Glasgow attack seen tied to London bombs

A Jeep Cherokee trailing a cascade of flames rammed into Glasgow's airport terminal on Saturday, shattering glass doors just yards from passengers at the check-in counters. Police said they believed the attack was linked to two car bombs found in London the day before.

Britain raised its terror alert to "critical" -- the highest possible level -- and the Bush administration announced plans to increase security at airports and on mass transit.

Rae said a "suspect device" was found on the man at the hospital and it was taken to a safe location where it was being investigated. He would not say whether the device was a suicide belt, but British security officials said evidence pointed to the attack being a suicide mission.

Police later arrested two more suspects in the London and Glasgow plots in Cheshire county in northern England, Scotland Yard said early Sunday.

"I can confirm that we believe the incident at Glasgow airport is linked to the events in London yesterday," Rae said at a news conference. "There are clearly similarities and we can confirm that this is being treated as a terrorist incident."

Police foiled the earlier plot Friday after two cars were found in central London packed with explosives -- one outside a nightclub near Piccadilly Circus and another parked nearby.

...

Unlike many delusional bloggers either on this site or dailykos, terrorism threat is very real and fighting terror is not 'bumper sticker'.

It's interesting that Edwards is no longer bringing this up. I'm wondering whether he still believes it's just a 'bumper sticker' ?

Many extremists on the left tend to have knee-jerk reaction whenever there's a terror threat. I am not sure why they are so scared of talking about fighting terror. There's no single diary on London attack so far, and I'll try to keep all of us informed.

You're not progressive in the least. You know that, right?

Oh, and THANK YOU for keeping us informed. (yup, that's sarcasm) You are talking to one of the most informed demographics in America - the progressive netroots. I think we can manage to watch some network news and scan the latest USA Today (that is also sarcasm, I guess - or it's not - whichever you find more insulting, that's what it is).

I don't need to have some right wing troll on here telling me the news.  Go back over to Free Republic where you belong.

Re: Glasgow attack seen tied to London bombs (none / 0)

"terrorism threat is very real and fighting terror is not 'bumper sticker'."

I agree with both sides of this and I believe both sides have mischaracterized it.

Terrorism IS a real threat. The fact that the Iraq war is churning out terrorists is something everyone of us should pay attention to. And to think that they won't try to attack us here would be absolute folly, especially since they already have.

But John Edwards was also correct in saying that Bush's War on Terror is a bumper sticker. It has been used as an excuse to deprive us on our civil liberties, the very "freedoms" the terrorists hate us for. And it is used AS a tool of terror to induce fear and keep us from forcefully confronting the illegal acts of this administration.

The fact that this poster has been attacked and labeled as a right wing troll is preposterous. There is a serious problem when people will not pay attention to facts only because someone else has distorted those facts to cover up their blunders and crimes. Open your eyes.

This just shows you how far off some extremists are this site have been. Do you really believe these guys' favoured candidates can win in a general election with such attitude on national security and terrorism?

I think that Bush's distortion of terrorism is causing many to see it as only a political ploy and not a real threat. And that is extremely dangerous.
