New VoteVets Ad Hits Bush Hard on Iraq

Last night I suggested that there was still work to be done showing the American people that it is President Bush, not the Democratic Congress, who is at fault for the current gridlock over the Iraq War supplemental bill. This new ad from VoteVets could help.

Per the VoteVets website,

Our ads are airing in states and districts of those Members of Congress who are very close to breaking with the President on Iraq, and joining the troops and American people. They are: Senators Susan Collins, John Sununu, John Warner, and Norm Coleman, and Representatives Mary Bono, Phil English, Randy Kuhl, Jim Walsh,  Heather Wilson, Jo Ann Emerson, Tim Johnson, Mike Rogers, Fred Upton, and Mike Castle. Mentioning them by name at the end, the local spots will call on them to "Protect America, Not George Bush."

Next week, we'll launch another ad with retired Major General Paul Eaton. And, after that, the campaign will wrap up with a powerful ad from former NATO Allied Supreme Commander, General Wesley Clark. Help keep our ads on the air. We're trying to raise $100,000 to get these ads on nationally. Help us spread the word click here to  donate.

I just sent in my $25...

I normally never send money to these types of things (I save my meager earnings for candidate donations) but this is too good to pass up!

Thanks Jonathan (and all you hard-working front-pagers) for making it so easy to do some good at 9 am on a workday :-)

Ex-Generals criticize Bush and the war

Wednesday, May 09, 2007

In a conference call with reporters today to announce the new ads they appear in that criticize the Iraq war, three retired military generals -- Wesley Clark, John Batiste, and Paul Eaton -- all had tough words for the Bush Administration and its handling of the war.

Said Wesley Clark, "The fact is, this president never listened to the soldiers on the ground. The problem is not just a military problem. It is a political problem and a diplomatic problem."

Batiste added that Bush "ignores sound military advice and surrounds himself with like-minded subordinates." More: "There was a time when we could have pulled this out. Quite frankly, it is time to call a spade a spade."

And Eaton called the Bush
Administration "incompetent," and said his participation in this ad campaign "is an effort to render competence to an Administration that needs it."

One of the ads has Bush saying that he listens to the commanders on the ground.

But then Batiste chimes in: "Mr. President, you did not listen. You continue to pursue a failed strategy that is breaking our great Army and Marine Corps.  I left the army in protest in order to speak out. Mr. President, you have placed our national in peril. Our only hope is that Congress will act now to protect our fighting men and women."

These ads -- which are being run by http://www.VoteVets.org, which describes itself as a pro-military organization made up of 40,000 veterans and other supporters who oppose the Iraq war -- target GOP senators and congressmen up for re-election in 2008. They are: Sens. Susan Collins, John Sununu, John Warner, and Norm Coleman; and Reps. Mary Bono, Phil English, Randy Kuhl, Jim Walsh, Heather Wilson, Jo Ann Emerson, Tim Johnson, Mike Rogers, Fred Upton, and Mike Castle in their home districts.

Re: New VoteVets Ad Hits Bush Hard on Iraq (none / 0)

Why can't the DNC, DSCC and DCCC spend some money running ads on how Bush and the Repubs don't support the troops by ensuring they get all the proper rest, training and equipment prior to deployment. And why they are hurting the troops by extending deployment times. And why the military has won the war but cannot be in the middle of a civil war and occupy another country that does not want to be occupied.

The polls will go off the charts IMO.

Pondering on your thoughts:

While the current ads support the Dem. position, and undermine the bush bs, if they were directly supported by any Dem. organization directly, the target viewers, weary republicans and indies, would be inclined to go "pffft" politics as usual.

The package being sold is that this is the voice of the troops. I vote that we keep it that way.

Having given to VoteVets starting with excellent body armor ads, I will continue to break out the plastic for this one.

One thing that we can do free of charge is to sign their petitions. It is those numbers that get big donors on board. I've made this case before and fully stand by my words. VoteVets petition for stopiranwar is still active on a site with great tools. Many of us are taking petitions to events where we can work off-line. Join us...no $$$ just signatures.
