Obama Rising in Polls After Record Small Donor $

National polls are showing Barack Obama surging, after he raised a whopping $5.7 million in small donor receipts (<$200) last quarter.

To put it in perspective, Senator Clinton and John McCain were second and third with just $2.5 and $2.27 million.

Obama also raised a higher percentatge of his money (22%) from small donations than any of the other leading candidates.

What happens when candidates build a large grassroots donor base?

They rise in the polls, as we are seeing Barack Obama doing right now...

Free Image Hosting at allyoucanupload.comRasmussen Reports that a rising Obama is now within 2% of Senator Clinton (32%-30%). John Edwards remains in third at 16%.

Rasmussen is also showing that Barack Obama, when asked if you would definitely vote for/against, has surpassed Rudy Giuliani and is now the most popular candidate nationwide in either party with 33% saying they would definitely vote for him.

With 33% also saying they would definitely vote against him, Obama has a net of zero. All other candidates are in negative territory, as Obama was just a month ago.

Fred Thompson is third, followed by John Edwards at 26% for and 37% against. 48% and growing say they would definitely vote against Hillary.

I am proud to see Senator Obama continue to grow his campaigns connection with low and middle income Americans in a way that no other candidate is doing. Senator Obama has also made good on his pledge to return lobbyists money, and is co-sponsoring legialstion to move the system to public finance, and has pledged to go to public financing for the general if his opponent agrees.  Go get 'em Senator!

for helping get the word out about Senator Obama's grassroots fundraising and his support of the public finance system both IN office as a Senator, and as a Presidential candidate.

If you can, please consider helping me meet my personal fundraising goal of 20 donations and $1000 for Senator Obama - here

Hillary's campaign is going to implode if (3.00 / 0)

numbers like 48% of the country saying they are definately going to vote aginat her in a general don't stop showing up in polls. I hate that we havbe to sort of admit that alot of the right wing attacks have worked on Hillary over the years, but she's damadged goods and it would be unbelievably stupid to risk this whole election on the hope that those people change thier minds about her, Obama should be subtle about it but every primary voter needs to be aware about how many nationwide would never vote for our "frontrunner".

Obama! because 51% isn't enough!

Re: Hillary's campaign is going to implode if (none / 0)

It definitely feels like that in the south. "Hillary" is a dirty dirty word. I dont think its fair, but shes a joke among the non 33% or so that would vote for her in a primary. Is there a similar feeling in Nevada?

With Obama continuing to rise, and still with far lower name recognition, I believe that he will pass Hillary for good this summer. He's within 2 in that Rasmussen poll, and as more people see him the more he continues to rise.

Polls After Record Small Donor $ (none / 0)

Does one poll (Rasmussen) that shows Obama within 2% (contrary to every other poll out there) indicate a "surge"?

I agree that Obama will be the front-runner soon, but is that where you really want him?  Hillary Clinton will go nuclear on him.

Re: Polls After Record Small Donor $ (none / 0)

He's surging, as the link indicates, in all national polling, not just rasmussen.

If Hillary is gonna "go nuclear," then shes gonna "go nuclear" whether Obama is still two points behind her in 8 months, or whether he is 10 ahead or whether he's 50 ahead.

I think that Hillary will be the least of Obama's worries if/when he is acknowledged as the "front-runner." That would knock out a chief pillar of Hillary's entire campaign, and I think you'd see some of her soft support gravitate elsewhere.

Re: Polls After Record Small Donor $ (3.00 / 1)

what are you saying? are you saying that obama should on purpose remain in second or third place for fear of hillary going "nuclear" on him?

i think when you run for president you ought to be attempting to win always...if you don't believe you can handle attacks from hillary you might as well not run.
