sam Brownback   1.1%
  8.  Duncan Hunter   0.65%
  9.  Tom Tancredo    0.33%
.

I expected something closer to this in Iowa as well...

Re: Evidence of DIEBOLD Rigged Iowa Straw Poll rev (none / 0)

Additional Straw Polls:

Dr. Ron Paul received 208 votes (73%) for a landslide victory against Mitt Romney at the Strattford County, New Hampshire straw poll.  Romney received 26 votes.  Mike Huckabee came in third with 20 votes.

Tancredo (8 votes), McCain (7 votes), Cox (5 votes), Hunter (5 votes), Thompson (5 votes), Giuliani (3 votes) and Brownback (1 vote) finished the field.

Ron Paul also received 216 votes for a commanding first-place finish in a straw poll today sponsored by the West Alabama Republican Assembly.  Mitt Romney came in second with 14 votes.

Ron Paul won big in Alabama.  He also won big in New Hampshire.

It seems that Ron Paul consistently does pretty well when no E-Voting machines are used.

These E-Voting machines will also handicap the Democratic Primaries (rigged for Hillary?) and will handicap the Democratic candidate in the General Election!

Clicks (none / 0)

This is Emily here... who was in charge of the clickers.

There were 4 exits, and so 4 separate clickers. At the end of the night, the clicks totaled 12,950. However, at one of the exits, cops showed up and we lost a lot of clicks.

I myself estimated that 1500 voters were missed, making the total about 14,450. I was absolutely sure that there were no more than 15,000 votes.

So my estimate was pretty darn close.
