Morris Meyer, a progressive democrat and incredibly active envriomentalist recieved the Raising Kaine endorsement today in the Virginia House of Delegates 40th District. This is big news because he is running in a hotly contested primary in a very winnable seat for Democrats.
Even more important however, is that Morris is the kind of man we really want to see running for office and helping to bring Democratic values to elected positions throughout the country.
Morris first ran for office in 2004 against Congressmen Joe Barton in Texas. As many of you likely know Barton is an incredibly powerful congressmen and one of the most ardent opponents of the enviromentalist movement. Morris chose to run in this race (in a district virtually unwinnable for Democrats) because the extreme pollution in his district was affecting the health of his daughter. Morris has also been trained in presenting Al Gore's presentation on Global Warming and has been fighting that good fight for sometime.
Previous to this race, which ultimately brought together enviromental and democratic activists to defeat some of Barton's most toxic plans for his district Morris was a strong and active Democrat. Now he is continuing this fight in Fairfax County Virginia. I encourage everyone in Northern Virginia and everyone who believes in fighting for our enviroment to reach out to Morris and his campaign and to help in any way you can!
Congratulations Morris, you are making our party proud and I am looking forward to your victories in June and November!
