Over at Jack and Jill and Field Negro, a point about the late Jerry Falwell is being made that has escaped the mainstream media. Namely, his support of segregation and his opposition to miscegenation, as well his support of South African Apartheid.
The founder of the Conservative, Pro-Republican Moral Majority actually said about Martin Luther King Jr:
"Preachers are not called to be politicians, but soul winners," he said in a sermon titled "Ministers and Marchers" in March 1964."If as much effort could be put into winning people to Jesus across the land as is being exerted in the present civil rights movement, America would be turned upside down for God."
Human Rights for all Americans is simply "politics". Segregation? that's the Lord's work.
So here's the list of Media Outlets that have ignored or omitted Falwell's international support of segregation in their obituaries:
The Washington Post
ABC News
Media Outlets that mentioned Falwell's problematic racial politics:
TIME Magazine
New York Times
Newsweek
No, seriously, that's it. I didn't find anyone else who even alluded to it. Obviously this list will be updated as I find more stuff, feel free to send tips.
Holla.
