Vilsack To Endorse Clinton

The Des Moines Register reports that Sen. Hillary Clinton has picked up the endorsement of former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack.

Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack will endorse U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential run Monday, an official close to the situation said today.

Vilsack gave up his own run for the presidency in February, setting up a scramble for his supporters. He is widely considered a possible pick for vice president or a cabinet post if a Democrat wins the White House in 2008.

Clinton's campaign said it was planning a "major announcement" in Des Moines Monday morning, but wouldn't say what the announcement entails.

Vilsack is a behind the scenes person and so was Al Gore and the Clintons like those type of politicians. She can't relate to Obama, Richardson, Warner, or Edwards because all of them would want to take her job after 8 years and Vilsack would probably retire after 8 years of Clinton administration.

She can't relate to ...Richardson, Warner..??

Richardson is a big friend of the Clintons and is probably going to be on HRC's short list for the VP slot.  Look for him to endorse Clinton once he decides to bow out (unless his polls go gangbuster and he breaks into the top 3.)

I think she should pick a VP from a state that will get you the most votes to the WH, I like Bill Nelson, and would put FL in play. There are alot of snow birds migrating from NY to FL, and could get her the math she needs to win.

I live in Florida.  Bill Nelson is non-descript, no excitement at all with the guy.

Richardson is the natural VP for Clinton (if she wins):  He can deliver New Mexico (which barely was lost in 2004) and give us a chance in surrounding mountain states, he is great for the all-important Hispanic vote, has governor experience, worked for years in the Clinton White House.  He is also an interesting person, whereas Bill Nelson is the opposite of that.

Richardson, should be considered for VP choice but there are others as well, that's all I am saying. If he was so good with hispanics, Kerry would of selected him, because he lost a good chunk of the hispanic vote. Richardson is 3rd on my choice of candidates. Vilsack, Bayh, and Richardson.

Re: Vilsack To Endorse Clinton (none / 0)

He was long thought to be a "stalking horse" for Clinton, meaning he wasn't in it to win it, he was in it so he could have his machine at the caucus switch to Clinton, probably throwing her a shock win in Iowa.  He decided that spending the next 12 months pretending to be a candidate wouldn't be worth it.

I think the endorsement would have been worth a LOT more in December than in March.
