How to get the Nevada Dems to Cancel that Fox Candidate Forum

[Cross posted at Daily Kos.

Many electrons have been spilled over the decision by the Nevada Democratic party's decision to hold a candidate forum sponsored and covered by Fox News.

Well....here's how you teach them a lesson.

First, while I appreciate all the e-mails and the complaints to the Nevada Democratic party, Harry Reid and Howard Dean, that route has obviously failed and it's time to try a new approach.

Here is what I propose.

Daily Kos and MYDD, and whichever bigtime big name progressive bloggers want to get involved, should schedule THEIR OWN CANDIDATE FORUM for the exact same date and time as the Nevada Democratic party soiree.

And, given the organizing talents of the blogosphere, you could even set it up for a venue in the same city as the Nevada Dem party forum.

Then, you invite all the candidates to show up.

Give them a choice between showing up at the Fox event, and majorly pissing off the blogosphere, or showing up at our event, and screwing over Fox.

I have a sneaking suspicion that even many high level Neveda Democrats would choose us over Fox.

Just my two cents.

UPDATE: My idea will also give the Nevada Democratic Party a way to get out of any contraactual obligation they may have with Fox News. If they schedule a forum, and none of the candidates intends to show up, then there's nothing Fox can do about it.

I suppose Roger Ailes can hold an hour long forum with Hannity and Brit "I Love My Dead Gay Son" Hume trashing the Democrats and the bloggers for supposedly humilating the Nevada Democrats and Harry Reid.

But that would be short-circuited if Reid and the Nevada Party endorsed or acquiesced to our candidate forum. hell, invite the Nevada Party chairman and Majority Leader Reid to our forum as well.

MYDD UPDATE: Seems Teaser posted my idea here a few microns even before I did! My thanks to Teaser for the compliments.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Well, Markos put the kibosh on it. I don't agreee with him, but my name's not on the masthead at Daily Kos.

Maybe Jerome, Chris and the gang will take up the idea instead?

I love this idea.  Bring Air America in on the deal, too.

Butttt (none / 0)

it happened last week.

And neither we nor  they disappeared into a haze of angst, either.

So who the fuck cares?

Re: Butttt (none / 0)

Interesting.  On my planet, the debate in question is scheduled for August 2007.

Re: Butttt (none / 0)

On the Nevada debate, which took place on Feb 21?

Sources tell The Hotline that Sen. Hillary Clinton will attend the Nevada Democratic candidate forum on February 21 Carson City.

"Six other '08 Dems (Joe Biden, Bill Richardson, Mike Gravel, Tom Vilsack, Wes Clark and Chris Dodd) have already agreed to attend the AFSCME-sponsored event. No word from John Edwards and Barack Obama yet. (An Obama spokesman said they're still working out its schedule for that week)."

Last week, representatives from the Clinton, Obama and Edwards campaigns "urged the DNC to cut down on the number of debates. There are currently more than a dozen scheduled to date, and most camps have received invites to more than 20 other forums."

If there are two debates, in Nevada, this early,  sensible persons who write clearly, present company clearly exempted, might attempt to distinguish between them.

But, I guess actually putting in the DATE of the debate might be way TOO DIFFICULT, eh?

Wow? So much attitude for something (none / 0)

that has been posted multiple times here and at DailyKos.

Why not scroll over to "Unions Back Fox News" on the main page for today's story.

I don't patronize DKos.

I wish that elementary rules of composition were a part of contemporary education.  Clear exposition is sadly lacking in so much communication.

Too bad.

Markos is having an intersting discussion with advocates for the idea. He's saying we should self-organize it.

Re: Butttt (none / 0)

It's funny how it's always the other guy's fault.

This has been a hot topic here for the last week or so, and I understand that you've been out of the loop.  But once you find yourself reaching the absurd conclusion that someone is making a proposal for what we ought to do last week, you should maybe stop and consider that you're misunderstanding something.

Re: Faux News vs Yearly Kos (none / 0)

Isn't Yearly Kos about the same time as this abysmal proposal?  YKos invited all of the candidates to come to Chicago on August 4th.
