It's too early to campaign

It is WAAAAYYY TTOOOOO EARLY for a presidential campaign.

I am going to start a campaign to stop the campaign.

1) I will give no money for presidential or congressional or state-level candidates until November, 2007.

2) Any candidate who takes time away from his/her job, voting in Congress, to attend rallies will not get my support.

3) If you don't have a job, you need to do something useful until November 2007 to gain in stature. Just because you are unemployed does not allow you to start campaigning early. Running for the Presidency should be the RESULT of doing a job well, not a job in itself.

4) People are elected to represent their districts, not to run for higher office on the public dime.  GET BACK TO WORK, YOU SLUGS!

5) Too much time on the campaign will lead to more negative campaigns.

6) Requirements for the campaign will distort the legislative process. Issues that sell on a campaign are different than issues that sell during the legislative season.

If you agree with me, let's discuss how to start a campaign to stop the campaign until a more reasonable point..

STOP THE MADNESS!!! DO SOME WORK FOR A CHANGE, YOU LEGISLATIVE SLUGS!!! .

I agree that it's too early to start the campaign, but there's a problem with this: "Any candidate who takes time away from his/her job, voting in Congress, to attend rallies will not get my support."

They will all campaign. The only ones without elected jobs are Clark and Edwards. You're essentially limiting yourself to two candidates instead of eleven based on their unemployment?

OK, I'll add a point:

If you don't have a job, you need to do something useful until November 2007 to gain in stature.  Just because you are unemployed does not allow you to start campaigning early.

Great point, I'd certainly support that idea.

I'm not sure I agree--depending on your definition of campaigning.

The first votes will be cast in about 10 months.  That is when the absentee ballot process begins in many states.

To effectively campaign, you need to register and identify voters.  That is a process that takes 2-3 months.  So a campaign really wants to start that in October.

To properly register and identify voters, you need a sizable volunteer base.  A volunteer base doesn't appear suddenly at campaign headquarters.  It takes time to recruit, organize, train, nurture a volunteer base.  Its best to start a volunteer recruitment drive by June.

The leadership in a campaign who will put all this together for a community must start mapping out the strategy before you can ask volunteers to even join.  The leadership should be in place by March.

Right now, the national campaigns are working to attract and inspire the local leadership for their campaigns.  Is it too early? It is for our opponents.

October, 2007?  If you say that it takes 2-3 months to identify voters, you are saying that we need to start in June, 2008.

June, 2008? or 2007?  Why do we need to start in 2007?

I agree.  March, 2008 is plenty early.

We are going to see a huge amount of voter fatigue.  We Democrats should step back and let the Republicans destroy each other.  If we stopped campaigning, I think that would happen.
