A Noun A Verb and a 5 Year Old Speech

I understand Sen. Obama's going to be on Meet the Press this Sunday and I thought I'd help Timmeh out by writing up a few questions for the good Senator.  Obama's been on the campaign trail for about a year now, and in all that time there are more than a few questions that ought to be answered.  Sure, some have been raised and we've gotten a lot of excuses and dodges, but far too few answers have been offered up.

So here's a Letterman's Top Twenty list for Russert (ok so there are more than 10).  It'd be nice if Russert could raise a few of these, and even nicer if we could get some answers before the voting actually starts next week.

No intro here - we'll just jump in to and see what happens eh?

1 You're constantly talking about those who voted for the war resolution in 2002, but what exactly did you do to help stop the Iraq war:
Before joining the senate (besides that one speech of course)?
After joining the senate?

2 Why haven't you convened a single policy meeting of your subcommittee? Or spent more than a day anywhere in Europe since taking up the chairmanship of your subcommittee?  (From the London Times - 'Stay-at-home' Barack Obama comes under fire for a lack of foreign experience)

3 You say you've traveled extensively in Europe before being elected to the Senate? Where exactly have you been - and when? (The Iowa Independent has been trying to pin this all down HERE and HERE).

4 If Kyl / Lieberman was such a huge deal, why:
didn't you interrupt your campaigning to make it back to DC for the vote?
didn't you mention the vote during the debate on Sept..26th - even after Gravel brought it up?
did you wait 2 weeks before mentioning it on the campaign trail?

5 If elected, what exactly would you do one day one to affect this change you speak of in Washington?

6 Regarding the times when yours was the sole "present" vote in the IL Senate, you told us it was because a bill was unconstitutional.  Why didn't you just vote no on those bills?

7 Why haven't you disavowed the hateful and homophobic message of McLurkin?

8 Why haven't you disavowed David Axelrod's claim that Hillary's vote led to Bhutto's assassination. And more to the point - why did you defend it on CNN Friday?

9 Can you explain how you can now say you want to give the Pakistanis a chance to investigate Bhutto's murder, when just months ago you said you'd bomb the country if they failed to cooperate in tracking down bin Laden?

10 Give us a few examples of this moral courage you speak of.  Tells about the tough fights that you've fought when no one else was in the battle?

11 Why does Tom Daschle - a lobbyist - have a prominent role in your campaign, and would you let him have influence if you are elected? ( http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/ statements/32/ )

12 If you get the Democratic nomination, how do you plan to deal with the "swiftboat" attacks from the republicans and their surrogates used in past elections?

13 You speak of moral courage but yet you stop short of covering everyone in your healthcare plan by leaving some 15 million Americans without healthcare coverage.  Why stop short of universal healthcare when the other candidates are pushing for everyone's inclusion?

14 If you're against mandates, why do you mandate that children be covered in your plan?

15 Why did you attack Paul Krugman with opposition research and right wing talking points?

16 Speaking of right wing talking points... Social Security crisis????

17 Why do you consider Robert Novak a credible news source?  (Remember that rumor he started about Hillary having dirt on him?).

18 Why didn't you stand up for YearlyKos the way Hillary did?

19 Why did you skip the MoveOn vote????

I know Timmeh will never ask this one  and this is really more tongue in cheek as there's only one source on this, but I'd sure like to get an answer on something I saw on line today.  I mention this more to point out how (if this really happened) they didn't learn much from what Hillary's camp went through in Iowa!

20 After the way you went after Hillary over the whole Maid Rite tip fiasco, would you care to explain why you and your staff only left a 5% tip for dinner and totally stiffed the bartender when they went to The Commercial Street Fishery in Manchester NH.( http://greenmountainpolitics1.blogspot.c om/2007/12/hey-big-spender.html )

Right then... that's 20 questions.  If we could get good solid answers to even half of them it'd be a great start.

He's Asking Us For Our Votes (2.00 / 5)

He needs to give us a few solid answers first.

I guess we'll see if Timmeh cops on and asks the tough questions tomorrow eh?

Yep, Obama's asking for our votes... (2.00 / 3)

But he still won't answer the tough questions. Why no action on Iraq? Why no work on his own European Affairs subcommittee? Why allow Donnie McClurkin to preach hate from the campaign stage? Why campaign on "hope" and "change" while surrounding himself with the same old Chicago Machine folks (everyone from David Axelrod strategizing to Tony Rezko giving the big bucks)? If he can't answer our questions, why give him the nomination?

No way, no how, no McCain! :-)

Too bad Tim will probably stick (2.00 / 5)

to the mock social security crisis, since he's sympatico with his guy Obama on that one.

Re: Too bad Tim will probably stick (2.00 / 1)

Yeah, haha.  Russert's question will probably be more like "Why do you think you're the only candidate with the courage to tell the truth about the looming disaster that is Social Security?"

Re: A Noun A Verb and a 5 Year Old Speech (2.00 / 3)

Will Russert ask Obama about financial and political relationship to indicted lobbyist and known kickback artist Antoin Rezko?

What's great about MyDD (2.00 / 2)

is that if you were to publish that picture on daily kos, the Obama people would troll rate you into the ice age.

Hillary runs to George (none / 0)

The funny thing is that Hillary is so confident that 1) she's apparently imposed a gag order and will not take questions from Iowan voters and 2) rather than face actual questions, she scampers off to George Stephanopolous. Political cowardice should never be rewarded.

Re: Hillary runs to George (2.00 / 2)

I wish you idiots would stop lying about Hillary.  Demonizing her by pulling things out of your ass.  If you're going to hate her, at least hate her based on some truths.

"After a Desert Storm veteran asked Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton what she'd do about the war-related health issues that have been swept under the carpet, she made a campaign promise - twice.

I promise you that among my priorities will be trying to get to the bottom of this, Clinton said during a question-and-answer session at her campaign rally in the town of Clinton today.

Bumbling Obama, on the other hand, is so high and mighty, he won't allow himself to be photographed with people.

Re: Hillary runs to George (2.00 / 2)

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/ 12/29/on-the-road-an-iowa-political-vaca tion/

Mr. Clinton asked if he could take a picture with my wife and her friends. When Mr. Obama came in, they got a chance to shake his hand.

But after his speech, Mr. Obama declined to take a picture with them, saying he did not do individual photos because there were too many cameras at events to pose for everyone.
"You can take a picture of me while I'm standing here," he told them, according to my wife.

They tried to snap a few off, but they did not come out very well. They ended up walking away for the first time in their trip without a photo with the candidate. As it would turn out, Mr. Obama was the lone candidate who refused to pose for a picture with them.

They agreed afterward that Mr. Obama had delivered a great speech and knew how to command a crowd better than Mrs. Clinton, but he was the least approachable of all the candidates they had met.

Looks like he doesn't mind (2.00 / 1)

having his picture taking with big-money Rezko, though.

If your program (2.00 / 1)

is about the audacity (audacity?!) of hope, why is your proposed program so damnably milquetoast?

Re: A Noun A Verb and a 5 Year Old Speech (2.00 / 1)

Why did you wait for 16 months to make that anti-Iraq War speech, Sen. Obama? And, why did you then have to alter the minutes of it that were submitted to the Congressional record, Sen. Obama?

Why are you doing push-polling and robo-calls now in Iowa, using fake Doctors, telling Iowa caucus goers lies about Sen. Clinton's health-care proposals, if you are the candidate who says he is about "change" in Washington DC? Do you have the "audacity" to hope voters in Iowa will believe your lies about Sen. Clinton's health care proposal?

You said if there were intelligence about Osama Bin Laden's whereabouts, you would invade Pakistan pre-emptively using US troops--which set off riots and flag-burning in Pakistan against you and the US. But, you then rejected Sen. Clinton's proposal for an independent international investigation of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, saying that it was a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty.

Isn't a unilateral, pre-emptive invasion of Pakistan with US troops a 'violation' of Pakistan's sovereignty? And, isn't that what you SAID you were against in Iraq? So, why is it alright to invade Pakistan but not Iraq?

On Dec. 12--before Bhuttos assassination--you said that you thought IRAN was the country you were most worried about, not Pakistan. You also told the Chicago Tribune that you would keep open the option of attacking Iran using missiles. Are you saying now that you would consider attacking Iran?

Timmie's going to give Obama easy questions, while fawning all over him. Timmie is a joke. But if HRC were on his show, he would show no mercy at all. I hate this guy.

Obama shined on Meet The Press (none / 0)

Presidential in fact. Meanwhile, Hillary was on Georgie's show where she had to face hard hitting questions such as "Will Bill have an office in the West Wing?"

PATHETIC.
