The Company Rudy Keeps

Remember this guy...

President Bush tapped [Bernie] Kerik, 49, earlier this month as his nominee for homeland security secretary, but Kerik abruptly withdrew his name Dec. 10 after revealing that he had not paid all required taxes for a family nanny-housekeeper and that the woman may have been in the country illegally. He has been hit with other allegations as well, including that he had connections with people suspected of doing business with the mob and that he had simultaneous extramarital affairs with two women.

Kerik's nomination became a political embarrassment for Giuliani, a rising star in the GOP who had recommended his friend and business partner to Mr. Bush.

Or how about this guy...

South Carolina Treasurer Thomas Ravenel, a former real estate developer who became a rising political star after his election last year, was indicted Tuesday on federal cocaine charges.

Ravenel is also the state chairman for former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this guy...

Advocates for victims of abuse by Catholic clergy on Friday urged presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani to fire a priest who was suspended from the church and then hired by the ex-mayor's security consulting business. A spokeswoman for Giuliani said the firm had no plans to fire Monsignor Alan Placa.

And now we have this guy...

U.S. Sen. David Vitter made the following statement today about his telephone number being on the old phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates...

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there-with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way," Vitter said.

Yep, he's a Giuliani guy too:

The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Exploratory Committee today announced that Senator David Vitter will serve as the Southern Regional Chair. Senator Vitter will help lead the campaign's efforts to build support in the south and in the United States Senate.

Imagine the stellar appointments he'd make as president? Would probably look a little something like this (h/t Right's Field.)

Update [2007-7-10 17:58:6 by Todd Beeton]: Buckeye State Blog has video of Giuliani responding to a question about the growing list of people in his orbit with ethical and legal troubles.

Update [2007-7-10 19:0:9 by Todd Beeton]: Oh, missed the guy who Rudy appointed to replace his cokehead South Carolina chair: the cokehead's racist dad, former congressman Arthur Ravenal, Jr.

From Jason Horowitz at the Politicker:

On October 18, 2006 The Post and Courier of Charleston, SC wrote " Arthur Ravenel Jr., who is running for an East Cooper seat on the board, caught flack 16 years ago when he was in Congress and made a comment about white committee chairmen who operated on 'black time,' which he said meant fashionably late."

As recently as January 2000, the Post and Courier reported in an article headlined "Ravenel stepped outside 'civility,'" that Ravenel called the NAACP the "National Association For Retarded People."

When asked about the comment in the story, Ravenel said that he misspoke. "It was a slip of the tongue. I have never said the NAACP was retarded," he told the Post and Courier. "I made a rhetorical slip, and they want to lynch me for it."

Re: The Company Rudy Keeps (none / 0)

The New York Times dug up yet another dirty Rudy supporter: "But his campaign seemed to have slipped up on the vetting process when it stood poised to appoint Robert B. Asher, a prominent Pennsylvania Republican and prolific fund-raiser, to take charge of the Giuliani team's efforts in the state. Only after public reports that Mr. Asher had been convicted in a famous public corruption case two decades earlier did the campaign back away from the choice." Re: The Company Rudy Keeps (3.00 / 2)

As a gay person, I am giggling with glee that this hypocrite got outed.  I called his office today and, when I finally got through to his receptionist, she, let's just say, has had better days.

It's not that he saw a whore that anyone cares about.  Hey, the more the merrier.  It's the hypocracy.

I am married in Massachusetts and I guess his having a whore threatens the sanctity of my gay marriage, haha.

McCain is defining Obama, and Obama is neither defining himself, nor McCain. This is awful.

Re: The Company Rudy Keeps (none / 0)

As I have said before, Rudy does not worry me as the Repub nominee.  He can't stand up to the scrutiny which is why he isn't going to be the nominee in the end.

Giuliani is a pig.

I am glad I am not a Republican (none / 0)

for a variety of reasons of course.  But if Giuliani ever became President, it would become very hard for boring guys like me.

It would become fashionable to surround yourself with open f&&&ups, racists, crackheads, embezzlers.  I say "open" because it's already popular in the White House, of course, but at least Bush is paying the homage that vice pays to virtue by going out of his way to obstruct justice and keep the facts from emerging.

With Giuliani, though, it would be like Jackie Kennedy and fashion: if she even looked at a hat, the masses went nuts.  Similarly, no manager will want to try to build a career without finding at least three complete f&&*#ups to be his delegates.

For boring guys like me who don't use dope, don't hate black people, don't steal from public funds and don't hire or sleep with prominent prostitutes or madams in the city where I earn my check (or in my case, anywhere), it's the end.  No place for Dull Men anymore.

A PROFILE IN DRAG

If Rudy was so heroic, more New Yorkers would support him. Essentially, they're grateful that he appeared on TV on 9/11 while Bush was hiding. Giuliani's stature as a "hero" is simply a commentary on how feckless Bush was. Upon closer inspection, New Yorkers realize Giuliani PLACED the EMERGENCY COMMAND CENTER where the first attack on the WTC occurred in 1993. That's unforgiveable. And the rest of the country will come around to see him as the depraved opportunist he is.

Re: The Company Rudy Keeps (none / 0)

How come there has been no talk of Russell Harding, Rudy's hand-picked commissioner for the NYC Housing Development Corporation.  He's another of his great choices-- embezzler, high school dropout, child pornographer, son of one of rudy's political allies, and currently, a convict.

Re: The Company Rudy Keeps (none / 0)

The question is, when will Rudy's closet of personal skeletons be opened to real scrutiny by the MSM.  I'm not referring to his marital issues, but his business issues.  He's taken millions from corporations in so-called speaking and appearance fees.  While there has been some coverage (such as in Salon) there hasn't been a whole lot else.  I wonder if any of those fees were paid in expectation of anything should he go anywhere further in politics.  Given the ethical lapses of Rudy's associates I think he's got some serious Splainin to do about the millions in fees he's collected.  The list of players is eye opening.
