The Republicans continue to support Gonzales because he is Hispanic

The Republicans are still supporting Gonzales.  The question is "Why?"  The stench coming off this guy is absolutely nauseating.

If this was a democratic administration, he would have been gone on Friday, when his lies to Congress were revealed by his own emails.

So, why does Bush retain him?

It's Republican affirmative action time, folks.  They are retaining him because AND ONLY BECAUSE he is Hispanic.  They are deathly afraid of headlines which point out that "Highest-ranking Hispanic in Washington loses position".

This is affirmative action.  Of course, Republican policy to minorities has always been affirmative action.  Condoleesa Rice is a thorough incompetent, but has retained her position due to her skin color.  Gonzales is being revealed as not only a third-rate lawyer, but probably not competent enough to get an entry-level position at a USA office.

For Democrats, what matters is the content of the character, and the ability of the person.  For Republicans, it's skin color and political fealty to Karl Rove and his treasonous ideas.

It's time to end affirmative action in the Attorney General's office.

Re: Why the Republicans support Gonzales (3.00 / 1)

The things you claim in this diary are entirely baseless, and drag in race to situations where they are neither appropriate nor relevant. Why do you target only those White House incompetents who happen to be minority members? The Bush administration has kept in no shortage of white incompetents as well.

Your theory that the continuing support of Gonzales is based on race doesn't hold up. Among other things, the idea that Republicans would continue to support the attorney general solely to avoid offending the Hispanic community, while at the same time indifferently doing everything possible to antagonize the Hispanic community by the recent crackdowns and policy shifts on immigration... this would make zero sense even by Republican logic.

The reason why Republicans continue to support Gonzales is certainly more likely a combination of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" reasoning, and within the administration the knowledge that if Gonzales goes, virtually anyone else in the administration could be next.

Re: Why the Republicans support Gonzales (none / 0)

You offer no more evidence than did I.  So, I will stick with my baseless speculation, and you can stick with yours.

Why are you so irritated with my baseless speculation?  It's well known that the best thing that many minorities can do is become republican.  Look at Armstrong Williams. There we had an entirely incompetent writer, who made a good career for a time playing the Black Conservative.  It's a niche in the Repukeliscum Party, and one filled by any number of incompetent black politicians.  Look at Clarence Thomas.  He got into Holy Cross on an affirmative action program in which all of the admittees save Mr. Thomas admit was affirmative action.  On the Supreme Court, he is not competent.  In addition, he is entirely embittered, by the "persecution" of the "liberal media" as was obvious in a recent interview.

And besides (none / 0)

the number of White incompetents who are in as much trouble RIGHT NOW as Gonzales is small.  So, don't confuse "incompetent" with "incompetent in huge political trouble"

Actually, bush is sticking by him because AG knows where all the bodies are buried.
The other gops like congress are distancing themselves from him.  They want him gone. they hate him.
FOX supports only due to it being FOX.
